Crimson Hunt: Behind the Red Book One Kindle Edition
Kerry Graham surprises his father by coming out as a gay cross-dresser and non-binary. Then again, when he performs in drag at a local cabaret named The Red, where his cousin works as a tailor. Despite being treated as an outcast, he now feels liberated and accepted in a world where he can truly be himself. He's among people that understand him, and he can finally relax. At least, that's what he believes. Then, a dress arrives, seemingly an apology for a bit of bigotry from a shop clerk. No one thinks a dress will cause any harm, so he wears it under the stage lights. Things go awry, though, and Kerry wonders what could possibly be happening. A bounty hunter named Martin swoops in, convinced that he can be of aid in the situation. Along with Martin, there's an intrepid FBI agent named Zak on the trail of a pair of sadistic serial killers who target and manipulate young, attractive, feminine men like Kerry.
Kerry doesn't believe it at first. Could these people be targeting him? Then, things happen, and his phone and email fill with messages of horrible images of what these people plan to do to him. He's frightened but staunch about living his life. He is adamant that he won't let them win, no matter what they do to him. Still, as the manipulation and gaslighting continue from afar, he starts to doubt everything he's ever known. He loses his purchase on reality but finds that Martin and Zak ground him. He refuses to give in to their sadistic games, but in the end, he wonders if his willpower is enough to keep these people away from him.

She/Her or They/Them
Beverly L. Anderson started writing at eleven, and when they did, it was apparent they would stick to something other than the every day. Her first story, written in spiral notebooks, was about a kidnapping. There were endless story ideas featuring fantastic places, monstrous creatures, and forbidden love in her mind even then. There’s no surprise that these days, they favor the dark corners of the psyche over the happy and fluffy parts. Enamored with the mind, she studied extensively in psychology and related fields. She spends most of her days dreaming about stories and deciding how to make the unruly characters do as they tell them. As everyone knows, sometimes the characters take off and do what they want, no matter what the author has planned.
Beverly’s other hobbies include gaming of all types, including a great love of tabletop, transgender and autism advocacy, and writing fanfiction when she can. Their interest in the BDSM community began as a simple curiosity but has led her to the road to finding a place for herself there as a Domme. She has gone on the journey of self-discovery in the last few years, finally pinning down their identity after nearly thirty years of searching. Coming out as bigender, asexual, panromantic, and polyamorous was one of the hardest things they’ve ever done, but it gave them the confidence to become themselves even more. An autistic person and an eclectic pagan, Beverly finds themself at odds with a lot of what society calls “normal.” They don't mind, though, because they find that they are uniquely queer in every aspect of her life, and she's just fine with that.
Beverly started their writing journey seriously in 2013 when she found their way to fanfiction. She spent several years writing over three million words in various fandoms. In the last few years, they have been drawn to making those stories into original pieces and publishing them for a wider audience. Finding her publishing home helped make that dream a reality, one that they try to help others find.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024This book starts off quite slowly, making it challenging to dive into at first. However, I found the characters to be incredibly enjoyable and distinctly unique from one another. As the story progressed, my appreciation for it grew stronger. The cliffhanger at the end leaves you eager to pick up the sequel. The FBI is investigating the attack on Kerry, related to his job, yet Kerry refuses to let fear dictate his life. Additionally, he is engaged in a polyamorous relationship with Zak and Martin. I highly recommend giving this book a read!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2025I can't begin to tell you how much I dislike this book. There are too many characters introduced throughout. You can't keep up. New character after new character, and try to keep up with their individual stories. The plot idea of crazed serial killers is interesting but that is not the focus of the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2024Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. Kerry finally let his feelings know, which led to a great job, and close friends. His family supported him. He had everything moving in the right direction. But, mysterious hunters were on the prowl for their next victim. Finding friends, discovering himself and helping a bounty hunter, make for an enjoyable life, until he is targeted. Things get dark, plots get planned but no one can stop the outcome. Riveting til the end, the suspense will keep your attention. The end is quite the cliffhanger making you want more.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2024Crimson Hunt is the first book in the Behind the Red duology and does end in a cliffhanger. The only reason this is a four star and not a five is that I had a hard time really getting into the book in the beginning, but man by the end I didn't want it to finish. This is a dark read and I do recommend checking the TW. I'm so excited to read the next book, it can't come fast enough.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2024Cliffhangers shall be the death of me. Anywho, this was a great story and great character development. Slow burn, a little long winded in some parts of the story but it did NOT kill the vibe for me. Dark psychological thriller with a touch of romance. Love the LGBTQIA+ representation. This hit home in some areas that the MMC endured. Trust me, you will be destroyed with this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2024I'm rounding this up from 3.5. I wasn't sure how I was feeling about this through the first half of the story. By the end though, I was very much into the story. The cliffhanger has me looking forward to the next book.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
