A marriage arranged for freedom…
Saxon beauty Lady Jillian and her mother lost everything when her father fell at Hastings beneath a Norman blade. Forced into a life of servitude, she accepts her life until her mother dies. Without the worry of protecting her mother, she looks for a way to change her circumstances and no longer live as a slave to the lady of the keep. When renowned warrior Garrick of Merewood’s brother is imprisoned at the keep, Jillian hatches a bold plan to offer marriage in exchange for helping to free his brother. Marriage to him will set her free while his strength and prowess will help her reclaim her birthright—Loughmoe Keep. She never expects to fall in love.

A dowry not of gold, but honor…
Garrick needs no help freeing his brother, and he refuses the bold beauty’s plan. But treachery abounds, and to save his brother’s life, he must swallow his pride and seek Jillian’s assistance. After they wed he learns that Loughmoe Keep is no longer hers. Rumors of her duplicity threaten to tear them apart, while sinister forces are at work threatening to destroy them. Jillian and Garrick’s mother are captured, and a ransom is demanded.

Garrick of Merewood’s people need the coin to survive another winter; he cannot pay the ransom. He must devise a plan to rout the baron responsible for the kidnapping and ransom. He needs to rescue them to free his mother and the woman he fell in love with, before the greedy baron steals Loughmoe and Merewood Keep.

If we have not met yet, I’m delighted to meet you! Here’s a little bit about me…

I have been writing romance novels for almost half my life, well at least for the last 30 years. I’m a diehard romantic and have to confess the broad shoulders and wicked glint in the brilliant green eyes of a stranger had my breath snagging in my breast, my heart beating madly, and my future flashing before my eyes. At the age of seventeen, I’d met the man I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

I write Historical & Contemporary Romance featuring characters that I know so well: hardheaded heroes and feisty heroines! They rarely listen to me and in fact, I think they enjoy messing with my plans for them. Over the years I have learned to listen to them! I have always used family names in my books and love adding bits and pieces of my ancestors and ancestry in them, too!

Reading this book was almost like coming home as C.H. Admirand introduces us to the ancestors of the heroes found in her Duke's Guards series. Yet her hero and heroine, Garrick and Jillian, are also familiar - strong, capable, and filled with honor and love overflowing. It is the trials and misunderstandings they encounter that bring this story to life, surrounded by their friends and family. I can't wait to read the next book!

It's 1072, and there is still unrest between the Saxons and Normans.
Lady Jillian is a ward and a slave to the man that was supposed to protect her. An opportunity for escape comes when she liberates Garrick of Merewood's
brother. A promise of marriage, kidnapping and lies feed on keeping Jillian and Garrick apart. Garrick's mistrust and guilt are the biggest issues in the book. Jillian is the one constantly abused, mentally and physically. One tough read. Descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.

This story is about a troubled Warrior Garrik of Merewood, thinking he could not love anyone. Trying to rebuild Merewood, thinking of the winter and worry about how they all would have food to eat. His brother had been captured by Owen Lord of another Castle. Jillian was Owen ward after the Normans resides and conqured over the Saxons. Jillian was abused and beaten by Owens wife, but was loving young woman, she everyone loved. She went to to Garrick to see if he would marry her if she could free his brother Rodrick. Together they found love after being captured, mistreated, and injured.

The author of this new series is phenomenal and amazingly talented. Set in the 11th century, she has combined the results of the battle of Hastings with a bittersweet romance between Jillian and Garrick. Included in the story of redemption, guilty, deceit, heroism and honor you will find characters of great strength and determination. Like wasn't easy for anyone during those times and distrust was common place. Power was everything and women were used as trading cards to gain or take more power. Jillian demonstrates that while her body may be weak, her determination is beyond strong. Garrick, must make choices that have long term implications and possibly pain for those he loves. All in all a truly moving story, many different characters and a look at life now passed. My favorite person out of this story is MacInness, I'm hoping he gets a story of his own.

    2.75 STARS - ROUNDED UP

I didn't care for the H throughout most of the story. His reasons were repetitive and the way he treated the h was heart wrenching. I couldn't understand why the h fell in love with him because he didn't deserve it. I wanted her to be with the Scot who was her protector. Why wouldn't her protector go with her when she was going to be traveling 2 weeks to London?

Many timeframes didn't add up. I felt like I was missing chapters or something. I went back and read some reviews, and another reviewer felt the same. Then we have the relationship the youngest daughter of the h's guardian. That storyline just popped up out of nowhere. I felt at times, I was coming into the middle of a thought, hard to feel a connection to the story or characters.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, suspense at times, many villains, HEA - never thought we'd get one, violence, and steam level 3+ out of 5. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the strength of the h, you could see her grow.

I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)

We go right back to William the Conqueror's riegn in this story. At a time when the Saxons had to either bow to the new King or lose everything.
Our heroine lost everything, her lands being held by the King. Now supposedly an heiress and ward to a neighbouring Lord. She is no more than a beaten down servant.
Our hero kept his lands but not the means to keep his people from starving. All he has are his brothers and their abilities.
This is an action packed story with great characters. You will need the tissues occasionally and there are some vicious battles and descriptions of gory deaths.
It is the first book in a new series and I will definitely be reading the rest. If, like me, you are a fan of this author you might see some familiar character names. These must be their ancestors because there are hundreds of years between them.
    I loved it.

In an era when women were shifted around like pawns on a chess board, easily picked up, disposed of, and abused at will, it takes courage and determination to quietly win their battles. I found this novel incredibly emotional and felt a certain amount of anger when Garrick vacillated from one extreme to the other so that it was only when it seemed that the best thing that ever happened to him was about to be taken away that he realized the error of his ways. Jillian, on the other hand, wins loyal friends even amongst her enemies, as she bears up under the harsh treatment of the family who were supposed to protect her, and is a friend to those in the same predicament as herself. The novel is violent and gory in places, but it does come to a lovely conclusion, despite the odds against the couple. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
