Xerenyse the Witch Cat Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 16 ratings

Xerenyse survives by sticking to three important points:
Lie low – Don’t let the enemy touch you – Let your feline instincts take over.
Turned into a cat to escape being sacrificed due to a family curse, it isn’t easy hiding when you’re not used to living in the skin of a cat.
That said, all Xerenyse has to do is turn nineteen and pray her family can turn her back to a human.
Found as a stray in Brittany’s Brocéliande forest, Xerenyse doesn’t expect to develop such feelings for Tristan, her saviour. Feelings of love and being cherished.
But with her pursuer continually shifting to trap her, she mustn’t drop her guard. Her enemy is desperate. His time is running out.
Will returning to her normal self put an end to her relationship with Tristan? He adored her as a cat. Would he fall in love with her as a human?
That is if the enemy doesn’t get to her first…

I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters were well developed and I was drawn throughout. The plot flowed perfectly and it was an easy read. Some highlights from this book include family ties, witches, a bit of clean romance, drama, a tinge of evilness, and waiting for the outcome. This was such a fun read.

Xerenyse is turned into a cat on her eighteenth birthday by her ghostly ancestors to break a 300-year curse. Xerenyse has to stay hidden from the evil wizard for a year for the curse to be broken and to be turned back to her human form. Told from the point of view of a cat, it tells the tale of Xerenyse's interactions with humans. If you love cats, you'll love this book! Highly recommend!

First off, I wrote 4 star just to show I'm not a bot (call it paranoia). The read itself is interesting and I like the premise of the plot. Since it's added to my library I'll enjoy reading when available to do so. I do believe there's a language barrier/translation thing going on because some of the world building seems scattered so far.

It does continue to trail into the plot in between story building, but i.e. the early pages mentioned the protagonist walking on the bend of the road, embraced the beauty of an open field, dialogue, then mentioned a pathway randomly.

It makes sense over all, but it transitioned oddly, and I do believe it's just language barriers oddly.

Other than that, I am intrigued by the plot so far and aim to continue reading further (as I am a slow reader) on my own time.

This book has all the elements of a great witchy story. Xerenyse is a witch who is trying to hide from Morverio who is trying to steal her powers. When she turned eighteen, her family decided that she would be safer as a cat. Turns out as a cat, she would meet someone very special. I won’t give a way the story but I really enjoyed reading the tale of Xerenyse.

A light, magical, easy read that makes you feel for its characters. An unlikely relationship forming in the weirdest but cutest way as well as an over bearing evil lord and a centuries old curse.

Xerenyse; The Witch Cat by A J Saunders is a wonderfully told story of a young girl growing up in a family of witches, and with a three-hundred year old curse requiring something very unusual of a teenage girl. The setting is well defined and the author does a remarkable job describing the metamorphosis of feelings Xerenyse is experiencing. All teenagers go through transformative change in attitude, likes and dislikes, clothing and makeup choices, etc - but change has a whole new meaning for this teenager. All the emotions you hope for in a well-written story - fear-joy-love-hate - it's all here as seen through the eyes and the senses of Gemma (everyone renames their pets) and the kind man who helped her as a cat and beyond. The authors have done a terrific job of world building and story telling in this fantasy. Highly recommended to fans of paranormal/fantasy adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!

I really enjoyed this enchanting tale of a young witch magically transformed into a cat to protect her from Morverio, an evil shapeshifter. Living rough in the forest, Xerenyse is rescued by Tristan, who takes her home and names her Gemma. Xerenyse is wonderfully portrayed in her feline form and anyone who’s lived with cats will recognise their traits in Gemma. Her relationship with Tristan is very touching, accurately reflecting the close bond that can form between owner and pet, with the added twist that Xerenyse/Gemma has retained her human faculties and understands everything Tristan says. Not even Estelle, Tristan’s girlfriend, can come between them, though her attempts to oust Gemma give the story an extra frisson of tension. In some ways, Estelle, with her complex psyche, is an even more intriguing antagonist than Morverio. This romantic fairytale is cute and unusual, with vivid descriptions that make the story come alive. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates a well-paced, eloquently written fable with an engaging heroine and a satisfying conclusion.

This was a lovely "tail" of magic and mystery. Witches, shape-shifters, spells, and curses - all woven into a story that keeps the reader hooked until the very end.
Who knew it was so tricky being turned into a cat?
    There's so much to learn!

Perfect YA read, a wonderful book to escape into for a while. Well done to the authors.
I'd definitely recommend this for YA readers who enjoy fantasy, magic and adventure.

An intriguing tale of witches, family unity and ancient mythical beliefs.
Seventeen-year-old witch, Xerenyse, learns that she must be transformed into a cat if she is to survive the year ahead. A curse shrouded her, cast by the wicked sorcerer, Morverio, who was out to kill Xerenyse before her next birthday arrived.

This was an unusual and entertaining, part animal fiction story, and one that I really enjoyed.
I could see my twelve-year-old granddaughter enjoying this story. It was full of imagination with just the right amount of threat, magic, shapeshifters, and light-hearted moments.
I especially enjoyed the interaction between the kind Tristan and Gemma his newfound companion, the cat, Xerenyse in disguise.

I won’t say anymore, except to add, read this book and find out what happens to Xerenyse.
    Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cats rule!

Xerenyse the Witch Cat wouldn’t be my usual genre but, as a cat lady, I was intrigued enough to read it. I loved it. I loved how the author showed us how Xerenyse thought, both as herself and as Gemma the cat, and both her human personality was there along with her cat persona. She even fancied Tristian while she was curled up beside him on the sofa!
Of course, there’s a reason Xerenyse is now a cat. It’s to prevent her being sacrificed once she turned eighteen. Along with Tristian, her ghostly family, and his grandmother, they set out to stop the wicked Morverio and save Xerenyse’s life.
This is an excellent tale. Full of action and suspenseful moments, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Xerenyse by A J Saunders tells the story of a young witch who at the age of eighteen is turned into a cat to save her from a wicked sorcerer, Morverio.
The author has done a wonderful job describing the transformation from girl to cat and her escape from the sorcerer. I laughed out loud when she decided to become a vegetarian rather than eat the mouse. There’s so much more going on to keep you engrossed in this story.
    An interesting and enjoyable read!
