Dancing with a Ghost: An MM Paranormal Romance Kindle Edition
Toby
Being an event planner, working at my parents’ exclusive country hotel wasn’t at the top of my career list. Quite frankly, it wasn’t even on it, but when my latest venture, starting my own dance studio went pear shaped, it was suggested I give up my dream and join the family business.
It was bearable. The commute was short, but pandering to the rich and famous, finding only the best for their wedding or wake, I was starting to get itchy feet. In both senses of the word.
But things are going awry, I’m finding things in the weirdest of places and just sometimes, I feel like I’m not really alone.
Is it wishful thinking or is there something else going on here? Something, I’m not sure I want to know the answer to.
Matthias
He’s just my type, the guy with the smart suits, and the dancing feet. Well he would be if I wasn’t dead!
I’ve watched him for a while now though, trying to get his attention. Sometimes I think it’s working, but haunting, that’s hard work right there, and trying to get him to notice me. It's proving a little difficult considering he can’t see me.
I have to find a way to fix that, because I want him to see me, I want to join him as he waltzes across that majestic ballroom.
Most of all, I want to be with him. Easier said than done, but somehow I have to find a way.

About the author

Alex is an MM author from the NW of England. She's married with three grown-up sons and two Tamaskan dogs, her night time companions when she's writing into the early hours!
She writes gritty, realistic, mainly contemporary romance but always with a happy ever after.
Her tagline? Finding Forever - One Chapter at a Time.
An avid reader, she started writing one lunch break, writing her first book in no time at all. From there, her passion grew and The Nava Dance Studios series was born. Her writing style has changed, a darker feel creeping into her work and while she doesn't profess to be a dark author, she covers some socially dark subjects.
She'd love to move somewhere sunny with a beach view, continuing to write about her perfectly, imperfect men.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2022I wasn't sure what to expect from a ghost story and how this would pan out. I have to admit I was extremely curious though. Toby and Matthias' story was captivating and extremely interesting. They had to have a connection in order for Matthias to be real again. But the thing about it is... how do I explain it? I felt like their connection was so intertwined that Matthias had to go into his situation just to meet Toby. Why? Because they were so clearly meant to be.
The story is beautiful and creative. The ending was epic. My face literally hurt from the smile on my face when Matthias... well I won't give it away. But yeah... an epic ending.
I have to say I've read every one of Alex J. Adams books and I have watched her become a "baby author" to where she is now. She's no longer a baby author to me. I love her stories because she writes about such realities that can be hard to read. Toby and Matthias was a beautiful love story that I couldn't put down. She still put reality in this book but it was much softer than her other stories. That said, this story showed that Alex J. Adams can write anything she wants and be a success. But whatever she writes she puts so much care into her characters. She writes situations that can be difficult but the understanding and compassion that goes into each character can never, ever be questioned. I won't say what Matthias had to deal with but it is something that can make someone extremely self-conscious. How Alex wrote Toby handling it... Kudos Alex, Kudos!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2022This was so cute. Not gonna lie, if you are looking for a quick and sweet read, this story is for you.
There will be slight spoilers
In here we have Toby, a dancer who's studio failed and so is now working for his mother at a hotel. He does not like technology and is pretty beaten down by his overbearing mother.
And Matty, a not really a ghost, who died in the war and is "haunting" the hotel. He is shy, gay, and a virgin who has not even kissed before.
These two meet and its instalove.
Things happen, Toby and his sister/bil do some research and find out that there was an angel of mercy working at the hospital (which is now the hotel) but the government did nothing but bury empty coffins.
Toby and Matty share some ghost loving with a few kisses and some hand jobs and spend a lot of time together, thinking they had a year before Matty disappeared. They were wrong.
For some odd reason, after being told that Matty was gonna spend time away to recharge, Toby basically pitches a fit and stays away for an entire weekend. That loss of connection makes Matty disappear completely.
Y'all know what happens next, crying and declarations of love. And surprise, Matty is back and in his original body, burns and all from the accident that put him in the hospital to begin with.
I was hoping that this was a zombie sort of body, cause its been 79 years but no, his molecules had been pulled apart to keep him in limbo and not dead. Hence my not really a ghost comment.
The epilogue was weird. Not the whole thing, but it did basically rehash what we just read. I mean, I could see this needed in a long book, but I pretty much could remember what I already read.
Anyways, I really liked this one but it does have editing issues. Like the random The End stuck in a sentence. It was not bad enough to pull me out of the story but it was enough for me to notice.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2022First book by this author, and it was okay, if a little disjointed. The story flow was just a little bit off, and needed a little more detailing, but it has great characters and a nice storyline.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2022OMG! The first chapter alone had me frustrated and angry at Toby's mother. Talk about shock at how she treats her own child. Toby is trying to make it through each day working at his mothers hotel. She is very demanding of him.
Then there is Matthias the ghost who has been following Toby for some time now. The attraction he has for Toby is very strong. He's also very protective of of Toby. It's one of the reason Toby starts noticing things moving and disappearing. You'd think Toby would be afraid with all the happening ls going on. But no, he takes it in stride.
I truly enjoyed this story. Alex did an amazing job with how she brought these two together. The time Line was perfect. The mystery of how Matthias could become human again. These two had a bond like no other. They were more alive and happy when together than when not. It was fascinating to read. I couldn't put it down once I started. This just goes to show It's amazing how just a touch can bring another person back to life. I highly recommend this book! I promise you'll love it just as much as I did. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2022The love to stand the test of time. This story has all the soul deep feels. You are hooked from page one until the very last sentence. You truly are sucked into the story, feeling all the ups and downs of emotion from both Matthias and Toby. The bone deep connection and all the fresh smitten vibes that pull you in as they navigated their unique relationship. They were truly in every send of the words, meant to be. Loved how they were drawn to one another and how their connection was on many levels. Amazing ending. Can’t wait for more.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2022Great ghost story, with low angst and beautiful writing!
Toby, the event planner, starts to notice strange things happening around him, and he doesn’t get spooked. Just intrigued and curious. Matthias, who definitely isn’t always a friendly ghost, has his eyes on Toby, but he’s not quite sure how to make contact… he’s a ghost after all. But being around Toby and trying to get in contact makes him stronger.
This story is amazingly well written, and I absolutely love Matthias! He just moved into my heart from the start. And Toby is a perfect match for him.
The second half of the book is my favourite, that’s where I fell in love with their love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living and enjoying a ghost
4,5*
This book is part of the multi author 'Haunted Love Series'.
This book is completely different to the other books I have read by this author and I have to mention I was pleasantly surprised by the end result. Also I enjoyed the reference to dance as in many of the author her books. To me this is a fairly sweet insta like with a pinch of heat ghost story with a twist. The story is told from both Toby and Matthias their POV. Toby being a human living and excisting and not really enjoying his job working for his drmanding and controllong mother. I really liked that she shaped up and respected Toby more after he told her properly off for the first time in his life. Matthias is a ghost, stuck at the manori, former hospital in WW II, n which Toby works and lives. I was pleasantly surprised how easily Toby accepted Matthias being there. I loved his enthusiasm to finding out what happened even getting his sister and husband involved. But after they brought the information they kinda disappeared from the story even though they were so unflappable supportive when his sister heard about ' the ghost' to obly reappear ib the epilogue.
I would have loved that Toby and Matthias found a job and life somewhere outaide of the manor once Matthias was free to leave. So that they both could find out what they really liked to do. But I can see how it might be hard for especially Matthias, to leave a place they are so connected to for many years .

5.0 out of 5 stars MM romance with a twist!
Dancing with a ghost is a beautiful story, Toby and Matthias have an unconventional meeting with wonderful story. A slow burn book with lots of sweet moments and quest for Toby to help Matthias, the ending gave me all the feels for a heart warming story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story!
I simply loved Dancing With a Ghost by Alex J Adams! Toby and Matty are such wonderful characters, each just kind of existing day to day on a different path than they expected. Ghost Matty is a World War II RAF pilot who has spent the last 79 years caught between this life and the next. Toby is an event planner at his family’s estate, working tirelessly creating picture perfect events while his mother takes all the credit. Drawn to Toby, Matty steps in and makes his presence known to him. While initially shocked at seeing a ghost appear before his very eyes, Toby quickly becomes drawn to Matty too. What in ensues is a sweet with some heat love story where Toby helps Matty race against the hands of time to cement their chance at a happily ever after. And, as always, Alex J Adams delivers on a heartfelt happy ending that left me wanting more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Haunted love.
I liked the supernatural elements to the story, Matty being a ghost, and all the ghostly happenings. However, there were some anomalies in the story which just plain annoyed me. For example, Toby wanting to be a dance teacher and nothing coming of it, also, his actions when Matty said he needed sometime to himself. Talk about needy, Toby very nearly loses Matty due to his rather petty response. The story is quite emotional in parts, like when Toby visits the graveyard. The ending was a nice touch, totally bringing Matty into modern times. However, the book as a whole, was somewhat 'bitty.' It occasionally seemed to be following one idea, and then going off on a tangent, and the thread of the story lost. Saying that, I did enjoy Matty as a character, and likes his reaction to modern times which he embraced enthusiastically. Cute ending.
I received an ARC of this story which in no way influenced my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars 👻💞
This is a really sweet love story between Matty and Toby. It’s perfect for anyone who’d like a ghost story romance without any frights! Great to see this author trying a new genre and something lighter too.
