Wonder of Light Kindle Edition

Sarah Warner and Evan Simes couldn’t have had lives that were more different from one other.

While she enjoys all the comforts of a loving home, lots of friends and a close relationship with God, he spends his time evading drunken assaults at the hands of his stepfather and lives an aimless and purposeless life.

Where Sarah is kind-hearted, caring and sees the good in everything, Evan is hardened by dark secrets, the realities of his own life and carries an enormous chip on his shoulder.

So why is she so attracted to a young man who seems to have nothing going for him on the face of it? And why on Earth is he so reluctant to have anything to do with the shining light of Belton High?

Sarah will soon find out. As she slowly gains Evan’s trust and a connection is forged between them it seems like there is an equally good heart lurking in this bad boy’s chest.

But when she is stricken with cancer and is faced with the unwanted attentions of the deranged and sadistic Tyler, will she be able to rely on Evan’s help to guide her through?

I was inspired by true events to write this book, however the story line and characters are fictional. It is a young adult romance, set in high school. It is a high school bully/enemies-to-lovers style romance. There are depictions of violence, nothing too graphic, and profanity has been censored due to the spiritual nature of the book.

Please, please, please, leave a review of what you think of my story. Honest feedback is absolutely welcome! It is my very first published piece, so there are a few grammatical errors that, although are slightly annoying, do not take away from the overall read. Thus, I ask that you please try not to judge me too harshly in reference to grammar.

Wonder of Light

Sarah Warner and Evan Simes couldn’t have had lives that were more different from one other.

While she enjoys all the comforts of a loving home, lots of friends and a close relationship with God, he spends his time evading drunken attacks at the hands of his stepfather and lives an aimless and purposeless life.

Where Sarah is kind-hearted, caring and sees the good in everything, Evan is hardened by dark secrets, the realities of his own life and carries an enormous chip on his shoulder.

After a night locked together in the school library, these two realize they have more in common then they thought and form a bond.

As Sarah and Evan face challenge after challenge, only God and their loving bond can guide these two hearts through overcoming these obstacles.

Books, Love, Romance, Faith, Enemies-to-Lovers

Keeps Readers Interested

The book is fast-paced and engaging. It's just the right amount of pages that you get a full and satisfying story without any extra unnecessary filler nor feeling short-changed on the story line. Although this book is part of a series, it can absolutely be read as standalone.

Enemies-to-Lovers, Revenge, Love, Faith, Forgiveness

Relatable Characters

The characters can definitely be attributed to high school students in today's society. For instance, Evan and Tyler project the bullied students who look to seek retaliation on their enemies. The jocks represent the bullying upperclassmen with no empathy. Sarah embosses the good girl that stands up for the mistreated and expels unrelenting forgiveness.

Faith, Forgiveness, Love, Miracles

Faith-Based Romance

Wonder of Light is a faith-based high school romance between a believer and a non-believer. The story does depict harsh situations involving physical attack/bullying and contains censored profanity from the darker non-believing characters that can be a trigger for some readers. However, the overall message involves unrelenting love, faith, and forgiveness.

I'm an independently published author of Christian Romances with a Twist. They are gritty fictional romance stories containing sinful characters who make or have made poor choices. These characters do use profanity and inflict violence. There are fairly mild depictions of abuse, assault (non-sexual), threats, revenge plotting, illness, gun violence, knife violence and death. Despite each books use of flawed characters, violence and profanity, each gritty representation showcases the immorality of those sinful actions and displays an overall message of redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ.

Each of my books is part of a series of interconnected standalone novels/novellas.

I am a proud child of God, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. I was born and raised in the Midwest but moved to the East Coast when I was 18 where I've been ever since. I have adored writing stories since I was 10 years old, but only decided to publish my first book when I came up with the idea for “Wonder of Light.”

This book pulls my heart-strings. Evan and Sarah as the main characters have their own, separate, distinct, challenging and inspiring stories to tell.

The story is written in narratives with so much heart. The scenes and events flow dynamically on each page until an emotional and engaging confrontation ensues in the middle part and a heartwarming conclusion transpires in the end.

All through-out the book, it is showered with faith, kindness, love and compassion while the challenges of incurable disease and human wickedness are dispelled by it.

This is a moving, beautiful book!

Told in the first person of the two main characters, Sarah and Evan, "Wonder of Light" explores the emotional rollercoaster that teens go through in high school. Sarah is a good student, with a strong faith, whose hardships are hidden from those who don't know her. Evan has a hard home life and is an outcast at school. When they are finally forced to spend some time together, both discover that they might have more in common than they first thought.

I found it difficult to get into the book at first. I think the first person perspective might have been part of it for me, but the first part of the story seemed to drag for me. However, once things start happening, the story pulls you in and you want to keep reading to see what happens next. The twists of the plot led to a story I wasn't expecting but in a good way. The resolution at the end seems to quick for me and unrealistic---even for a miracle. I don't want to say more and spoil anything. However, the story itself is so engaging that it was easy for me to overlook that.

This is a compelling, gritty story that has a HEA in the end.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how strongly this story gripped me from the very start and held on to me until I finished the book!

I can't help but wonder how much it would make a difference in this world if everyone would show a little kindness to each other and bullying and abuse was a thing of the past. Would making this book mandatory reading in school enlighten anyone? I wish I knew the answer.

This story was very well written and brought me to tears which is quite hard to do in my case. I read a LOT and I can't remember the last time a book touched me so profoundly as to make me cry.

I wish everyone had faith as strong as Sarah. What a beautiful place the world would be!

I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author! Well done!

I don't usually purchase books unless they're offered free on Amazon/Kindle, but I felt compelled to buy this AND I'm glad I did because it was worth the read.

Simply brilliant. The concept is so unique, controversial, heavy, and enthralling at the same time. I haven't cried so hard over a book in a while. It's like John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars" but BETTER. I could totally see a movie adaptation for this book. Mark my words!

This book has some interesting moments and the premise might have worked. Good vs evil being played out in a high school. However, in the end, it felt like the author glossed over too many details and pushed too hard for a happy ending.

Throughout the story, the character of Sarah is continually built to the peak moment of her dealing with a life-threatening challenge and her struggle with keeping her faith. And the deep message within the written lines is how such a character can positively shape others in the world, exemplified by the way it shaped the faith and state of mind of Evan. In the end, everybody wins.

From the very beginning, where the contrasting life of the two main characters, Evan and Sarah, are present I could sense the dynamic and moving story I am about to read. Though the book involved faith and spirituality aspects, the read is flowing smoothly allowing me to enjoy the characters’ building and the dialogues, and the heartfelt plot involving child abuse and illness of the plot's main characters. Such elegant writing is amplified by alternating Evan and Sarah's points of view angle and the engaging text they reveal their honest thoughts to us.

Something I know for a fact through experience. An inspirational romance I would recommend to a young person. Now I do have a problem with censoring thimgs.

The appeal of this book is a realistic look at a teen Christian. This is for YA and all ages. The author depicted the characters with true teen issues. She also had the main protagonist school Christians on how to attract not preach.

I will be reading the other two books available. Thank you, Jessica.

A very beautifully written story about insecurities, bullying and everything that can go wrong with teenagers.
I liked the different point of view from the two main protagonists. It helped with the development of the characters.
I loved how Evan although wanted to "destroy" the rich kids, he ended up falling in love with one.
Sarah's personality is so genuinely kind and forgiving.
This story just gives a twist to what the reality is nowadays in high schools and how the kids act and react to everything - lack of empathy you see!

    Really beautiful story!

5.0 out of 5 stars A tender and dreamy story with heart. We need more stories like this.
Reviewed in Japan on January 22, 2025
Wonder of Light by Jessica Scachetti is a heartwarming and well-timed contemporary Christian romance
with depictions of abuse, non-sexual assault, threats, illness, gun violence and misplaced grudges. And at the end, a message of redemption.

That the setting is in high school, is perfect for this young adult romance.

It depicts two young protagonists, Evan and Sarah, who the author developed very well. Both come from diverse upbringings and as can be expected, exhibit traits of that upbringing. Each character gets their own points of view described beautifully.

I encountered grammar eyesores. I chose to ignore them due to the amount of kindness, hope, and empathy (and a little dreamy feel—something the world needs now): values I look for in a story. Those values outweighed the typos.

Wonder of Light is a fast read that will appeal to all, especially youngsters, for its character development that will prove common to many.

I give this lovely book a 5-star rating and recommend it wholeheartedly.
