The Duke's Saber (The Duke’s Guard Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 315 ratings

“Let me be the man who loves ye, and makes love to ye, for the rest of our days. Say yes, lass.”

The Duke’s Guard: The men in black who have sworn an oath to protect the Duke of Wyndmere and his family from enemies that would stop at nothing to discredit and destroy him!

Ryan Garahan has given his vow to the Duke of Wyndmere, and nothing will deter him from his duty.

Fate has other plans the day Ryan reacts instantly to a cry for help. He races to the ancient oak at the edge of the village, glances up and notices two things at once: a pair of scuffed half boots and shapely stocking clad legs dangling directly above him.

He quickly averts his gaze, but cannot forget the heavenly sight of long, lithe legs adorned with white silk stockings—tied with scarlet ribbon garters—nor the curve of her delectable
derrière!! He nearly swallows his tongue.

Prudence Barstow has been sent to the Borderlands as governess to her young twin cousins.

Prudence's love of the outdoors, and her rambunctious young cousins' constantly flaunting danger, has the trio being rescued more than once by Ryan. This time he fears he is too late, when he sees the lass slipping under the water as he sets the twin beside his brother on the bank of the pond.

Danger stalks in the night, but it will have to challenge The Duke’s Saber before he will let harm come to those he has sworn to protect with his strength, his honor, and his heart.

About the Author

In case we have not met yet, here is a little bit about me: I write Historical & Contemporary Romance featuring: Hardheaded Heroes & Feisty Heroines.I fell in love at first sight, when I was seventeen, with the man who will hold my heart forever. DJ and I were married for 41 wonderful years until my darling lost his battle with cancer. We have three grown children-one son-in-law, two grandsons, two rescue dogs, and two rescue grand-cats.My Hardheaded Heroes and Feisty Heroines rarely listen to me. In fact, I think they enjoy messing with my plans for them. BUT if there is one thing I've learned in dealing with my characters for the past 28 years, it is to listen them! My heroes always have a few of DJ's best qualities: his honesty, his integrity, his compassion for those in need, and his killer broad shoulders.I have always used family names in my books and love adding bits and pieces of my ancestors and ancestry in them, too. I write about the things I love most: My Family, my Irish and English Ancestry, Baking and Gardening.Happy reading!

If we have not met yet, I’m delighted to meet you! Here’s a little bit about me…

I have been writing romance novels for almost half my life, well at least for the last 30 years. I’m a diehard romantic and have to confess the broad shoulders and wicked glint in the brilliant green eyes of a stranger had my breath snagging in my breast, my heart beating madly, and my future flashing before my eyes. At the age of seventeen, I’d met the man I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

I write Historical & Contemporary Romance featuring characters that I know so well: hardheaded heroes and feisty heroines! They rarely listen to me and in fact, I think they enjoy messing with my plans for them. Over the years I have learned to listen to them! I have always used family names in my books and love adding bits and pieces of my ancestors and ancestry in them, too!

Enjoyed the story

Enjoyed the story
Rating 4.5 A great addition to the Duke’s Guard series. It is well written, full of action and very entertaining. Prudence has had to deal with untrustworthy family and relatives and this has left her questioning her self worth as a woman. I loved Garahan and the love he has for Prudence and his ability to finally make her realize her value especially to him. As usual, danger from unknown sources takes various shapes with no way to know when or how they will make their presence known. I enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.

Unique series and entertaining. I can't believe how many people have it out for the Duke and all his family. It's getting somewhat unbelievable and even though it's becoming farfetched, I'm enjoying the journey.

These two people certainly belong together and touching how their love blossomed. Lovemaking within marriage - heat level 5 out of 5, filled with passion and love. Near the end I did roll my eyes how with all his injuries they still went at it like rabbits - lol.

Nasty villains, suspenseful moments, twists, intrigue and great banter especially between the cousins.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, standalone, bumpy road to HEA and steam. There was an epilogue less than a year in the future. I wanted more in the epilogue because so many things not clarified. Especially with the cousins and the villain who attacked someone at the end. (ljb)

Ryan Garahan is one of the Duke of Wyndmere's Guards. The man in black is a protector of the duke, his extended family and close friends. He puts his life on the line. The rescue of the local squire's twin sons and their governess, Prudence Barstow, is becoming a regular job, not that he's complaining. Treated with cruelty by the squire and his wife, they refuse to acknowledge Prudence is really their niece. The more Garahan learns of their mistreatment, the more he realizes that he loves the lass and there is only one way to keep her safe, but there is more danger ahead.
These books are always fast paced and a little complicated with all the guard's, their connected relatives and the Duke and his family. Start with the first book in the series to learn more about them. Of course, there's always a great love story. Mild descriptive sex.

Oh this is a book about Ryan Garahan, of the Dukes Guard at Summerfield Chase and Prudence the nanny to Squire Huneycutt's twin boys, Percival and Phinnias. Ryan met Prudence when she got her hair fought around a limb of a tree she climbed to rescue one of the twins. Ryan was definitely attracted to the girl. Prudence was a tall girl with a very curvey figure, much to Ryan's delight. Her mother and Aunt Hortensia ridiculed her for her highth and curves because she looked like her fathers mother and not small and blond like them and her sisters. She was mentally abused and denied proper food because of her larger proportions, tea and toast for breakfast, no lunch and a meager supper. Ryan loved her curvey, tall figure since he was quite tall with a muscular build. Ryan saved her twice, once in the tree and from nearly drowning after saving one of the twins. Vicious gossip was circulating about the Baron and Baroness Summerfield and Caravan himself, distressing all at Summerfield Chase. With the help of his cousin O'Gill, they had proof who was spreading the vicious gossip, but before the guilty party could be apprehended Prudence and two other girls were kidnapped but fortunately Grahan and omg I'll rescued the tree ladies. This is a feel good book about the love between Ryan and Prudence, but also building confidence in an abused young lady. I absolutely loved this book. Thanks to C.H. for writing such a great book.

Prudence has been treated cruelly by her mother because she isn’t a petite blond like her sisters. She has raven hair violet eyes and a curvaceous body. When she is sent her mother’s sister to be a governess to her mischievous twin sons she is treated even worse. The boys love her and she has never had anyone to love her before. They are little scamps and have a penchant for getting into trouble. When she climbs a tree to rescue one of the twins and gets caught they call for Garahan, the Duke’s guard to rescue her. Neither of them could foresee what the future holds for them.

The men of the Duke’s Guard are related. I love the way they interact.Brave and strong they each have a weak spot for the people they are guarding and go above and beyond in their duties to keep them safe. I loved the mystery and adventure of the story. The tender way Garahan treated Prudence was charming. I felt the story ended abruptly and not all issues were settled. I had hoped that would be in the epilogue but was disappointed.

The story rambled and much of the dialogue is repetitive. The author may be having problems with filling her word quota and is having difficulty creating interesting stories for the many members of the Duke’s Guard. The story does follow the overall plot of the series and leaves one wondering what will happen next.

I loved Garahan and Prudences story. He is a guard protecting the Baron and Baroness and she is a Governess to her twin cousins. Prudence was sent to live with her aunt & uncle when her parents didn’t want her around anymore. But instead of being family she’s treated like dirt, fed little and lives in the attics and can acknowledge that she is related.
He is one of the Dukes elite guards that seems to be near when Prudence needs help. First he rescues her from a tree then from drowning. But when her aunt banishes her to the attic, locks her in and refuses her water, her twin cousins run to find Garahan to rescue her again.
Another sweet love store with a wonderful ending.
