Then, something magical happens. One day a mysterious ornament appears on the pear tree outside her window —and others follow for each of the 12 days leading up to Christmas, a tradition started by her late husband. But who’s behind this thoughtful gesture? And why now?

A Partridge in Sunshine Bay is a beautiful holiday read that pulled at my heartstrings and left me a tear-stained mess.

I really enjoyed learning about Vivian and the amazing life and love she and her husband shared. Carrying on after he passed away is the hardest thing Vivian has to do, and she doesn’t want to. Drowning in grief, it takes family, friends, and a few surprises to remind Vivian of her purpose and help recapture her holiday spirit.

The characters are easily relatable and the storyline is heartwarming and hopeful. I’d definitely visit Sunshine Bay again.

While the holiday season brings happiness and joy to many, for others it’s a tough time of year. Whether it’s grieving a loss, remembering a hurtful past, or when loneliness is at its loudest. This story recognizes that pain and repurposes it into hope.

I highly recommend A Partridge in Sunshine Bay to all readers.

I read a NetGalley ARC, this is my honest review.

This book is really great. It is really sad at times and gives us a glimpse of how it is when you become older. A lot of times your spouse might have passed away before and you miss his companionship, your kids do not come and visit. They might call you but even the one that lives in the same town as you rarely visits. You rarely get to see the grandkids but love it when you do. The kids say they hate to see me so sad. I get them depressed when they come to see me. All excuses! I know their lives are busy and I do not want all of their time, just share some time with me please. Include me in some of your activities, even if is just taking me with you to go grocery shopping. Give me something to live for please.

Here it is almost Christmas time again. My husband uses to love Christmas and everything about it. The decorating, the shopping for gifts, wrapping the presents, the dinners where all of the family gets together. But this year he is gone, he passed of cancer right after Christmas last year. So this year I can just not face it without him. I feel like I have lost everything including the will to live. I have a housekeeper that comes in to do the cleaning but she is not doing her job properly.

My daughter, the one that lives here in town is going with her husband on vacation. Her sister is coming to be with me and my grandson will be here too as he has school and can not go on vacation right now. Their dog Neville is going to be staying with one of my neighbors. Such a cute little dog but he always seems to get under people's feet.

Vivian has totally lost all of her Christmas spirit and spends a lot of time just staring out of the window. It seems as if she is just waiting to die. Her daughter, grandson and a few neighbors make it their mission to bring her back to us. Just get her involved in what she loves to do, her grandson asks her to give him cooking lessons. And the magical thing that happens is gifts start appearing on her door step. One a day for the 12 days of Christmas. Does she have a secret admirer? Who is the mystery gift giver?

I read this because the FMC in the description shared my name, and that's such a rarity that I simply HAD to support the author.
This is an ARC review, but the opinion is my own, freely, and honestly, given with no incentives.

As the title says, this is a multifaceted tapestry of intermingling storylines and characters that are all related, but woven together beautifully. I'm afraid to spoil anything if I dive in, but I'll try 😅

Claudia and Alex have their lives in the city, but are they really happy anymore?
Vivian takes a life altering fall, and is struggling with grief and depression.
Karen is overwhelmed with taking care of her mom after losing her dad and nearly losing her husband, so takes off to Mexico, calling Claudia in at the last possible moment to care for their mom.

Family secrets, old hurts, grief, an ex boyfriend with questionable motives, and anonymous gifts make for a beautifully woven tapestry of familial love and community support that reminded me of the old hallmark Christmas movies.

It was a very good read. I didn't realize it was so short, honestly. It was so descriptive and immersing. A nice afternoon (or midmorning in my case) read.

Loved the book was a great read

Vivian has lost her husband earlier in the year, and has no Christmas spirit and is depressed as her husband had loved Christmas. Her daughter, uncertain about her long time relationship, comes to visit and help Vivian after a serious fall. There is a lot going on in this novel, with Christmas ornaments appearing, an old flame next door who is attracting Claudia's attention, a trouble finding visiting dog next door… but it all comes together in a wonderful way at the end, making for a sweet and enjoyable Christmas tale.

Thank you to Book Sirens for the opportunity to read and review this novel.

How do you face the favorite holiday seasons following the death of a beloved spouse? Vivian has become reclusive and a bit depressed. As one daughter takes a vacation with her family, the other daughter has been called home to care for her mother in the interim.
A lovely story of multi-generational family and friends working together to ease the season for Vivian. A great addition to your seasonal reads!
I was provided with a copy of the book by Hidden Gems; this review is my honest opinion
