Karen Musser Nortman, after previous incarnations as a secondary social studies teacher (22 years) and a test developer (18 years), returned to her childhood dream of writing mysteries. Her first series, The Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries, sprouted from numerous camping trips in Iowa and through at least 24 other states. The Frannie Shoemaker Mysteries center around a group of retirees who camp together and sometimes stumble over dead bodies. Six of the books have been designated IndieBRAG medallion honorees and three have been finalists in Chanticleer CLUE and Mystery and Mayhem contests. Most of the books are based on actual campgrounds.

Karen has two other series. The Time Travel Trailer series follows the adventures of Lynne McBriar who buys a vintage camper that turns out to be a time portal. The first in the series, by the same name, was the 2015 category winner in the Chanticleer Paranormal contest. The Mystery Sisters is a new series involving two seventy-something sisters who travel the country in a 1950 Studebaker, argue, annoy their relatives, and solve mysteries.

Karen has three children and eight grandchildren. She also loves reading, gardening, and knitting, and can recite the 99 counties of Iowa in alphabetical order.

I love this series and Karen Missed Norman did not disappoint with this latest installment of the Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries!!!! Not only is the storyline riveting, but the camping tips and recipes in the back of the book are wonderful!

This time around, Frannie and Larry take on the challenge of being first-time campground hosts in hopes of gaining experience and a recommendation for more hosting positions in the future. COVID has just made its presence known and new precautions must be learned and followed. It's May, a quiet time of year for camping and a good time to work in their first hosting experience. But followers of this series know that where Frannie and Larry go, trouble will be found!!! From an early season tornado to an attack on one of the campers, this book is filled with non-stop action from beginning to end. I highly recommend this series!!!

I love these books. In fact, once I start one of them I have trouble putting them down. Great as an escape to another world for a bit.

There are fun times, cookouts, fishing, grandchildren...and bad actors who come after other campers. Lots of people took up camping during the pandemic. Frannie and Larry were the right people to welcome them to a campground, but they got a lot more than they bargained for. A good read with some super camping tips and recipes at the end.

We all lived through the two years of stress that Covid gave the world, but no one deals with the crisis better than Frannie and friends. This wonderful mystery deals with the subject in an innovative way--by letting us live out our frustrations as camp hosts during the crisis. I love the Frannie Shoemaker series and enjoy reading each adventure. I think of the characters as camping friends, having spent five years roaming the country in an RV. Luckily I never ran into a dead body or tracked down a murderer during our travels. Frannie can do that for all of us. If you've ever wondered how a camp host deals with disaster or crime while performing their duties, get this book. You'll get hooked on the series like me.

Finally Larry and Frannie are giving hosting at a campground a try. It can't be that hard can it?
Add the Pandemic, their daughter-in-law being hospitalized with Covid, a night time tornado, and a mysterious person dressed all in black haunting the campground into the mix and things can just go over the top.
    Really enjoyable read.

I have really enjoyed all the frannie shoemaker stories so far but this one really tested my patience with the covid crap….wearing masks Outside at a campground??? Ridiculous!

Frannie and Larry decide to be campground hosts for a month to try it out and see if they would like to do it more often. Of course nothing goes right at first. Covid hits, their daughter-in-law is hospitalized with Covid so the grandchildren come to stay with them, a strong storm damages many trailers/rv's, including theirs. A woman is missing and after the storm a man is missing. Frannie, as usual, ends upin the middle of the mystery of missing campers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking mystery

This is a cracking mystery. A little more serious in then others in this series dealing with the early days of the pandemic. Frannie and her husband are trying out being campground hosts and dealing with odd guests, bad weather, family issues, an attack and Covid restrictions. The mystery is great as usual, the characters are good and the ending satisfactory. I really loved these books. Michelle Babb is a accomplished narrator prefect for these stories.
