Arrogant. Sexy. Reminiscent.
I felt all three about my newest client.
The moment I met the sexy club owner in need of a party planner, I soon realized why.
He was the one responsible for the most mortifying night of my life just one year earlier.
The faceless Dominant who had me thrown out when I was at my most vulnerable.
Beautiful. Innocent. Submissive
I knew the gorgeous blonde was off limits.
The moment I realized our connection, I was determined to hold her at arm’s length.
She’d gotten under my skin once, but never again.
That was much easier said than done once passion erupts between us at the masquerade party.
Addictive. Obsessive. Dangerous
As I deny my growing attraction for Charlotte, someone much more sinister develops his own deadly obsession with her.
Will I be able to conquer my own demons before my potential future is taken away from me?

- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2023This is a raw and primal BDSM romance with a killer on the loose in Denver Colorado. Keep in mind that some scenes are intense and then there are the killer’s thoughts and actions. In this book, Ms. Storm allows us to hear the killer’s thoughts and why he endeavors to cleanse Denver. His identity will surprise those around him.
Hawke at 27yo is opening a new BDSM club of his own in Denver. He enlists a party planner to set up for their grand opening. Unbeknownst to him, the owner of Platinum Dreams event planning company is none other than the submissive he dismissed in Washington, DC a year ago. He has secrets that prevent him from being fully open and engaged with a partner other than in a BDSM setting. That is until he re-meets Charlotte Maxwell. She’s feisty, beautiful, persistent and a submissive. Their attraction is off-the-charts, making this story the same. Heed the cautions. Like I already said, this is an intense albeit thrilling story. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2023A good romantic thriller with a story line that really roped me in. I did not see the killer coming. I loved Charlotte but I feel like she gave into Hawke so easy and Hawke kind of just got away with treating her harshly and she easily went back to him. Overall the book really had my attention and I kept trying to figure out who the killer way. I alsp really like Anise Storms writing!

5 out of 5 stars
The story Hawke (Men of Syn Book 1) by Anise Storm is a book that had me hooked from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Charlotte Maxwell and Nathaniel Hawke. Charlotte is a woman who is determined to be independent. She runs her own business. She realizes that her latest client is someone from her past. She finds him handsome however also if asked she would say he is rude and arrogant. Nathaniel is a man with a dark past. He also can’t stop thinking about Charlotte. She is different, makes him feel different. He knows that his wants her, he tries to keep her at arm’s length. Charlotte is determined to prove to Nathaniel that there is something between them. What does the future hold for Nathaniel and Charlotte? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. There are some very steamy scenes that will make the temperature in the room rise. There is also some moments that are suspenseful and had me wondering what was going to happen next. This is a book that you don’t want to miss out on. The characters are well-developed. I came to care about Charlotte and Nathanial with each chapter that I read. This is a story that I would recommend reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2023Now, this book had a good storyline, engaging characters and entertaining content. There was just something missing to make it be a 5 star read. It was also not completely smooth while making transitions and was quite repetitive.
I am voluntarily leaving a review after receiving an ARC.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2024It’s not very often I read a book where I’m completely thrown by what happens. Hawke is dark and untouchable but there is a piece of him wanting to be free. And boy does he do a great job of burying it. Well until Charlotte of course. So many twists and turns all of them leaving you breathless and needing more.
I enjoyed every moment of this. So many moving pieces but not so much that it was messy. Just enough to keep it interesting. Let me tell you, if this got turned into a movie I would be all in. 😍
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2024This is my first book that I have read by Anise Storm. I really enjoyed this story and read it in one night. I just wished the ending wasn't rushed and that we got more of how the relationship was going. Definitely reading the next book in the series now.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2019This book is the first in the series, Men of Syn. Nathanial Hawkins and Charlotte Maxwell are the characters in this wonderful book. The book starts out with Hawke opening a club in Denver. Charlotte is the party planner he hires to open the club on Valentine's Day. However, after Charlotte comes for the first meeting, she realizes she knows this man, and it was not a very good first impression. Things go downhill very fast, but not what Charlotte thinks she wants.
Brought up on completely different sides of the tracks, the two were like dark and light. With Charlotte's persistent ways and total devotion to Hawke, she drew him in even when he didn't want her too. With a horrid background, Hawke never thought he would be good enough for any woman let along someone like Charlotte. The chemistry between the two develops into a love/hate relationship. She can't understand his treatment of her and he can't figure out why she keeps coming back. In the end, the two find their way after a near disaster with Charlotte's life.
I enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it to all readers, especially those who enjoyed true BDSM. One of her best.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2019Once again Anise has captured my heart with her newest release, Hawke. This erotic thriller had me captivated from the start and now clamoring for more. The character development and background of the hero and heroine was amazing as we get too see how Anise made them feel so real. My heart broke for Hawke as he comes to terms with his demons and for Charlotte who only wants to understand what he's going through. Best of all the steamy sex scenes were oh so hot hot hot 🔥! If you're into sexy brooding Alpha men, strong stubborn heartwarming heroines, and naughty BDSM fun, all with a hint of murder mystery thrills added in, then this book is for you. This girl can't wait for book #2 in this series! 😉

4.0 out of 5 stars Hawke & Charlotte
Hawke is the first in a BDSM romance series, Men of Syn. Nathanial "Hawke" Hawkins is the owner of Syn, a BDSM club opening in Denver. He hires Charlotte Maxwell's company to plan the grand opening party. Neither of them realize at first that they actually know each other through a BDSM club in another city the previous year.
I did not like Hawke at first. He is abrupt, rude, and dismissive of pretty much everyone around him. I liked Charlotte immediately, and even though she is submissive in the bedroom, she is anything but outside of that. I liked her independence and fire. The chemistry between Hawke and Charlotte is real! They are like 2 objects being pulled together by gravity.
Overall, I liked the story, but there were a couple things I had a hard time with. The part in the hotel room made me uncomfortable and the speed at which feelings developed when there was so much conflict bothered me a bit. Despite that, I still liked the story and am glad I read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great read!
4 ½ Stars
Hawke is the first book in The Men of Syn Series by Anise Storm. This is my first read by Ms. Storm, so I really didn’t know what to expect going in. The blurb and cover intrigued me enough to want to read the book, so I took a chance and dove in. I am really happy that I did, because it is a really great romantic suspense- with an intense erotic element to it. The BDSM scenes are more ‘hardcore’ than you normally find in a romantic suspense- but the story isn’t ‘dark’ enough for me to categorize it as a ‘dark’ romance either. But be warned, there is some blood, references to self-harm, and horrific abuse… as well as lots of pain. The suspense part of the story is really well done, with plenty of danger and intrigue. But there is also an underlying story of seeking redemption, and ending torment.
Charlotte Maxwell is the owner of Platinum Dreams, an up and coming party planning business. She’s worked hard to make her business the success that it is- earning her the reputation as one of the best party planners that Denver has to offer. A year earlier she had decided to explore her submissive desires, with mortifying results. Now she finds herself at an appointment with a new client- only to discover that he’s the Dom behind her humiliating experience. But with a deranged killer right under their noses, and his sights set firmly on Charlotte, things are set to get quite intense. What happens next makes for an exciting read.
Charlotte is a great character I liked her a lot- she’s smart, beautiful, independent, and stubborn. She isn’t without some issues and insecurities, and that plays a part in the story. Nathaniel (Hawke) Hawkins is an intense, haunted character who has so much self-loathing. He’s broken and stuck in the past. I understand why he is the way he is, and I really feel for what he had been through. No one should ever have to experience what he endured. But he also frustrated me with his mixed messages, and all the push-pull- it drove me a little crazy.
The story is told from several POV’s- Charlotte’s, Hawke’s, and the serial killer’s- which builds a really great picture of what’s happening. There are some memories/flashbacks too, which helps to fill in all the backstory.
I am looking forward to book #2.
Thank you, Ms. Storm!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much description
Not really gripping. Too much on his hang ups and details on his past. Did not agree with his logic or her feelings for him.
