“Sometimes the Good Lord places folks in our lives who become far more than mere friends.”

Penny Zeller takes us back in time to Prune Creek, Wyoming, in 1895. Charlotte Eliason has had her heart broken, and has traveled to live with her two perpetually bickering aunts.

Charlotte is shocked to discover that the young smithy her aunts want to set her up with is none other than Tobias Hallman, her childhood nemesis.

This old West romance is perfect for those who like the enemies-to-friends-to-more trope. Expect the meddling aunts to provide tons of humor. You’ve just got to love Myrtle and Fern! And little Lanie will both become endearing and break your heart! One of the best things about this book, is that it really can be read as a stand-alone, even though it’s part of a series. (But honestly, the books are too good to miss any.)

I think I would truly have enjoyed living in this town and having a front row seat to the romance and hilarity. I might forego an invitation to supper, though!

One thing Tobias doesn’t understand is how Charlotte can re-read a book four or more times, and he can’t resist needling her. “I do know, however, that if I read a book once I can be assured it will end the same way should I read it a second time. Now on the fourth time, the ending might change.”

One of my fave lines shows Charlotte’s maturity and trust in God. “God wasn’t caught unaware. He knows this is happening and the repercussions…We need to begin collecting prayers.” Sounds simple, but life is being turned topsy-turvy as she proclaims her faith, and encourages another to stand on her faith plateau.

I highly recommend When Love Comes. I received a copy from the author, and from Celebrate Lit, and I bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

    Notable Quotables:
“I don’t regret the life God chose for me. What I do regret is the bitterness.”

“Don’t be like I’ve been. Forgive, move on, and await with anticipation the life God has planned for you.”

When Love Comes by Penny Zeller is the third full length novel in her Wyoming Sunrise series. This story focuses on Charlotte Eliason and Tobias Hallman who we first meet as children in Forgotten Memories, the first book of the series. As children they got on each others’ nerves something fierce, and they both would have rather not had anything to do with the other now that they are adults and out on their own. Unfortunately God seems to have different plans for their lives.

Charlotte has traveled to Prune Creek to be with her great aunts as she had just had her heart broken. Tobias has been living there, working as the blacksmith. They were shocked and not at all happy when they found themselves in close proximity. After all this years, may they be able to actually develop a relationship that isn’t based on annoying one another? Will tragedy bring them together?

I also love that in the background of Charlotte and Tobias’s story, we see possible relationships developing for the aunts who had decided love was not going to be in their futures. And there is danger in the form of outlaws, because this is the wild west of course. And mixed in with all this is figuring out how to care for his niece, with some unexpected twists, that quite frustrated me and kept me turning the pages so I could find out what was going to happen. Above all, we see the characters putting their trust in the Lord. I do love the way the author weaves faith into her stories.

The story puts Charlotte in the path of a childhood foe, Tobias Hallman. Charlotte isn't happy to find him living in the same town, but God has his plan for her life. Lanie, orphaned by the death of her parents, won my heart and is my favorite character.

The main characters were very relateable, the storyline was filled with instances of God's love and grace. Lots of humorous banter from Charlotte's aunts, surprising circumstances you won't see coming, and lots of faith and hope.

One of Penny's best. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary ARC from the author and willingly chose to review it. All opinions are my own.

Although I knew that Tobias and Charlotte would eventually fall in love, I was surprised and heartbroken over Lanie’s story! Penny Zeller beautifully captured the emotions felt by the characters in this story and the way she literally tied up the healing of Lanie with the is precious!! 10/10 Recommended.

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and Penny Zeller hits another home run with When Love Comes. I love how she builds on the families that we’ve all grown to love. It with each book we get to see another character in a greater depth.

Penny adds in faith, adoption, family (new and old), and some twists and turns to captivate her audience. I’ve loved this series, and the journey of Charlotte & Tobias didn’t disappoint.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. But all opinions are my own and my truthful review.

Another wonderful book by Penny Zeller

This time we have Charlotte and Tobias's story. Back in book one I asked if these two would become more than rivals as from book one you could see they had to have their own story. Right from the time they were in school Tobias was her brothers best friend and they use to tease and annoy her.

Charlotte has gone to Prune Creek to live with Aunt Fern and Aunt Myrtle to get over a bad breakup. It is there she finds Tobias her nemesis living there. I loved seeing Aunt Fern and Aunt Myrtle again and the famous Huckleberry pie. Aunt Myrtles cooking hasn't improved. There is also some romantic interest for the Aunts although Aunt Fern isn't looking for it.

Part way through the book something happens which puts Charlotte and Tobias in the same place and having to pull together. It's around this time their feelings are changing. I can't go into details but it is major to the story.

This book had me laughing and at one point crying, something that I don't do a lot in books. I loved the whole story and how it wove together. I have loved all the books in this series and each book is special in its own way. I hope this isn't the last we see of this family. I wish I could talk more about this book that I don't give spoilers.

It would help if you have read the other books in this series but you could read this as a stand alone. Great read.
