"QUEEN OF ALPHA MALE CHARACTERS!" - Slashed Reads
Victoria's signature humor ("Everybody was staring at me because I was on the subway in fits of laughter and couldn't stop!") creeps into each and every book whether she intends it or not. But the heart of Victoria's books is romance, the real kind that often begins with slow burn then lasts and lingers like a charge in the air. Forever.
The rich characterizations and quirky personalities that readers so often comment about come from being a lifelong student of behavior - casually (love to people watch), and a serious student of behavior academically. She has also studied comparative religion, myths, and Dark Ages history.
Victoria lives in The Woodlands, Texas with her husband and a very smart, mostly black German Shepherd dog.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2025Another great read by Victoria. You follow the Campbell family from their escape from Scotland to the states and the future generations. Cameron is accused of with craft so they must flee.
Her world building skills are amazing. Wished some of these short stories were a little longer. Quick reads, quite enjoyable.
I shouldn't have been surprised,. Her Black Swan series is also a great bunch of books.
Always a pleasure to read her books.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2025I didn’t know this was a book of short stories when I bought it. Each story was wonderful and I was hooked each time. Brilliant!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2024Absolutely love everything written by Victoria Danann and this book didn't fail. I definitely recommend reading this!!
In 1687 John Campbell, his wife, Cameron, and their two daughters, left Scotland because Cameron was suspected of witchcraft. These 7 stories are tales of generations of Campbells living their lives with the craft or some variation of it.
Fabulous read!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2024Loved this new book and all of the stories. Victoria has done it again. It reminds me of old stories that people tell around a campfire bout mysterious things that happen to them with no explanation of how it happened. It is an easy and intriguing read. Takes you to a place of wonder and magic. Love getting to experience these stories and feeling like I am right in the mix. Can’t wait to see what she writes next.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2024I have waited for this book for a while and I am not disappointed! Dannon is back and in her prime! Each story held my interest and like any great story I pushed for the ending but immediately wished it would go on much more. This is a wonderful group of short stories! I could see each one continuing to a full novel. Make yourself a gift and get The Witching Hour right now!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2024I was drawn in to each story and loved each one. I loved how each story had the thread of connection to each other with the Campbell name. I sometimes can't it use that I lock Ms. Danann in a cave and force her to write until I get my fill. Thank you for my favorite stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2024I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve read Victoria Danann’s books before, but it’s been a while. I like to mix books, authors, but lovely stories remind me I need to find several of hers that I’ve stashed in my to-be-read pile.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2024Very dull. I bailed out halfway.
