★★★★★Like other books by Tamara Ferguson, the story flows effortlessly and draws its audience in right from the first page. Though Sam and Heather's relationship was swift, it still feels authentic. There are many hair-raising scenes in the story which were well woven into the main plot. I loved that the lead characters are fleshed out with pasts that help explain the torment they are battling. Their stories are also original and they explore essential themes which include PTSD, sexual violence, anguish and grief after loss, and childhood trauma. My Everyday Hero - Sam is an immersive romance novel and a great addition to Ferguson's work. A sleuth mystery element to the story adds to the intrigue, and you find yourself hooked to the pages trying to guess what will happen next. Sam and Heather's relationship becomes even stronger after they bond over their traumatic pasts, as each understands where the other is coming from. This is a thrilling story, and the characters that appear are used to the best advantage. The story has some light moments, some wow moments, and some nail-biting moments. The ultimate twist in the tale leaves the reader wondering if they will ever find out what happened to the evil man and his friends. This is a fast-moving book but a must-read if you are into suspenseful mysteries. I really enjoyed this book, and it is just the type of book someone who loves to read would enjoy. It’s set in Crystal Rock, Wisconsin where Heather Janson has become a nurse trainee at the wounded warrior home and has managed to keep hidden dark secrets of her youth. Due to those secrets, she has strived to avoid forming close relationships with anyone.

    Sam Wellman, an injured Air Force pilot, enters a bar while Heather is serving drinks. They share a pitcher of beer. Even though there are long moments of silence between them, they become drawn to each other. From Sam’s nightmares, Heather knows he’s suffering from more than the physical injuries he sustained in Iraq. As their romance grows, Sam learns that Heather also has dark secrets.

    Heather constantly worries that Sam will be in danger if the wrong person hears about her relationship with him. She wants Sam to be a permanent part of her life. Soon she discovers that she is also in danger. Can Heather and Sam openly reveal their devastating childhoods and find a way to escape their predator?

    This is a well-crafted, suspenseful love story about two people overcoming the haunts of their pasts and finding love and trust in a blossoming relationship. Highly recommended!

Jack is Sam's brother and they are working on repairing their relationship. The past is coming back to Sam as he tries remember what happened when his father was killed.

    It's a touchy subject, one that hits very close to home, and it's nice to have it voiced if only in fiction. Sexual child abuse can ruin your life, it's no joking matter. The wounded warrior books have all been great stories.

    I loved the story. Heather was a survivor plus. Sam came back from Afghanistan with memories that were hard to live with that were added to abuse at an early age.
