Four Doubt: A Silas McKay Suspense (Silas McKay Suspense Series Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 235 ratings

A cybersecurity executive is murdered. Was it a random shooting, or a targeted killing?
It’s up to Silas McKay, chief investigator for Discreet Corporate Security Services, to find out.

When Silas is asked to investigate the murder of Sherwood Fenton, he discovers there are already two suspects.

The widow believes the owner of a rival software company killed her husband . . .
She claims he threatened to get revenge on Sherwood during a heated argument.

The police believe Sherwood’s murder was a gang-related shooting . . .
The homicide detectives are focused on a teenager with a facial tattoo who was seen running from the scene.

Silas believes they’re both wrong . . .
He’s looking at a third suspect, someone who’s been hiding in plain sight.

As Silas works through the investigation, he’s also dealing with his budding romantic relationship with Ashley Davenport, the amusing—sometimes not so amusing—antics of his new puppy, and the ever-present conflicts between the eclectic members of his investigative staff.

When Silas finally identifies the real killer, he learns a second murder is being planned, and as he tries to protect the victim, he confronts the killer in a high-stakes encounter where the outcome is anything but certain.

If you love a gripping, emotion-packed mystery, where characters are grappling with issues of faith and doubt while confronting professional challenges and personal danger, then you’ll love
Four Doubt, Book 4 in the Silas McKay Suspense Series.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Welcome to a fascinating and intelligent Christian suspense series from a well-loved, creative author. You will instantly be intrigued by Silas McKay, his co-workers,his boss, and their unique cases. I highly recommend . . ." An Amazon Reviewer.

"Luana writes with detail and intelligence and makes the reader feel like they are in the scene. Her faith shines through in each story. Her characters, however, are just as flawed as we are, struggling with real life and what that looks like in the context of their beliefs of who Jesus Christ is." --An Amazon Reviewer.

This one has a more plodding pace than perhaps some of the others, but it is by no means boring. It's just a more steady pace, which is a more realistic depiction of an actual investigation. Nevertheless, in spite of a very full and busy week, I read it within 24 hours and eagerly looked forward to each opportunity to pick back up again. (And I still got 8 hours of sleep! 😉)
The various characters and their personality idiosyncrasies enable the reader to feel as if they'd know them if they met and would be able to interact accordingly with this inside scoop knowledge. The team's approach to investigation--playing to their strengths, giving grace in other areas--makes each book deeper, richer and more satisfying in their conclusions.
The next in the series promises to be an interesting and exciting one, perhaps harkening back to some of the other series?
As always, great job, Ms Luana!

This is the fourth book in the series and the fifth won’t come out until Summer 2025, so keep that in mind when the author’s catchphrase is “Never the end, always the beginning.” There is very little romance and a lot of the fine details into solving a crime. It’s relatively easy to figure out who did it, just finding evidence is difficult.

Other people can summarize plot in their reviews. I prefer to comment on what makes the book "special to me. I have currently read all of Luana Erhlich's published books. I have no personal experience with Private Investigators, FBI, CIA, or other agencies and very little with police and military in their work life. I am a person with an inquiring mind . The flow of life in these books just seems more normal/ realistic than a lot of other mysteries I read. Sometimes you have lots of questions and what seem to be pieces of the puzzle aren't. Things progress slowly and you seem to be repeating yourself. People who appear important drop out of sight without contributing much. Then all at once things fit together so fast it is hard to keep up. To me this is real. I read a lot of different genres, but this is home.

Like so many others I have read all of the authors books. Once you read one you have to get them all. I have to say that I particularly enjoyed this book. Luana is such a good story teller! For a pastor's wife she sure knows a lot about spies and detectives and investigators. I too wish her books were longer but I am and always will be a fan of her stories. Can't wait for the next one! Please keep writing Luana!
