A Lumberjack for Lorena: Mail-Order Papa Kindle Edition
1892 Pembina, North Dakota, USA
Living off the land in the remote backwoods, Lorena Lombardi has a shadow hovering over her home and land—the railroad—threatening to blaze a trail through her peaceful life. But she’s not alone. If a man can send for a bride, why can’t she send for a husband?
Lumberjack, Cole Wheeler, fell into step with Lorena’s letters from the start. The only problem is he’s not actually the lumberjack he said he was. He’s from the city after all. I love the woods; how hard can it be?
Will Lorena send him packing when she finds out his truths, will Cole ride the rails right out of town, or will the whole family be steamrolled off their land?
A sweet and clean stand-alone novella in the historical Mail-order Papa Series.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2024The Mail-Order Papa series will consist of clean, Christian-based, historical books. Rather than a mail-order bride, what about a mail-order groom? Sometimes, even a woman has to take a chance to find happiness. What is a woman to do when men from the railroad come calling, making threats, and determined to take away her land? She finds a man who is big, and burly, and helps take on the fight.
Widow Lorena Lombardi lives outside of the small town of Pembina, North Dakota, in a heavily wooded area. She is raising a little girl, Fia, and a strange-looking pet raccoon, Monster, along with her three fainting goats.
“Young woman, twenty-four, with own land, North Dakota. Seeks husband with practical skills to make a home in the forest. Serious applicants only.”
Former Secret Service Agent, Cole Wheeler, needs a new life, away from the city. Finding an ad for a woman in the West seeking a husband, he applies. Maybe he doesn’t tell the complete truth—or even close to it. What a surprise when she picks him.
The story was a fun page-turner and both Lorena and Cole omit so many truths to each other. But those truths will come to life. Lorena doesn’t mention she had been married and was widowed, or that she is raising a little girl that isn’t her own. Cole has never been a lumberjack, but leads her to believe he is at home in the woods, and capable of building. What will happen to them when the truth is revealed? What will happen when the hired men come to try and threaten and scare Lorena from her home?
The truth isn’t always pretty, and knowing that they both are guilty of lies by omission isn’t a great way to start. But Cole is taken with Lorena and Fia. When he learns of the threats and dangers presented by the railroad, he is determined to protect his girls. In the end, the three make a strong family and work together. When push comes to shove, they learn that friends in town and, some in high places, make the difference. Best of all, the story does have the coveted happily ever after ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2024This is a cute short tale of a young woman that live in the deep woods by herself. Cole is a retired Secret Service man and accepts Lorena’s advertisement for a husband. He is a city born and breed man but he wants to live in the great north west in the trees. Upon his arrival he discovers she sort of lives with a forest child and her pet Monster. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2024Can you imagine a retired federal agent, a wilderness woman, and a forest fairy forming a family? Add to that three fainting goats and a hairless racoon? And hired railroad works trying to intimidate her to sell her land, or else ...
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2023Lorena has a hard life surviving in the woods with the little foundling girl who came out of the woods to stay. It became even harder when the railroad decided to build across her land and she wouldn't sell. Her advertisement for a mail-order husband brings the type of man she needs to work beside her.
Cole Wheeler isn’t the lumberjack he purported himself to be when he answered Lorena’s letters. In fact, he knows nothing about forest life seeing as he has spent his whole life in the city but when he sees Lorena something in his soul knows this is where he wants to be.
I enjoyed this clean, mail-order romance. Lorena and Cole make a good couple and the different animals add humor and depth. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024I enjoyed the book! Lorena lived in a forest and the railroad was trying to force her to sell her land. She advertised for a mail order husband. Cole responded and came west to marry her. There was drama in the story. The most interesting characters were Fia, Fia’s pet, and the goats! They were secondary characters but made the story more interesting. I recommend reading this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024Are not a good thing to be keeping, when your entire future is depending on being with a life partner you want to depend on. But, totally understandable in both Lorena and Cole's cases. And they work it out, which should not be too much of a spoiler!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2024I’m a sucker for a HEA, doesn’t matter the era. This story was fun and exactly what you’d expect from this author.
