    Devyn makes for an interesting retelling of an old tale with a new twist. I enjoyed the fast pace and worldbuilding of this new kingdom to explore. The FMC bleeds in her heart on the page and makes you want to follow her as she delves deeper into a quagmire of politics that will mean a vast reshaping of her whole nation. An excellent YA read.

    First and foremost, thank you to the author for giving me an arc copy of this book!

    I was super excited to get this book as it is fantasy and with some romance in the plot. Originally I had read a couple chapters and put it on the backburner for a while (I wasn't in the best reading mood, and wasn't hooked right away). HOWEVER, I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN MYSELF FOR PUTTING IT ON HOLD. This story is so darn good and the characters are all very well rounded and well thought out. I literally could not put it down once I got back into the story. The twist and turns of the plot are wild, and it left me turning my page so fast to find out what comes next. Third POV is not my favorite, but I do think it is done quite well. The world building done beautifully, to the point you could picture everything so vividly while reading. This is just a debut novel, and I am so so so excited to read the next book to come.
    10/10 recommend!!!!

    Let me start off by saying I haven't found a book that has kept my attention and kept the pages turning in years. That is until I read The Sanguine Queen. Which I completed in about 5 hours because I couldn't put it down!
    The retelling of Little Red Riding Hood allows your mind to picture already established characters, but Genevieve James takes those characters and makes them as her own. She then takes those characters on a journey that will leave you guessing and wanting more!
    Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next I was thrown for a loop by James' amazing weave of storytelling and world building.
    This being part 1 of a 2 part series left me wanting more when the last page turned so I cannot wait to read the follow up to this story!
    I highly recommend adding it to your collection!

    This book gave me vibes of little red riding hood but it’s not a retelling of it. The story is so good and it just keeps you on edge while giving little information here and there on who’s the evil one. I was shook when everything gets laid out and you discover who’s behind her mom’s assassination. I highly recommend this book, it’s really good. It will keep you entertain all the way until the end and it will leave you wanting more because it does leave you in a cliff hanger.

    I don’t even know where to start. What to say…. All I can say is that this is the freaking red riding hood story that I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED!!! Looking for your favorite childhood stories retold? This is the one!! The mental images were so good and the stubborn FMC and the brazen villain both hell bent of revenge of a common enemy!!! Ugh it was so good. It was so hard to put it down. I was pulled into this story and on my toes the whole time. Just when I thought I had the plot and story figured out I was immediately spun around in the best way possible!!! I have Zero criticism and also WHERES BOOK 2!!!

    The journey you go on with Devyn is mind blowing. The author has woven a world of magic, monarchy and betrayal. I was on the edge of my seat and left guessing the next twist and turn. This retake on red riding hood will pull you another world leaving you to feel the emotions these characters feel rather it be the pain of loss or the rush of falling in love. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy or romance books with a strong female heroine at the forefront. I look forward to the rest of this series and following Devyn's story further.

    If you love popular childhood story retelling with mystery, angst, and a big bad wolf; this book is for you. This world will draw you in and have you begging for more. Secrets, betrayal, loss; did I mention the big bad wolf? The bread crumbs are worth the wait!
