- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2023Alex Winters has written a very sensitive compelling story of young lesbian love. It surprised me that a man could write with this much passion about lesbian love and the sex was hot and very to the point. I enjoyed the story, the setting and the characters. A good summers day read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023A nice read. Low angst summer romance, with lovely characters and nicely written story. I really enjoyed this book and it left me with a smile.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2023This was my first book by Alex Winter and I was pretty disappointed. The premise is cute - two people meet over the summer and hook up. It was a short novella which felt at once too short and also way too long. I had two main problems with the story. The first is that one of the characters kept switching back and forth between the name Jade and the name Jasmine, sometimes within the same paragraph! This is really annoying and takes me right out of the story. One time, it might be "a slip of the tongue", but I counted at least a dozen instances.
The second problem is the sex scenes. I love a hot and steamy sex scene as much as the next lesbian, but these were pretty cringeworthy. It read more like a male fantasy of what lesbian sex is like, including some very puzzling "how does that description work with anatomy?". Also, the author made it his mission to employ every single word he has ever heard to refer to women's anatomy, including a lot of words that were very jarring in the context and served only to elicit an "eww" from me.
TL:DR - main characters cute, sex scenes not, 2 stars.
