Legacy From Yesteryear: The Complete Story: A Clean Regency Romance Mystery Adventure Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 84 ratings

After years of waiting Legacy From Yesteryear is finally all in one digital book. We had to wait for Kindle to be able to handle the whole thing. Enjoy!

One family’s mystery leads to a legacy of secrets and hidden truths! As Meg works to uncover the treasures from yesteryear, her heart seeks her future with Jamie Cunningham. Can she solve the clues and find her heart’s desire, or will her cousin rip away her promising future?

Devastated by the loss of both of her beloved parents, eighteen-year-old Margaret Wentworth is given more bad news: she is destitute and must leave her London home to live with relatives she has never met. After burying both parents on the same day, Meg didn't think her future could get more bleak. Still, her cold reception and unpleasant interview with the Duke of Rochester at her new home, The Haven, provides a dim view of indefinite, unpaid servitude.

James Cunningham, the fifth son of the Duke of Sommerville, travels between clients and London when he meets Meg under duress. Ever the gentleman, he comes to her rescue only to fall head over heels himself. Since an official introduction was not offered, he uses other means to discover her plight.

Meg begins her duties with a heavy heart, only to discover her favorite cousin is coming to visit The Haven. After her cousin arrives, battle lines are drawn between Meg's cousins over who will determine her future. One will control her every movement and every aspect of her life, and the other will grant her freedom to live the life of her dreams. All Meg must do is solve a forgotten family mystery.

London, England - Winter 1810

At a time when women were not allowed control over their very existence, Margaret Wentworth lost everything of value to her. Helpless to make any decision without the approval of her guardian, the only option for any female was obedience unless she found a hero who would champion her cause.

An Unlikely Hero

James Cunningham follows the law, finding answers to otherwise impossible situations. He provides a listening ear, has a kind soul, and fights for what he believes in. Unbeknownst to Jamie, the Wentworth/Cunningham families have been intertwined for generations. As this story unfolds, he, too, is drawn irresistibly into the past to establish hope for the future as he cares for the families at The Haven.

This story is about the power of family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sommerville have taught their children the value of family, loyalty, and love. Each of their children have had the opportunity to marry for love, and several have. Jamie feels he has found "the one" for him and is willing to move heaven and earth if it means she will be his. This feeling grows every time he sees the tragedy and heartache in Meg's eyes. Just how far will he have to go for her love?

If you enjoy historical adventures with sweet romance happily ever after, then Legacy From Yesteryear is for you! Grab your copy today!

Welcome to my author page on Amazon!

To be honest, I never thought I would be an author. While going to school, English was my worst subject, next to phys ed. I was not an outdoor person, especially since I suffered from allergies and the medicines available would make me sleep until it was time to take the next dose. But I loved stories and books, so I read avidly all the mystery stories appropriate for my age. In my mind they played out like a movie.

Soon I was "directing" my own story movies in my head, with myself as the star of course. I daydreamed about being a princess from an unknown far away country or that a rich relative I never met left me their fortune. But it never crossed my mind to write them down, because silly things like grammar and spelling would slow me down or get in my way.

Years later this would all change. A close family friend introduced my co-author/mother and myself to Diana Gabaldon's time travel series that started with Outlander. We raced through all the books she had out in 2000 and discovered we had to WAIT for the NEXT one! Horrors!

I was married with children by that time, in fact I was pregnant with twins, when Mom and I were making yet another futile trip to the bookstore to see if the much awaited book was FINALLY OUT! Frustration overflowed and Mom griped, "What could possibly be taking SO LONG!"

My reply shocked us both: "So write your own story, if it's so easy!" She gaped at me, and when she could finally reply she said, "About what?!" All at once all the stories that played in my head came together as I snapped my reply that began a writing partnership I will treasure the rest of my life. We wrote our first manuscript that finished with a whopping 280,000+ words. After two years of attempted edits and unsatisfying critiques, we set that story aside and wrote Ethan's Flight.

Taking the lessons learned from our struggle with the first manuscript, Ethan's Flight was published April 2008. Sadly my co-author/mother passed away from complications with renal failure from diabetes in late 2009. I struggled with continuing a writing career without my partner for several years. Finally in late 2013 I was able to pick up a few of the pieces, connect with our mentor from Ethan's Flight, and begin editing the massive first manuscript.

With the support of my family, the encouragement and direction from my mentor, and the comfort, understanding and demands (When is the next book after Ethan's Flight coming out already?! Haven't I waited enough?!) from readers like you helped me take the steps necessary to pick up the pen and continue.

Thank you all so much! I appreciate you all more than you know. So, I have been working on the massive manuscript to attempt self-publishing and see if I can succeed with Legacy. If the response to this is everything I hope and dream, I will take back Ethan's Flight and release the second book as well. If I don't feel the response is the best for the series, I will continue with my current publisher. Either way, there will be a second book in the near future.

I would deeply appreciate reviews left for Ethan's Flight, and Legacy From Yesteryear and any future books. I am always thrilled to hear what others think and I am grateful to continue sharing my stories with you all.

Recently it has come to my attention that I have made a mistake. For those that have tracked me down on Facebook and e-mail, I apologize to you for the effort. I should have let everyone know I am working on Book 2 in the Legacy series.

When Mom and I originally wrote Legacy From Yesteryear, we had just finished the latest Diana Gabeldon in her Outlander series. We both loved a book with a serious amount of pages. So we took all the parts of a story we enjoyed the most and rolled them into one book. We tried the agent route and submitting it in as many places as we could afford, and were roundly rejected. So we set the story aside until we could find someone who had the chops to help us with the editing process.

After Mom passed away, I used the manuscript as a way to see if I was ready to begin again, because it needed so much work. Every time I attempted to edit I would fall to pieces and I would set it aside for a few months until I was ready to try again. It has taken me longer than I expected to work on this manuscript alone, but I was able to decide were to break it apart and make it a more acceptable size for those that are just being introduced to our writing. (For those that would have preferred the whole 325,000 word enchilada, I am sorry. I mean no insult to you. Believe me, I would rather have left it in one piece.)

Rest assured, I am working on the next book in the series. I apologize again for disgruntling so many of my new readers. I will communicate better with y'all from now on.

I liked this book but it definitely leaves you wondering what happens next. I guess that is the twist so you will continue to want more. I felt like it was a little slow going at some points and I was kind of disappointed at the end, but I want to read more.

Be aware there is no ending to this book and the reader is left with an unfinished mystery and an unresolved one sided love story. This is probably so the reader will keep buying subsequent books. I don't appreciate books that end like a cliff hanger in the last episode of a television series. This isn't even much of a cliff hanger, just an unfinished hunt for a variety of jewels from a long ago ancestor and an unresolved love interest.

I don't have a clue where the 5 star ratings come from unless they know the author. The plot did keep my interest, but the story is very wordy and gets bogged down with repetitive description. I found myself skipping over paragraphs that were just a repeat of what was described before. Editing would have been greatly appreciated. I put all this aside and slogged through to the end only to have the story just stop. Unfortunately it will go into my Kindle's "not great" collection. I wonder how many episodes, er I mean books to get the storyy finished?

This was an absolutely insane book. The search for family heirlooms, the love interest, the guardian of family members. This was just such an amazing regency romance. I was always waiting to see what happened next. I would love for their being more from these characters and this author.

I did love this book, however, I was a bit put off, by the abrupt stop to the story just when it was starting to get really interesting. Hense the reason for my rating! I can only assume that the reason for this is that there is soon to be a sequel, but there was no mention of this or when one was to be released when I downloaded the book. Which I thought was poor form....I should have looked a the reviews prior to reading.I will give a proper rating one I have read sequel.

This is the first of how many? It moved slowly, skipped back & forth between character's thoughts & action. There was no foul language, but there was no tension or suspense either. Lots of mention of women's equality issues. Maybe a very young girl would appreciate it.

I enjoyed the entire story as far as it went. I wanted to continue to find all the other jewels and to have the heroine happily married and in her own estate home.

I wasn't expecting the book to end halfway through the story, with absolutely nothing resolved. Needs editing, and at times slow, but would benefit from putting the whole story into one volume, or at least having some sort of climax at the end of this one to make me want to read on. As it is, I don't.

The storyline was good however there were many anachronisms in the language used. Many phrases were were modern in style and totally unsuitable for the period the novel was set in. I applaud the effort but it fell short of being a great read and instead was an ok read. The ending was strange and rather abrupt and whilst I appreciate that the author may be planning subsequent novels the conclusion was odd to say the least.
