The Earl and the Vixen: A Steamy Enemies to Lovers Second Chance Regency Romance (The Unlikely Betrothal Series) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 96 ratings

Once lovers, now sworn enemies, fate throws them together at a scandalous house party—and sparks fly.

She’s scorned, defiant, and ready to rewrite her future.

Lady Eliza Nelson fell hopelessly in love with the charming boy next door, only to be left heartbroken and ruined for any other man. Betrayed and bitter, she refuses to bow to society’s rules, vowing instead to live life on her own terms—even if that means taking a lover during her stay at Ockham’s house party.

He’s guarded, haunted, and unwilling to forget the past.
Earl Nicholas Craven gave his heart to one woman, only to believe she had chosen another man. Broken and disillusioned, he retreated from society, determined to forget her. But he comes face-to-face with the woman who shattered his heart—and the fire between them burns as fiercely as ever.

Love, hate, and passion collide.
As the two navigate their explosive reunion, their past threatens to ignite in ways neither can control. Secrets, deception, and undeniable desire bind them together while they try to tear each other apart. Can they overcome past pain to find an intense love—or will bitterness destroy them both?

Christina frequently has dreams of random character ARCs that go into a massive list of planned writings. She currently has more than ten series just waiting to be written!

Aside from her family, writing, and books, she loves Bridgerton, the Grinch, Jessica Rabbit, horror movies, Chucky dolls, cold brew, yoga, Hamilton, the color pink, and speaking in obscure quotes from movies and TV shows.

This book packed an amazing punch. As short as it was it was packed with all the spice and historical romance we need to make this book so special. I say this often in my reviews but I admire an author who can write a short story and fill it with all the important pieces. This book of course has amazing spice but the characters were very likeable and well written. I'm happy to have found yet another historical romance author that did the work a historical romance deserves.

How incredibly cool! This book is the first of five books happening concurrently at one house party. I had the pleasure of speaking with the author, who explained the pains she took to make sure she had perfect continuity throughout the five stories. Such a neat concept!

It gave me vibes of Lisa Kleypas' Again the Magic/Romeo & Juliet: young lovers from rival families torn apart, only to be reunited three years later at a house party. Rivals become lovers again in this SUPER spicy novella. It was too rich for my blood, but that certainly shouldn't stop you if you enjoy REALLY spicy historical romances!

I really enjoyed the story and though it was quick and didn't have an overly large amount of detail it was still detailed enough to enjoy. I do think this was a fun kind of twist on the Romeo and Juliet sort of trope where it's two families warring against each other. I do love that it has a happy ending but that kind of interlude between the happy and the moment of like heartbreak was just nerve-wracking. I did enjoy this author's writing style very much and I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this series and the other series that she has coming out soon.

A quick hit, star-crossed lovers tale set in the Regency Era. Eliza and Nick are obsessed with each other, despite the fact that their fathers are sworn enemies. The feud between their families makes it difficult for them to officially court, but they find ways to grow more and more intimate. A type of Romeo and Juliet.

One fateful night drives them apart and they don’t meet again till three years has passed. Per usual, it’s all made more complicated by the classic miscommunication trope. The dialogue is fun with strong female characters. I’m again impressed by this author’s balance of writing characters with a feminist approach in an era when this was uncommon.

The dynamic is spicy with high emotional moments! The spice is good and appropriate to the story. Their connection is well written and I was teary eyed at some of the scenes.

I continue to enjoy reading this author and look forward to more of her books!

Alright, let’s set the scene. It’s the 1800s. No Wi-Fi. No ESPN. No Ford F-150s. Just powdered wigs, corsets, and a bunch of dudes staring dramatically out of candlelit windows because their fathers slightly disrespected each other 20 years ago.

Enter Nick—the Earl. A man so broody, I’m pretty sure he invented the “staring at the floor while gripping a whiskey glass” aesthetic. He’s got a jawline sharper than my grandpa’s old pocketknife and emotional trauma so deep it should probably have its own therapist. Opposite him, we got Eliza, a woman so quick-witted she could probably talk her way out of jury duty in under three minutes. She’s feisty, independent, and somehow remains stunning despite living in a time before modern deodorant.

Now, I won’t lie to you—I came into this book expecting pure snooze city. But then, boom—betrayal. Boom—duel at dawn. Boom—so much sexual tension you could bottle it and sell it as pre-workout. And let’s talk about the steam. Look, I was expecting a polite hand touch and a meaningful glance. Instead, I got pages of Regency rizz so intense I had to take a lap around the living room just to process it.

Would I normally be caught reading a book where people say things like “I burn for you” instead of just texting “U up?” at 2 AM? Absolutely not. But did I finish this book in record time like a man desperately trying to understand why his wife’s book club gets so excited? You bet your powdered wig I did.

This was an enjoyable read. It was on the shorter side, so I was able to read the whole story in a day. It was engaging and fun. There was angst, but not too much. For me, it was the perfect amount for the length of the book.

Eliza and Nick were great characters. They grew up next to one another and fell in love. Their parents were a problem though. Their families were feuding over a stream, so the story had a bit of Romeo and Juliet vibe. I truly enjoyed how the trope played out and how the couple couldn’t move on from one another despite believing the other gave up on them 3 years ago. There’s something that turns my heart mushy when both characters are held up on each other.

My only qualm was I felt the whole family interference thing could have had more detail towards the end. I’d like to know if the fathers acted independently or if they came together just long enough to conspire against their children.

Either way, this was a spicy and sweet story. I feel like I can already see growth on the part of the author from her last book. This was fun!

After reading the author's debut novel Loving The Unexpected Earl, I knew I had to read this and I am so glad that I did. It is a story that starts off so beautiful and also a bit spicy, rather scandalous for the time period, there are Romeo and Juliet vibes from the start which get you hooked, needing to see where the story takes you and how it becomes a tragedy and it does not disappoint. The twist hits you hard and you feel a number of emotions you don't know whether to feel heartbroken, suspicious, curious or just plain angry. The author manages to make you connect to the characters without you realising it very early on. You really feel for the FMC, feeling her every emotion. And then, you realise you feel for both the FMC and the MMC, even if you don't know why and once it becomes clear, you wait on baited breath to find out what happens next. The book is just the right amount of spicy and is such a thrilling novella. A must read for those that love regency novels 🤗💜

I really enjoyed this quick spicy regency romance. It starts off where you expect it to climax too and spicy from the offset, after a few twists and turns it delivers the HEA I crave from a romance. Highly recommend
