Whiskey Tribute (Trident Security Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 747 ratings

A promise between best-friends…

Curt never thought he’d be forced to keep a pledge to watch over Eric’s family, but an assassin made that vow a harsh reality.

Eighteen months later, he’s still keeping an eye on them, but somewhere along the line, his feelings for the pretty widow have shifted.

Dana had been both a mother and a father to her children during her husband’s multiple deployments, but once he retired, she’d thought those days were over… she was wrong.

While his SEAL teammates have been there for her, one of them stands above all the rest— the man who is slowly invading her dreams.

They started as friends, but now, both want more. Can they move past the feeling that they’re betraying a dead man by wanting each other? Or is Eric always going to stand between them?

Curt and Dana’s novella was a quick read. As I read each story, I find myself becoming more and more entranced with all the members I meet. Samantha Cole has the right touch when it comes to knowing whether a full book or novella is right for her characters. Curt’s best friend was married to Dana, but was killed. He promised to always be here for them and finds himself falling for his best friend’s girl. This short story is wonderful in the way it showed how close they were, how they both still loved and honored Eric, and how they were ready to continue forward with each other.

Can love triumph when it is based on a promise made to a dead man? Curt Bannerman is a retired Navy Seal who once promised his best friend Eric Prichard that he would take care of his wife and children if anything ever happened to him. This is a promise that so many in the Military hopping that it will never have to be fulfilled. In this story, Eric unfortunately dies and Dana Prichard is left a young widow raising 4 children. As is the Navy way, the men of his unit rotate their time to help Eric's widow throughout that first terrible year. When Curt realizes that his feelings are much more than just his dedication to fulfilling a promise to his dead best friend, he realizes he loves Dana. This is a beautiful and well written story that takes us through their struggles to get to their HEA.

While this is in the series it isn't about any of the main team that we have been introduced to. However, the main couple have been in the previous books and I'm really glad they got their own story after such loss in their lives. I really enjoyed the fact they weren't left by the wayside. Their story was beautiful and the comfort and joy they found enhanced the overall series. Kudos to the author for giving them a novella .

This story has just the right amount of angst. Curt and Dana make a great couple but are hesitant to become a "couple" because of Eric (her deceased husband and his best friend). I liked how they were not too quick to jump into things but ended up doing the right thing for everyone. Lots of action and plenty of heat. Another great read in the Trident series.

Moving on is hard to do. Especially when the ghost of a loved one is standing there. Especially when that ghost would approve and want the people involved to be happy. To move on without him. Samantha A Cole has done it again with this novella. In a short time frame she brings these two people to life making them real and complex and imperfect. For those that follow the Trident Series, this book is set apart from the series and shows how the teams take care of family. There isn't as much suspense in this one but that allows for a comfortable slower paced read all about falling in love. And yes moving on and finding happiness again. This is one series I will hate to see end. I have fallen in love with the entire crew.

I really loved this story, and was so drawn into it. I just couldn't put it down and I especially loved how the relationship between the children and Curt evolved as him and Dana fall in love and how supportive Eric's family and the rest of SEAL team 4 were towards it. Not to mention the story itself, which was sweet, heartwarming, emotional, but at times fun too, and I would totally recommend this book to any fan of the series.

Just a nice lovely story. A novella that made me cry in the last few pages but happy tears all the same. Not as dramatic as the other books but I loved it anyway

Now, while this wasn't my favourite nook of the series so far, it was a nice change to read. There was now BDSM, no action from Trident, just a pure heart touching to!Lance story. I loved Dana and Curt, and it was good to see how their life turned out. 😊

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional romance

    No plot spoilers
    No potential triggers
Awww good grief this is a truly emotional book, it's Curt's story, and brings to life the story behind Eric who was killed in an earlier book. Not saying anything more because it would provide plot spoilers. However, as usual the characterisation is exceptional, the warmth of the Trident family surrounding even the more remote members and I have to admit that I loved this heart warming book.
There is plenty of swearing, some sex without the more usual BDSM element from previous books.
There are, again, some proof reading errors that really should have been picked up, but they didn't detract from the storyline.
