The disasters mainly encompass the greater Los Angeles area, so even though other areas of the country, as well as other countries, have problems, some help is out there. The main character, Lenny, is pretty much a super hero, not something I like in stories, but it works here because even though he accomplishes all these noble and kind deeds with exceptional strength and the best of intentions, he still messes up and his actions don't always come out the way he intends. There's intrigue, action, love, kindness, loyalty and disloyalty, sadness and hope - this series has it all. It's Christian based, with some Christian characters that sometimes fail at living as Christ would want, but find their way through and back. I highly recommend it for anyone liking adventure stories.

Ian takes his time building strong characters and it’s well worth it! This is not just the beginning of an apocalyptic story (which can stand on its own), but a deep look into humanity in all its glory and tattered dirty secrets. This story builds like the hurricane, wrecking havoc and bringing redemption. Moral undertones that aren’t preachy with “closed door” adult themes (thank you!) that only add to the story without detracting from it. Once the characters and setting are built, the story starts picking up along with the winds and is a fast read. I look forward to book 2.

This book was so good! I was looking for a Christian Fiction/Science Fiction book and The Vortex did not disappoint. I think what I loved most is the fact that the characters truly came to life and caused me to have feelings about their character and their actions. One other thing I really loved is the fact that while I was looking for a Christian Science Fiction book, I was not looking for a book that is so holier-than-thou that you can't enjoy the story. This book was a perfect find. The book is very real about who each of the characters are and the lives they live. Then there's Lenny. A man who loves God in spite of his life circumstances. I read through this book so quickly, but then wasn't ready for it to end. I am really looking forward to book 2!

A devastating hurricane is heading directly for Los Angeles from the central Pacific, presaged by days and weeks of constant rain. The characters in this story range from the homeless to CEOs to television personalities; each character is well-developed and realistic. Early on, it’s difficult to keep track of them—it’s a large cast—but as we get to know them and as they cross paths, we care more and more what will happen to each one. Feldman does a great job of pulling the diverse characters together, interweaving their individual stories into a coherent whole. And we care enough to keep reading to find out what will happen and who will survive. Very well written and an excellent story.

This book was advertised as Christian fiction, but it is not. Lots of foul words, a text that becomes long and drawn out all too soon, and an author who really needs to find another line of work. He is not a writer, and certainly not of Christian fiction. Don't waste your time and money on this book.

I really love how the author weaved the stories together. It was a fun story that kept me guessing throughout the book.

I look forward to the next book.

I am not big on Christian based books but this one changed my mind. It was a well written book considering it was a first one. It also gave me hope that there are still good people in this world, although they are few & far between but they are there. The character of Lenny is what we need in this world right now, that you can care for people no matter what their status in life is & the bad ones get their just desserts. Plus read on, it also gave a glimpse on how to solve some social problems we are facing. Hurray for a book that gave positive vibes that we definitely need right now.
