A collection of original poems and short stories featuring the winners of the 2024 Rockaway Writers Rendezvous, an annual writing event in Rockaway Beach, Oregon USA.

The magic of writing and the mysterious journey it takes is on! It truly is the evolution of a writer’s soul.

We build the characters from our hearts, experiences, and observations of the world around us, pouring our minds and souls into every word. Then, we stress about being technically correct, about being authentic, and about connecting with the reader. As the creative process begins, our subconscious prays that we do not run into the brick wall called writer’s block!

Sitting in a coffee house with my friends, Cosmo Jones, Don Backman, and Neal Lemery, I told them, of all the scholarships I received, the only one I remember was the smallest one for $179. I received it by winning a poetry contest sponsored by a local writers’ group. It wasn’t the amount or the beaming faces of the ladies as they presented the check to me. It was Beth leaning in and saying, “You’re one of us now, you’re a writer.”

I continued telling the guys, the recognition that I am a writer and a peer has helped me traverse many a brick wall. I wished we still had a writer’s group here in town. We sipped on our coffees in silence, looking at each other. A few seconds later, we all said, “Let’s do it!”… and that, my friends, is how the Rockaway Writers Rendezvous came to be!

Our dream is to inspire creativity and recognition for aspiring writers of all ages. We aim to raise scholarship funds for Neah-Kah-Nie High School students pursuing writing careers.

After much hard work from a generous volunteer team, we are pleased to present the first Rockaway Writers Rendezvous Anthology.
