Legend of Captain Fear: The Pollywog Adventures Kindle Edition
As Polly Peterson (most people affectionately call her Pollywog) settled into her vacation stay with her uncle and aunt in the quaint seaside town of Cape Doom she cannot help but sense a mystery hanging in the salty air. The small seaside town had a secrecy that intrigued Pollywog and her friends, Joey and Henry, from the moment they arrived. Upon their arrival, they quickly make friends with a local boy, Hudson Bell, and his constant companion, a sturdy English Bulldog, named Molly.
It doesn’t take long for the trio of friends to find themselves entangled in a baffling mystery surrounding the legend of Captain Fear, a notorious pirate who sailed the seas with his trusted crew and struck fear in the hearts of people with the mere mention of his name. The residents of Cape Doom swear that Captain Fear still exists and when the eerie fog rolls in, so does his phantom ship.
Pollywog, never one to shy away from a good mystery, vows to uncover the truth about this legend. Is it an elaborate hoax, figment of the townspeople imaginations, or could Captain Fear actually still exist? Undaunted by the eerie tales and unsettling encounters, Pollywog and her friends embark on a mission to unravel this mystery. Pollywog also suspects their new friend, Hudson Bell, knows more than he is telling them and she sets out to discover what that is.
But could discovering the truth be more dangerous than she thinks. . . .
Follow the adventures of three friends who love sleuthing more than anything else. Recommended for ages 6-12

- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2023"Legend of Captain Fear: The Pollywog Adventures" is an adventure story that takes you to a seaside town called Cape Doom. There, Pollywog, Joey, Henry, and their new buddy Hudson dive into a mysterious adventure about Captain Fear, a pirate legend.
What's awesome about this book is how it's all about friendship and adventure. The story moves quickly, so you won't get bored. Plus, the characters are relatable, and Pollywog, the main character, doesn't hog all the attention.
This is actually the second book in The Pollywog Adventure Series, but you don't need to read the first one to enjoy it. The characters in this story show what real friendship and sticking together means. Children readers will enjoy this book.
So, if you or your children are fans of exciting mysteries, this book is totally worth checking out. I'm definitely going to read the other one in the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2024It’s good to see authors writing fun, intriguing, adventure stories without adding in violence or bad language. This book is perfect for middle school kids. The mystery surrounding the Legend of Captain Fear makes for a suspenseful and engaging read for young readers, especially those who love a good detective story. I liked the fact that the main character is a young girl who works together with her friends to get to the truth. Go girl power!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2023I read this myself ahead of time before starting it with my 6-year-old, and it passed the test of being an adventure that flows easily with discoveries she can understand (with a little explaining from me re: some boat terminology) without being too scary or confusing. It was a great book to read to her when she was home sick and it doesn't take long. She loved the pirate-speak and the kids being allowed to go off sleuthing on their own, and though it does have a few things like scarlet fever that gave her pause, nothing is graphic or so scary that she didn't want to keep going. I remember learning about polio when I was little and probably feeling the same way. The journal entries were a bit long for her, so I summarized them, but she loved when they found the map (I have never met a kid who doesn't think maps are the best) and the discovery that Uncle Ben had secret adventures of his own. There are either a couple of missing chapters which looks like a formatting issue, but she didn't notice (since I was reading it to her) and the story flows without them anyway. This is the second book in a series, but the adventures are separate and you don't need to have read the first one to get this one, kind of like Nancy Drew books.
