Action, Christian characters, strife, good intentions, errors, hope, disloyalty, love, intrigue - you name it, this book has it.

Even though The Vortex felt very complete to me, there were many questions raised and (clearly) much more story to tell. I was really looking forward to the sequel and it does not disappoint.

Where the first book evokes (favorably) "Of Mice and Men", "Fracture" reminded me of nothing so much as "Othello." Lenny is the classic action hero from book one inserted into a world of political intrigue he is wholly unsuited for. He's not exactly naive—he's seen too many messed up things for that—but he's unprepared for the sheer evil of the politician, Ann Chambers.

Chambers is the best kind of evil character in that she has no concept of her own evil-ness, and she's actually very persuasive in her arguments, as long as you don't think too hard about implications and overlook the means she's using to get to her ends. As the flip side to Lenny's guilelessness, she can't herself believe that, given the opportunity, everyone else doesn't share her own ambitions and, uh, "liberal methodologies". Much like Iago, she constantly demonstrates her virtue while working to undermine Lenny.

Only Lenny's faith can save him. And only for a while.

Definitely check out the author's website/mailing list so you can get the novel explaining the backstory touched on here!

The hero of Vortex, Lenny Small is back, working hard to rebuild LA after a devastating hurricane. But the worst is yet to come. Seismic data indicates a major earthquake is coming and a self-serving politician is doing her best to prevent Lenny from saving Angelino lives. I liked Vortex, but Fracture is even better. Hard to put down.

Ian's books are interesting in topic, and especially the characters. You can really see the forces of evil scheming and fighting against the good. I really enjoy his writing!
