Only A Rake Will Do: A Steamy Friends to Lovers Regency Romance Kindle Edition
Grace Snowdon knows what she wants in a husband: a man who is handsome, a good kisser, love, and a rake. Determined to find the perfect match during her debut season, Grace won’t settle for anything less—especially not the steady, far-too-proper Earl of Sidmouth.
Arthur Osborne, Earl of Sidmouth, has loved Grace since the moment he saw her. His plan to woo her with romance and devotion seemed foolproof—until he discovered she craves something far more fiery. Determined to prove he can be everything she desires, Arthur steps up his game, risking it all to show Grace that love is more than a checklist.
As Arthur brings the heat, Grace begins to question everything she thought she wanted. Will she recognize the perfect man standing right before her—or will her search for passion blind her to the love she’s always needed?
Note: This is quick, steamy short with 3+ explicit scenes, and a family who has awkward conversations and walks in on each other!

About the author

Christina Diane is an award-winning, bestselling author who loves to write super spicy, fast paced stories for the modern reader in the genres of historical romance and dark romance. Her historical romances are all set in the Regency era, with creative liberty taken within the historical setting to create a passionate, hot, intriguing story. Across all of her works, if you love combinations of high spice, witty banter, spirited heroines, forbidden romances, darker themes, and hot alpha men...then you are in for a treat! Because bad boys never go out of style!
She is a hybrid indie and traditionally published author with Dragonblade Publishing, Romance Cafe, and And You Press. She reads mostly spicy Regency romances and all shades of dark romances, as well as thrillers.
Christina lives in Northern Maine with her husband and two boys. Her family also includes their three French bulldogs who go everywhere with them, as well as two solid black cats. The entire family is always up for new adventures. When she is not writing or chasing after her family, she usually has a Kindle in her hand!
Her writing journey began at the age of nine when she created her own comic strip, Grizzly Grouch. In adulthood, she was a freelance writer for several years, mostly writing lifestyle pieces for blogs. She found that she couldn’t stop thinking about stories and characters, so much that she had to get them on the page! Christina frequently has dreams of random character ARCs that go into a massive list of planned writings. She currently has more than ten series just waiting to be written!
Aside from her family, writing, and books, she loves Bridgerton, the Grinch, Jessica Rabbit, horror movies, Chucky dolls, cold brew, yoga, Hamilton, the color pink, and speaking in obscure quotes from movies and TV shows.
Christina loves chatting with her readers and talking about great reads, so please contact her on socials! She’d love to hear what you think about her books and what you’d love to see more of!

When mains are first on page together: Not too far in, 24% (chapter 2 of 8) but it’s a short story so it doesn’t feel as long as 24% in haha
Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: Yes, 2 months later
Should I read in order?
I believe this is Diane’s debut, and it’s fine to read alone!
Basic plot:
Grace is focused on finding someone that meets her qualifications for a husband – handsome, good kisser, love, and a rake – and she is missing what’s right in front of her.
Give this a try if you want:
- Regency – 1817
- bespectacled hero
- hero loves first
- midnight window knocks
- unrequited longing
- shorter story
- higher steam – 3 full scenes within a shorter page count
Ages:
- hero is 24, the heroine is around 18
My thoughts:
I enjoyed this quick and spicy read! I thought it was pretty cute and I am a sucker for any kind of unrequited love, especially from a hero.
In this novel, our heroine Grace gets a bit too focused on her requirements for a husband. I loved how Arthur shows her what’s right next to her and how wonderful it can be – even if he’s not the rake of her dreams. And I’m always swooning for midnight window knocks 🫠 🫠
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2025If you are looking for a quick, sweet, but also spicy read, this checks all of the boxes. If you are looking for a backstory, romance, and character growth, this was not the purpose of this book. I did enjoy it for a palate cleanser between some heavier reads. The story flows quickly to a HEA.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2024This Regency-era romance novella from Christina Diane is a wonderful, quick read for anyone who's looking for a low-angst, he-falls-first, open-door romance. The spice is pitch perfect and Arthur is so sexy! I'm a big fan of Christina's projects and love how she's able to pack in big feels even in shorter novellas. I hope to see more of Arthur and Grace in the Christina Diane universe!
I purchased both the print and e-book versions. The print version arrived quickly and in great condition. It's a glossy, hi-res cover with nice, thick pages. I can't wait for more releases from Christina to add to my collection!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024It was okay. The sexual talk among sisters, including a fourteen year old, is a little offputting. Later, there is a fair amount of crude talk and walking in on couples having sex.
Of course, this is a novella, but I still wouldn’t call the main characters friends, as they’ve only seen each other a few times before the very short romance officially begins.
Anachronisms bother me and there are some, including misusage of a few words. The punctuation is good. A lack of possessive apostrophes is a bit annoying but not overwhelming.
It’s a solid 3.5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2025To begin with, I received a free copy of this book. I have not read any of her books. The book came with a warning about the explicit and passionate aspects. Well , please take heed to the warnings if you do not enjoy stories of such.
The story is a novella about a younger sister wanting what her siblings have in their marriages. One of the things on her list is that the man must be a Rake or a rogue. She thinks without that her married life would be a bore. Hold on to your seat to see what happens when the young girl and man meet. Sparks fly and not because of tempers. I enjoyed the characters and the honesty they have in their sibling relationships. I am ready to read more of this authors books.
