Being a teen in the '70s, I was instantly drawn to this fantastic book's description of "It's the psychedelic summer of 1966 .." Chrissy captures the spirit of that time with perfection. The pages took me back to days of my youth and I often found myself visiting music of that era in between reading breaks.
My journey from cover to cover was not only one of enjoying a great read, but being transported back to the days of yesteryear. I strongly recommend Chrissy's debut novel .

It's the psychedelic summer of 1966 in Philadelphia. Having left behind her conservative, traditional upbringing down south to pursue a nursing career, 21-year-old Emmy Williams is new to the city and all it encompasses, determined to become a liberated, new woman. On her first night in the city, along with her three new roommates, the girls go out to see a local aspiring progressive rock band play a show. When Emmy unintentionally falls for the charmingly handsome lead guitarist Roger Burton, they begin a romance unlike any other...until Roger cracks under the pressures of the band's newfound record deal and becomes addicted to drugs, testing not only their relationship and love, but Emmy's strength and perseverance.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023Emmy, Roger and the rest of the characters are amazingly developed with details that made me feel like I had a front row seat to their story. The story line is intriguing from start to finish. I found it hard to put the book down, to the point I found myself reading until the early morning hours.
Butterflies have always had a special meaning to me - now when I see them I will also remember the message held within this book. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2024Where the butterflies land is a heartfelt, humorous love story filled with ups and downs. It follows Em and her rockstar boyfriend who has a drug addiction and despite their best efforts it ultimately ends in grief. The characters have distinct personalities which are fun. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to whatever else Chrissy comes up with!
thank you so much for giving me your book!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2024This book broke my heart. It had me ugly crying at 12:30am. I was not ready for the way this book would devastate me. I havent read a book that did this to me for a while. The best way to describe what reading this feels like is, a 100% better, and adult version of if hed been with me. Of course the stories are completely different, but the way that book breaks you, imagine that x10. This book is one of those ones that hurts so bad, and so good. It is a beautiful story.
This heart wrenching Romance is a beautiful stand alone. The romance is a slow burn that starts with a gentle love story, before it takes heart breaking turns. The book is not spicy. It has adult language, and some very mild intimacy. The book moves at a steady pace following the emotional relationship of Emmy, and Roger. There are ups and downs with heart breaking twists, and turns as we see the moments from their first kiss to their goodbye. Emmy is a woman who comes into the world full of innocence. Roger is a aspiring rockstar, who at his core is gentle and dangerously vulnerablLe to the pressures the world can give. Emmys, and Rogers friends are great with different personalities. The story takes place in 1966 in Philadelphia. The way the story is written its like stepping into that time, and into the story. This book will have you wrapped up in the emotional rollarcoaster Emmy, and Roger are experiencing. You won’t want to put it down.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2023I had the pleasure of being a beta-reader for “Where The Butterflies Land” by Chrissy Dugas.
She has a strong and beautiful writing style that captures the reader and moves them along. Something expected of an established author, and so refreshing to discover in a debut work.
Her characters are compelling and well defined. The story reads like a memoir, or even a coming-of-age diary set in the 1960s. She captured the feeling of those times with brilliant imagery while presenting a powerful story about addiction and mental illness.
It seems to me her subject matter of choice is germane to the current times. Such a story is needed and relatable.
I really like the main character, Emmy. The author made her real and allowed her to grow and develop into a strong character. That growth seemed natural and organic. The other main character, Roger, comes across as a troubled young man with more burden than he could handle. I think many people are like that. The author did an excellent job showing how a talented person can be self-destructive. His desire to be his best made him his worst. All the secondary characters are powerful with wonderful voice providing the fuel needed to move the story logically along.
I think this is an excellent book, well written and well presented.
A five-star gem waiting to be enjoyed.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2024I just want to say this book deals with some heavy subjects but the author does such an amazing job balancing the heavy/light in the most superb way. This book is set in the 1960 with the whole peace and love era, moving to Philadelphia to become a nurse. The FMC is from a southern town(IYKYK) She meets Roger and have a whirlwind romance but it's not with out it's ups and and Roger has a secret. This book will have you all over the place you will laugh, smile, angry but best of all it gives us hope, hope and believing in yourself and your self worth. This book will take you for a ride and won't ever let you go. I look forward to reading more from this amazing author.
