This is not your average boy and girl meet and the sex is so phenomenal that they fall I love. These characters spoke to me because they were real people who loved each other and still made mistakes. Love didn't win because it was supposed to. They worked at the relationship, really worked, and came out on top. Looking forward to book four.

While most post people look for the ideal relationship(man) in books, Maya has done a good job of bringing out actual angst in a relationship when two very ambitious people meet. I loved both journeys as they discover what is important.

From the Author
I hope you'll give my book a chance. Here is a chapter to whet your appetite!
Chapter 11: Forest
I drove like a madman to get to her. Daisy wasn't the type who'd send a message saying urgent if it wasn't a firestorm.
She opened the door before I could ring the doorbell. She was in denim shorts and a t-shirt. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun. She looked absolutely gorgeous and worried as hell.
"Baby, what's wrong?" I took her in my arms, and she hugged me back.
She led me inside the house and we into her brightly lit kitchen.
"You want coffee?" she asked.
I shook my head. "Honey, what's going on?"
"Sit," she instructed and pushed me onto the white bench in the breakfast nook. She sat across from me, looking nervous.
I took her hands in mine and moved my thighs to hold hers between mine.
She smiled uneasily. "Forest, I...I'm pregnant."
Thunder bolt! "I don't know if I heard you correctly. Did you say you are pregnant?" My heart was falling all over itself beating like a mother. Finally, finally, the universe was giving me a break. Yes!!!!!!
"Yeah. I just found out. Took five pregnancy tests. I need to make an appointment with my gyno. And...Forest?"
I couldn't stop beaming. "You're pregnant?"
"Yeah."
I got up and pulled out of the breakfast nook and hugged her. "This is awesome, DeeDee."
She pulled away so she could see my face. "You're not upset?"
"Upset? Why the hell would I be upset? Nah. This is...wow, DeeDee. We're going to be parents."
She smiled, but she was confused. "I'm so...it's great that you're so positive. We'll obviously come up with a...you know custody agreement and all that."
My heart sank, but I refused to let go of her. Of course, she'd assume that we'd continue as we were. The hell with that. She was mine now. DeeDee and the baby inside her.
I did some fast thinking—well, I was known to think on my feet and be creative. I graduated top of my class in Harvard, and I was a Judge. "DeeDee, sweetheart, you know I'm up for the judgeship of the Ninth Circuit."
She nodded.
"Baby, we can't...you know...you can't have a baby without us being married. It's going to mess up my chances."
I had no idea whether that was true or not; and if this were any other woman than DeeDee I'd be all about a custody agreement and the hell with the world. But this was my Daisy, and I was going to marry her. Sure, I was trapping her, using a bogus reason, but once she was mine, I'd make it my life's work to keep her there.
She looked stricken, and I kissed her on her forehead. Poor DeeDee. This was all too much for her. But I was here now, and I'd take care of her.
"We have to get married?"
"I'm afraid so." Thank you, UNIVERSE!!
"Married?" If she got any paler, I'd have to call 911, I thought.
"But Forest—"
"DeeDee this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me."
"Then we tell no one," she said steadily. "And...once you get confirmed—"
I hugged her tighter and kissed her to stop her from talking. "You know it's going to be near impossible to keep it a secret. I want to come to all your doctor's appointments. I want to hold your hand through this and be there with you. Please, DeeDee."
"Christ, Forest." She pulled away from me. "This isn't like you asking me to come to some party with you as a date. This is a marriage."
Think, Forest, think before she convinces herself that this is a bad idea.
"I know. How about we say we'll remain married for eighteen months and then we can revisit our status."
"Why eighteen months?" she asked suspiciously.
Hell if I know! It just seemed like a good number.
"You know how these hearings go; they can take long. You'll need help once the baby is born. We should be together for all of that."
"Eighteen months is doable," she said, and I breathed a sigh of relief. "But we have to live here. I can't live in Venice."
"Not a problem. This is closer to the court, anyway." I'd give up surfing if she asked me to.
"We'll have to have an airtight prenup. I don't want anyone to think that I want anything from you."
I grinned. The world may think Daisy was marrying into the Knight family for money, but the truth would be that she'd make sure the prenup protected me. I didn't need protection. I didn't even want a prenup. The hell with it. I was never going to let her go.
"Of course. I'm sure we can get that in place. Stop thinking so hard, baby." I opened my arms.
"Come here."
She took two steps, and she was in my embrace. I held her close.
"I don't want us to keep fighting, Forest. It's too stressful."
"I promise I will be the most agreeable husband you could ever imagine." As long as you didn't want to leave me, then I'd be damned disagreeable.
She chuckled.
"What?" I asked.
"Looks like you and I will get married in the courthouse like Esme and Dec; and Mateo and Raya did. Too bad you can't marry us. Then we'd just put a "get married here" sign outside your chambers."
"If you want a Church wedding..."
"It feels wrong when we know this is temporary."
She was killing me with this wall she had built around her. "Anything you want."
"My parents, Forest. I have to tell them."
"We'll do it together." She would never have to do anything difficult alone again.
She nodded. "And your parents, how will they react?"
"Let me prep them first and then it should be fine; and if it isn't they can go hang themselves. If they can't be happy about a grandchild, the hell with them."
I stayed the night with her.
There was no way I was going to give her time and space to think about us. She'd convince herself the marriage was a bad idea. She lay with her head on my shoulder, and I had an arm around her with my hand on her stomach. A slightly curved stomach—but that wasn't the baby, not yet, just Daisy, lush and lovely.
My phone vibrated, and I saw that it was River who tended to call at all times of day and night. I had called him earlier in the evening and left him a voicemail to call me back.
I disentangled from Daisy and left her bedroom with my phone and called my brother.
"Who's dead?" River asked.
"Daisy and I are having a baby." I couldn't believe I'd just said those amazing words.
"Wow! You're obviously thrilled."
I heard loud popping sounds on River's end. "Where are you, River?"
"Somewhere in the East."
"That's a rather large mass of land. And what I hear is a HIMARS." I had been in LAPD for a hot minute and knew my weapons.
"A what?"
"A High Mobility Artillery Rocket System."
"No? Really?" River chuckled and then somberly said, "Congratulations, brother. This is awesome news. What's next? What can I do for you?"
I told him quickly (because he was literally in a war zone) about the upcoming wedding and how I'd sort of emotionally blackmailed Daisy into agreeing to it. I had absolutely no moral issues with it. She just needed to start believing in me and us; and know I'd not mess up the way I had.
"Please tell me you didn't get her pregnant on purpose," River laughed.
"I would have if I'd thought about it...but this is the universe smiling at me."

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2025The story was great. I love Daisy so much, she is a queen, I mostly liked how she was fighting for her career and never gave those ungrateful people a chance to destroy her amazing work. She is a strong woman, knows how to protect herself, her worth, has healthy family and friends and has a good priorities. I love all female leads ( Esme and Raya) but Daisy is my favorite female lead. So about ML, I don’t like him very much, he was selfish and hypocrite all 99% of the book. I was furious he didn’t give Daisy ( his pregnant wife ) any support and for not giving his family deserved revenge. Mostly I thought he saw Daisy as his toy, when he wanted her he must have her as he pleased ( if she rejects him, he will literally damaged her house ) and when things got tough he will just throw her and will do his work ( I’m also so angry what he did in past, he has a lot of issues and he needs to go to therapy not start a family immediately). He was like: “ Me, everyone belongs to me, me, my career is more important than my wife or the baby, me this and me that, wow even though I knew my family was bad and most likely are bad influence to me, I never thought they would have done this nasty things to my wife even though my brother always warned me about them, wow it’s just a huge shock to me but I will immediately believe that Daisy will cheat on me, lie to me and do something bad to ruin my career even though everyone is telling me she is not like that, yeah right I better believe “facts” then logic part of myself that’s telling me that I know she is loyal and has big golden heart.” I’m glad he did at least one good thing and realized how horrible he was to Daisy. I would recommend everyone to read this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2024I love Maya's books. She has the best characters. Forest and Daisy have to be the ones that caused themselves the most anxiety and grief by getting in their own way. They each have their own insecurities, and they were often exhausting to see how they kept messing up. They're perfect for each other because no one else would deal with their dumba$$.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2025Like all this author’s other books, this story has a great plot line. However it feels very rushed and there are a ton of grammatical errors, to the point that you get distracted from the story. It’s also stated that this book can be read as a standalone, but because of how fast paced the book is, I don’t believe that to be true. Luckily, I’d already read the first two books in the series, so I could easily follow along. However, if you have not read Dec & Esme and Raya & Mateo’s stories, I would say this book may not be for you. It may end up feeling like random characters with no backstory are being thrown at you in the beginning, which is unfortunate because they have such great storylines.
Overall, if you’ve never read a Maya Alden book, I’d say don’t start here. She is genuinely an amazing romance author but this book is just not it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2025Daisy has been one of my favorite side characters throughout the series, so I was glad to finally get the full story of what happened with her and Forest. I must say, for a Harvard educated judge, Forest might have been the dumbest of all the guys so far! I could have used a little more grovel from him, although him declaring his love and devotion to her to the world live was a pretty good start.
I cannot believe he wouldn’t talk to her before jumping into bed with someone else and then to just let her fend for herself with the media? Yeah, he owes her a lifetime of grovel!
I loved seeing more of River and having a chapter from his perspective. I actually read his book first and it’s my favorite of the series, so love seeing more of him and can’t wait to read the 5th book now.
Also, Lena Knight is truly evil. Forest needs to make sure she can’t get anywhere near him or Daisy. Personally, I think he should blast her to the media for all she’s done. She deserves it. He wants to truly make it up to Daisy? That’s how to do it! That lady needs a good dose of karma!
Great read as always!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2024Daisy and Forest are characters I could not wait to read about. I loved this book so much!! Daisy and Forest go through a lot in their relationship. I appreciate how Maya wrote about their relationship. I highly recommend this book as well as all of Maya's books!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2024I liked the story. But there were so many grammatical errors I almost quit reading. Don't recall so many errors in the first book of the series. I'm glad I finished reading the book as I did love the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2024I usually avoid books when the characters are famous. I really enjoy Ms. Alden's work so I gave it a try. It was so good. Forrest was a bit of a jerk, but he would not be a Knight if he wasn't. I liked Daisy in the other books but this was her moment to shine...and she did. Great book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2024This book was good. I must say that the men in thus series seem to get worse and the books go on. Forest was such a crappy person. He treated Daisy like crap the whole book. He acted like his career and life long dreams were more important than hers. She was trashed in the media and her career took hit after because of his family but he refused to stand up for her. What kind of man does that? Also Daisy started out strong but then became a weak mess as the story went on. She should have blasted him and his family for the things they did. He did the right thing in the end but for me it was a little to late. She should have left him. But the overall book was good. I just like books were the female characters get stronger not weaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a love marriage
I loved it, the hero and heroine were just right for each other. There was a lot of conflict because of the jobs they both had, but i felt the real theme was compromise.
Possible spoiler ahead
I would have liked to see some comeuppance for mum and dad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love is the priority
This story witnesses twists and turns like no other and is a silent affliction upon every reader who understands love means prioritising your partner above your entire world. They are just meant to be despite whatever they have gone through. Daisy and Forrest commit mistakes and own up to them with their heart. The surprise pregnancy becomes their final chance to amend what they have lost. I liked it... It's a good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5stars - Not enough grovel
Spoiler -
love all of Maya’s books I’ve read so far, however, I was disappointed that this story felt very rushed at the end and there was hardly any grovel from the MMC. For saying Daisy was shown to be a strong independent FMC throughout the book, Forest hurt her when she was at her most vulnerable near the end and I felt that he didn’t put in the effort needed to win her back. If there was a real “five years later” for this story, I doubt this couple would be together as I don’t think that Forest would ever truly put his family before his career.
