Saffron and Seaweed, a Summer McCloud paranormal mystery Kindle Edition
When the local police deny the crime and the newspaper prints nothing, Jerry and Summer realize they are on their own. But they have no idea how deep they will have to dig to find out the truth. The murder is only a thread in a web of lies that extends to the furthest reaches of political office.
Are Summer’s visions to be the only clues? Jerry doesn’t think so, his focus on good old-fashioned detective work, but when he doubts her psychic abilities the trust between them begins to crumble.
As the days pass, Jerry and Summer come to understand that not only their relationship, but their very lives are in jeopardy.

Nikki Broadwell is the author of three series that take place in or around Scotland and featuring the Celtic and Norse pantheon of gods and goddesses as well as fantastical and mystical settings and beings. Her themes are the natural world, feminine power, romantic entanglements, and the fight between good and evil.
If you enjoy futuristic, apocalyptic, goddess driven fantasy, time travel and/or paranormal mystery you have come to the right place.
After giving up a successful silk-painting business, Nikki has been writing full time since the early 2000's. And although the cash flowing in from the books is decidedly less, her interest continues.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2017Detective Jerry Brady (Ames PD homicide), was giving Summer McCloud (narrator, Tarot & Tea occult shop owner, clairvoyant) a ride on his new Indian Chief motorcycle.
They were at Napatree Point beach swimming & Summer reached for Jerry’s hand but it was not his. It was a dead female body.
Buffy Slade & Drake Long got married aboard the Seaweed (yacht).
They plan on honeymooning in Bermuda.
Yvonne Abbadi (Algerian/French, daughter, bridesmaid, Nathan’s GF) was the dead female’s name.
Dutch the ME had determined she was drinking & had been murdered (asphyxiated).
Fast forward, Judge Maria Barbieri was missing.
The FBI are still searching for Nathan.
What later happened to Dutch & Steven Weebley?
Will a suspect be caught & brought to justice?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great murder mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

This is the first book I have read by new to me author Nikki Broadwell and although it is book 2 in the series the author states (and I would generally agree) that the book works as a stand alone.
This is a good little paranormal mystery although I didn't always connect with the characters. I wonder if that perception may have been a little different had I stared the series with the first book.
That being said the story was solid and I never actually felt (like I do with some books) that I was "Missing" key information. There are some good twists and although I wasn't able to solve the mystery before the characters when the resolution was presented it made perfect sense.
Overall a fairly good mystery - 3/12 stars rounded up to 4.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2018This was a fun mystery that is a fast easy read. The main reason it didn't work better for me was because I couldn't connect with the heroine. She came off as self absorbed. She was very flippant about the murder in several places and that didn't help. That aside if you enjoy popcorn mystery you should enjoy this read. I enjoy anything paranormal so I will try other books from this author just not this series since me and the main character didn't mesh.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2017In this second installment, Summer McCloud and his cop boyfriend, Jerry, leave Ames to have some vacation in the beach town of Watch Hill, but as they arrived, they discover a dead body in the water and the mini holidays gets complicated.
The plot is good and I like the idea of a team made up of psychic skills (Summer) and detective abilities (Jerry). It is a really great combination. I think I enjoyed this one more than 'murder in plain sight'.
The fast pace is one of the best things of this book. It drugs you in, wanting to know more. Everything happens fast and the dialogues go straight to the point.
Nikki Broadwell has created a great scenario, mixing paranormal elements, with some politics, converging in a thriller with some twists and turns.
That being said, now I have to explain why this book wasn't my cup of tea.
First of all I need to say, the way they face the dead woman discovery upset me a bit. I don't know how to explain it... in some point Summer was even worried because a storm was coming, and she thought something like "I hopped we could spend some time in the beach. I wanted to work on my tan". Seriously? Is not a priority to know what happened? This probably affected me more than it should but I think, sadly, it determined the rest of my reading.
The other thing I don't get is that they should be a great team: psychic and cop together? Come on! piece of cake! But, no, they are not. They are constantly ranting in a childish way, and dismissing the obvious, or worse, jumping to conclusions without a clear cognitive development (not clear to me, anyway)
For the reasons above it didn't work for me but this is just my opinion and it could work for you perfectly, because, the thing is, I am very picky with suspense themes, so this is a problem of mine and no one else's.
In spite of my rate, you probably should give this story a go, I think it would work perfectly for some readers. So if you are attracted to the synopsis (as I was) and the great cover (it is great) give "Saffron and Seaweed" a try!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2016Throw together an excellent mystery with lots of twists and a dash of romance, along with a bit of angst, politics and restless murder victims who want closure and write it all up in a beautiful style with mega talent and you will get Nikki Broadwell's latest novel, Saffron and Seaweed.
Great read! I enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to more from this author.
