Claire Murray is starting over in Eagle Rock Montana. It’s her friend Delaney’s wedding to Ethan Walker of the Bodyguard Protector’s agency. Jacob Lawson, Delaney’s brother, is also attending the wedding. Claire noticed that the handsome Jacob is favouring one shoulder, then she remembers seeing his name on her list of clients for physical therapy. Jacob is on medical leave from the SEALs for a few weeks, he could do with a nice hookup – as he couldn’t help notice the sparks he and Claire obviously shared – but unexpected events soon relegate that idea on the backburner as there is no time for a relationship, but Claire needs protecting. Being a client is an ideal cover for guarding Claire, as no one will ever notice, but the close proximity proves to be dangerous in a deliciously wicked way.
FALLING FOR HER TEMPORARY BODYGUARD is Christine Glover’s second attempt at romantic suspense, and she does a splendid job. I loved how smoothly Claire and Jacob were brought together; it felt very matter-of-fact. Jacob is a lovely hero; he’s a naturally caring man; he wasn’t overbearing or stifling in his duties or in handling his attraction to Claire; he didn’t push himself on her, which was most welcome from this reader. The dialogues felt realistic, and I loved Claire’s sense of humour. The physical therapy clinic felt like a real place, and I got a feel of Claire’s profession.
I very much appreciated that both Claire and Jacob accepted the relationship for what it was; there were not expectations beyond the now, they went along with what was happening, and took it from there. The romance was truly lovely, progressed in a timely fashion, and there were no undue silliness, misunderstandings, or endless push-and-pull. While FALLING FOR HER BODYGUARD focuses mainly on the romance, the suspense is a solid one with plenty of twists and turns, realistically creepy villains, and a nailbiter of an ending.
