4.7 out of 5 stars 46 ratings

In the heart of Souls River, where whispers linger and secrets fester, the quaint town is shaken to its core when a blood-spattered farm becomes the stage for a chilling mystery.

All eyes turn to Gus Olson, a hardworking man with a reputation tarnished by the disappearance of the captivating waitress, Annabelle.

As law enforcement and the tight-knit community unite in their conviction of Gus as the ruthless killer, a lone defender emerges in the form of a dedicated attorney. Faced with countless dead ends and a town brimming with suspicion, the tenacious lawyer, Horace Van Zinga, embarks on a relentless quest to unearth the truth and prove Gus's innocence.

Amidst the mounting pressure, the prosecuting attorney from Whisper County remains resolute, armed with what he believes is enough incriminating evidence to secure a conviction. Circumstantial threads weave a complex tapestry, leaving the defense attorney standing at the precipice of the courtroom.

Will Gus enter his trial with hopeless despair, succumbing to the weight of the accusations, or will prevailing faith guide him through the shadows of doubt?

In this gripping Christian thriller, faith and justice collide as the battle for truth unfolds in the most unexpected of places. Prepare for a riveting tale where the pursuit of justice becomes a spiritual journey, and the wounded soul of Souls River hangs in the balance.

Teresa E Nelson's first book, Tender Mercies for Tough Moments: A 31 Day Journey into the Blessings of God was released in 2017. With a degree in communications and a desire to help people in difficult circumstances, she has served her community as a high school and community adult teacher, a social service case manager, a nonprofit leader, a grant writer, and a benefit auctioneer.

No stranger herself to poverty and cancer, Teresa led her community in a faith based mission to help people with various needs, and also founded a support outreach for people living with the uncertainty and struggles of cancer. In 2003, Teresa received the Nonprofit of the Year Award for leading a regional care-giving organization to quality high service impact.

Teresa E. Nelson is currently the pastor of a small rural church where Scripture is taught and people are loved. She is inspired as she teaches Bible classes at the local corrections facility and in her community, and also as she preaches Sunday messages online. Her passion is for all people to enjoy a thriving, purposeful, and eternal relationship with God.

Her childhood days were spent on a farm where she observed the ways of farmers, animals, nature, and God. It was a special delight for Teresa to listen to the visitors who sat at her adoptive mother’s kitchen table, drank coffee, and shared their own unique stories. These times combined with experiences of her adult life was the background needed for the February 2021 release of her novel, "Whisper County".

She and her husband now share their lifetime of stories with their four wonderful adult children and their exceptional spouses, and nine precious grandchildren. Living in rural central Minnesota, they enjoy the wildlife roaming the fields, fishing, hunting, and of course, drinking coffee with their friends and neighbors at their own kitchen table.

"Whisper County" One of the Best Books I've ever read, I could not put it down
This book is phenomenal! I sat up late several nights reading, and anticipating what was next. I had the privilege to go to the book signing that the Author Theresa had at our local coffee shop. It was there that I purchased the book and was privileged to have it personally signed by Theresa. This book is full of mystery and suspense but very easy read and great for those that want to read a book that you could have your teens read and not have to worry about the content. Very well written! I would highly recommend this book.

I was expecting a regular kind of murder mystery when I first started this book. However, the small town, 1970 midwestern setting with its vernacular created a pleasant surprise for me. Nelson has created a timepiece from the not-so-distant past that creates a unique setting and storyline that is part murder mystery, part courtroom drama, and part Christian teaching. But, the best part is her ability to create characters that we can all relate to and grow to care about. She really hit the nail on the head bringing back the 1970's in small-town Minnesota. She is indeed a talented writer and I highly recommend it.

Whisper County was a fascinating read due to the believable characters who encounter incredibly funny, heart wrenching, sweet as well as unfair circumstances in their lives. Just when you think you have figured out what will happen next, the plot takes an unpredictable turn. It definitely is a mystery, but my favorite thing about Whisper County is that each character actually taught or reminded me of an essential truth about life. I totally empathized with many, while others made me ponder at their unique responses to lives that were not at all what they planned or expected. It is rare to find such a heartfelt yet entertaining book that keeps you trying to figure out just how the myriad of situations could ever be explained. I have already purchased several more copies and given them as gifts. L Jones

I loved this book! Teresa Nelson has crafted a well-written tale of mystery and suspense. The book's setting, a small Minnesota town, is chock full of quirky characters, humor and nostalgia. Whisper County is a story of faith, family, despair, betrayal and love. It kept me guessing until the very end.

Whisper County has great characters who struggle with their faith in the injustice of a man wrongly accused and convicted. Small town gossip and an egotistical prosecutor pulverized by strong and smart women and men with morality and conviction. Well written.

I grew up near a small town town in Minnesota about the time this was written, so many of the small town happenings made me smile. My Scandinavian Christian roots are strong, so the Evangelical bent of the believers in the book were not my experience, but I do appreciate reading books that have faith as a strong underlying current. This was a fun read for those who enjoy a mystery not heavy with violence and fear. I liked it very much.

When you find yourself drawn in so closely to a fictional character and catch yourself praying for him, Whisper County earns the page-turner rating. Each character is described so vividly, readers can relate with someone personally known, enabling scenes to be envisioned as reality, bringing in suspense, excitement, compassion and faith. Definitely a must read again and again.
