They say the age difference between partners doesn't really matter. But what if the gap is four centuries?
Widowed Andrew MacIver has problems and responsibilities aplenty. At twenty and five, he is already chieftain of his large clan. His castle is in a state of disrepair, his cook is clueless and to make matters worse, his uncle appears dead set on taking his job. He doesn’t have time to admit he is lonely, but he does need to remarry – and quickly, for the clan expects their laird to have a wife and heirs. He needs the perfect noble lady, decorous, competent, and obedient. The upcoming clan gathering seems the perfect opportunity to renew allegiances, find a suitable bride and get married, in that order. Well…that was the plan, anyway. But then the fae got involved.
Loveable geek Paisley Evangeline Darling – Van to her friends – wants one last adventure before going off to complete her master’s degree in mechanical engineering like her hero Tony Stark. On the very first night at the SCA renaissance festival, she is snatched kicking and screaming back to 17th century Scotland, nearly drowning in the process. Andrew, her handsome rescuer, is stressed out and intent on helping her find her way home, but she is having way too much fun to leave. Who better than a smart, free spirited and independent 21st century lass to bring a little love and laughter back into the exasperated laird’s dull life? After all, what could possibly go wrong?
Caution: Contains meddlesome faeries, questionable inventions, culinary miracles, one ferocious dragon, a heroine with zero regard for convention, and a reluctant hero with his hands full.

About the author

Shannon MacLeod lives next to an abandoned theme park. A proud member of Romance Writers of America and PAN, her Celtic romantasies include the award winning Embrace the Lace, Rogue on the Rollaway, The Celtic Knot: Suit of Cups (Arcana Love I), The Gypsy Ribbon: Suit of Wands (Arcana Love II), available from Kensington Books. Her tales are filled with strong heroes and heroines, interesting locales, colorful secondary characters, a touch of magick and mystery, loads of quirky humor, a body count, and absolutely no sparkly vampires.
Writing as her evil twin, The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread: Cutting to the Chase and the Shadowfox Tarot companion book (as Jennifer Shadowfox) available from Schiffer Publishing.
When not writing, she lives a life of servitude to three spoiled cats and one entitled German Shepherd dog. She loves rainy days, good music, and long hours spent gazing at her beloved ocean. An avid wearer of boots regardless of season and dangerously high heels, she watches Lord of the Rings more than any sane person should and can, in fact, reenact entire battle scenes using interpretive dance. Her spirit animals are the Honey Badger and Gordon Ramsay.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2024I saw this book on Amazon and the cover caught my eye (of course LOL) so I decided to take a chance even though I didn’t know the author. I am so glad I did! This book was a laugh out loud riot from start to finish with a great romance and a magical mystery. And the fairies are involved! It is set in the Scottish highlands where a thoroughly modern lass turns the castle upside down and even though the laird is bewildered at times, he finds himself falling in love with the strange woman. The ending was perfect! I liked that there was a pronunciation guide for the Gaelic used in the book and the author talked about some of the research that went into it. This story was awesome and I’m now reading another one of Ms. MacLeod’s called Rogue On The Rollaway which I like as much as this one! My new favorite author!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2024Van is suddenly flaying in a pond, only to be rescued by a Scottish laid. Andrew has no idea how the lass in pants ended up in his pond but he's captivated by her. Andrew's uncle believes he should be laird and will do everything in his power to take over the clan.
Van brings humor and a lot of novel ideas to the clan. The characters and the story were well written with medaling from the fae. It was mostly what I expect in a time travel novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2024The theme and premise of this fabulous imaginative story is so original and enthralling. I loved the setting of this Scottish romantic historical fiction . The story is well-written with expression, skill and thoughtfulness and is richly described with beauty and depicted with an atmospheric Scotland setting. The story is a combination of historical fantasy, romance, time-travel adventure and action.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2023This book is a marvelous blend of 17th century Scotland and present day. I loved the zany main character—she’s an unabashed hot mess and I found that so endearing. This romance is a beautiful slow simmer that won’t disappoint!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2024I normally don't like time travel tropes, but the story was good. I found myself wanting to know what happened next, where's the epilogue? Thanks Goodreads for the ARC reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2024Embrace The Lace by Shannon MacLeod is a captivating tale that weaves together the threads of time, romance, and adventure in a rich tapestry of historical and futuristic elements. The novel presents a unique blend of genres, combining the allure of historical Scotland with the intrigue of time travel and the warmth of a blossoming romance.
The story revolves around Andrew MacIver, a 25-year-old widower and chieftain of his clan, burdened with the weight of leadership and the quest for a love that echoes his parents' bond. His life takes an unexpected turn when Paisley Evangeline Darling, affectionately known as Van, a modern-day woman with a passion for adventure and a brilliant mind for mechanical engineering, is thrust into his world from the future.
Shannon MacLeod's storytelling is lauded for its sensory stimulation, creating a vivid picture of 17th-century Scotland with a modern flair, a touch of fantasy and sci-fi.

This story was so much fun! A time travel, historical romance, this was a wild trip back in time with intrigue in abundance and a lot of laughter…
Of course, it’s quite serious when Andrew’s leadership of his clan is threatened so that always percolated in the background. At the same time, Van, surprisingly, fit right in to the castle with her modern outlook and curiousity. She asked lots of questions and soon became personally invested in Andrew’s home and life. And of course Andrew was a hero of the first order…
The book was full of historical charm, a thick Scottish brogue and dragons and faeries (oh my!) as the pair figured out their future and each other… Loved it!
*I happily reviewed this story

- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2024I loved the characters!! I connected with all of them right off the bat, and was hooked on the story from page 1. Van's independent nature, and her mouthy attitude, reminded so much of myself when I was young. Even all the surrounding characters are well rounded, and easy to connect with. The excellent job with creating the perfect evil Uncle Alistair, so easy to dislike him, and hope Karma bites his butt.
I was gifted a Kindle version of this book, but the review is freely given, and my honest opinion.
This if the first time in awhile I have given 5*'s on a Time-travel Romance, and this is the first time I've read one of her books--but will NOT be the last!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!! Does NOT disappoint!!
Welcome back, Shannon Macleod!
Andrew is a Scottish laird, young and widowed, and his clan want him to remarry. Van is attending her first SCA gathering. With a little help from the fae, she is sent back in time to 17th century Scotland by way of a moonlit pool, and completely turns Andrew's life (and that of his clan) upside down. If you love time travel with a bit of fae magic, and braw lusty Scotsmen, you'll love this.
