4.8 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

When a stuntman is shot while rehearsing a scene for the newest movie starring cowboy hero Cody West, everyone considers his death an unfortunate accident. Veterinarian and amateur sleuth Tullah Holliday doesn’t hesitate to get involved. Her empathic senses tell her he was murdered. She suspects Cody West is the killer.
As Tullah begins to put together the pieces of the case, West is stomped to death by a young stallion being trained as a stunt horse. Tullah soon discovers the entire movie crew seems to have had motives to kill West. Then two women each confess to being the murderer, and they also point a finger at a third accomplice.
So who killed Cody West—the horse or…?

Loretta C. Rogers is a fourth generation Floridian, and proud of her Scots-Irish, German heritage. She admits to using writing as an excuse to avoid cleaning house. In her younger days, she and her pinto mare busted cattle out of the brush. She trailer-trained horses, and competed in a couple of 25-mile trail endurance rides. These days, she rides a rocking chair.

When asked why she writes in different genres, Loretta doesn't mind telling readers that she lets the characters inside her head tell their own story. From Old West lawmen to Contemporary rival drug cartels, Loretta crafts the plot. She calls it, 'getting out of the way,' and letting creativity take over. This is why her tagline is: Romance with a Twist...Expect the Unexpected!

Aside from the fact that I get to be my own boss and go to work in my pgs, I enjoy writing because I get to live vicariously through my characters that are clever and fearless, but in real life I’m afraid of snakes and heights. Let’s face it; I wouldn’t last five minutes as a character in one of my books.

The thing I appreciate most is when readers accuse me of keeping them up all night turning the pages of one of my novels. I also love that I get paid to make up stuff. Other than being addicted to crossword puzzles, I have no hobbies because writing is all consuming and takes a lot out of me.

Something she'd like readers to know--That she is also L.W. Rogers.

Loretta values her readers. If you enjoy her books, she would appreciate your letting others know by posting a review. She prefers FaceBook to Tweeting, and can be found on Pinterest. She hopes readers will drop by and say, howdy!

Happy Reading!

I’m blown away! This cozy mystery series gets better and better. The mystery is top notch, with suspense building in intensity throughout the story. Good luck figuring out the final reveal before the end! The movie making characters, descriptions, and actions keep the reader’s interest. The close-knit circle of family and friends surrounding the main character, Tullah, is well depicted. Time flows along realistically with the heroine. The vicissitudes of small town life are shown, as lesser characters depart from the scene to be replaced by new personalities moving to the town of Enigma, Kentucky.
Favorite Supporting Characters- Starlight and Spitfire.
Fun Tidbit- The down home food enjoyed by Tullah and the others—bacon and eggs, barbecue, burgers, mouth-watering treats, and—COFFEE—keeps the book grounded, shows the passage of time, and makes the mouth water.
Memorable Line- Dad gave her a look that would shrivel a raisin.
Couldn't put it down. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Lights...Camera...Murder! is the third Doc Holiday mystery by Loretta C. Rogers. Released 17th Aug 2022, it's 212 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

Dr. Tullah Holliday is a veterinarian who winds up assisting yet another investigation when a death occurs on the site of a local film production company on location in her rural Kentucky town. It's an ensemble cast of well drawn characters including Dr. Holliday, her father (the local sheriff), her grandmother (the town mayor), and her veterinary assistant, Ella.

The author is adept at characterization and setting. It's a fast read and very engaging. There's also a significant paranormal element which ties into the Cherokee belief system and Dr. Holliday's own intuitions and insights as the investigation proceeds. It's not a large part of the plot, but it is there. There's also some -very- questionable medical plot tie-ins concerning sexually transmitted diseases. I can only assume the author confused HPV with chlamydia and it made it through the editing process without question. That yanked me out of the story. I suspect it might not be a problem for most readers who don't work in histopathology; but it is inaccurate as written. (80% of humans will acquire HPV in their lifetimes, it clears without any treatment or intervention in over 90% of cases. In fact, most people never know they've had it. Chlamydia on the other hand....).

With three books extant in the series at this point, it would be a good choice for a weekend binge or buddy read.

    Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
