Finding Beau (Liverpool Boys Series Book 2) Kindle Edition
Beau
Beautiful Beau. That’s what they called me. My life was anything but that and I was struggling.
Things were hard. Really hard. A sister who couldn’t say no, a boss I couldn’t say no to, no matter how hard I tried and a place I could be kicked out of any time.
I was fighting a losing battle, and wondered at this point if it was all worth it.
I had nothing to live for, no one to live for and at the age of twenty-three, I was ready to call it a day.
If only there was someone to show me, to prove to me that life was worth living, because right now, I was afraid the next thing I did would be my last.
Kwanchai
Making it big, that was the dream! The fame, the fortune. We wanted it all, the moon and especially the stars.
But a gig in Liverpool, a beautiful bartender that catches my eye, and suddenly, my world is in a spin and nothing is clear. I want to know more, need to know more about the man who’s sad smile speaks so many words.
The man that has captured my attention. The man that has captured my heart.
Success beckons though and I’m in turmoil. He needs me and I have to make him see that he’s worth it, that together, we’re worth it before it’s too late.
Finding Beau is the second in the Liverpool Boys series. It follows Beau, the tortured bartender and the blue haired K-pop star that finds him.
Please heed the trigger warnings: This book features abuse, both verbal and physical, sexual assault and drug use. There is also mention of suicide, both thoughts and intent.

About the author

Alex is an MM author from the NW of England. She's married with three grown-up sons and two Tamaskan dogs, her night time companions when she's writing into the early hours!
She writes gritty, realistic, mainly contemporary romance but always with a happy ever after.
Her tagline? Finding Forever - One Chapter at a Time.
An avid reader, she started writing one lunch break, writing her first book in no time at all. From there, her passion grew and The Nava Dance Studios series was born. Her writing style has changed, a darker feel creeping into her work and while she doesn't profess to be a dark author, she covers some socially dark subjects.
She'd love to move somewhere sunny with a beach view, continuing to write about her perfectly, imperfect men.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2022First I need to say a bit about Alex J Adams. I've followed this author from the very beginning of her journey in publishing. I’ve watched her progress from writer to author and that progression shows in this book. The writing was tight and flows flawlessly from scene to scene, with characters that are well developed. You truly forget they aren't real.
Beautiful Beau, that's all they see him as. A beautiful face and physique, nothing more. A plaything to be used and abused. Life is not good to our Beau. He struggles with deep depression and guilt over his family's tragedy and sisters addiction and you feel everything he goes through. And then he meets Kwan.
Kwan has his own struggles with his aspiring KPop dreams along with his uni studies and family restaurant business. But he helps our Beau see his worth. And together they try to build a relationship.
Prepare to have your heart bleed and tissues at the ready because the reading of Beau's mental illness is raw and gritty but so worth it in the end. Of all Ms. Adams' pairings, these two are top of the list for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2024Beau is so damaged. Wracked with guilt over a childhood accident that cost his parents’ lives and permanent scarring to his sister, Beau has devoted his life to taking care of her. But that had to end. His sister is a drug addict and likely prostitute and plays on his guilt. Now she’s stolen from him, allowed his home to be ransacked and told him how much she resents him. Coupled with losing his job and under threat of eviction, Beau’s spiraling into dangerous territory. Suicidal ideology is taking over his thoughts. It’s just a matter of time.
K-Pop Star wannabe. Kwan, has a limited amount of time for his band to either make it or he goes home to run his family’s restaurant. Playing a dive bar, Kwan spots Beau behind the bar and is instantly taken with the handsome, broody man. But getting to know Beau won’t be easy. Kwan’s not out and the band, his family obligations and attending university take his time and the more he learns about Beau, the more Kwan realizes Beau is going to need a lot of time.
Definitely dark and angsty, there is a beautiful ending to their story. Or is their story just beginning?
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2022Finding Beau is a story about fierce determination, overcoming challenges that life throws at you, finding oneself and finding your everlasting love. I love how vulnerable Beau is at times and how Kwan is there to provide strength and encouragement. The story is full of emotions throughout, and I will say there was one scene that was breaking my heart for the characters, and it brought back some memories from a similar moment in my life that had the tears flowing, so heed the trigger warnings and read with care.
Alex J. Adams has a way of making her characters feel so real, as if they are people you have known for a long time. You get invested in their lives and feel what they are feeling. She even had me invested in the supporting character’s lives! KPOP series possibly? I can’t wait to see what Alex J. Adams has in store for her readers next.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2022Alex has done it again. She makes me care so deeply for her characters. And Beau is definitely no different. His journey through life has taken him through some rocky terrain. The support he needs, but is reluctant to see at first, just landed in front of him. Kwan is a special soul. Loving someone with mental and emotional issues can be daunting. Those who can love us through the roughest of times, deserve all the goodness in the world. It takes a strong person to battle mental illness. And possibly an even stronger person to stick by their side through all of the ups and downs.
To write so fluidly about some tough situations and topics, Alex's writing style just keeps getting better. She has most definitely become a no-brainer 1-Click author for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2022An emotional rollercoaster that was both heartbreaking and uplifting. I really enjoyed the story and loved Beau journey throughout the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2023The author provides an adequate warning about the story's key triggers and does not exaggerate.
Beau is a beautiful young man whose life has been profoundly shattered by circumstances. Following his parents' deaths, he is left to care for his sister, who has developed an agonizing drug habit. In order to "save her," he has allowed himself to be put in a number of vulnerable scenarios, including being sexually assaulted by his employer.
Beau meets Kwan, a stunning K-pop wannabe star, one fateful night. The two are attracted to one other, and Kwan is willing to take chances for Beau despite being in the "closet."
Beau's negative self-talk and fears, driven by his sister's drug-fueled guilt trips and his boss's blackmail, cause him to perceive things in his relationship with Kwan that do not exist. Kwan, on the other hand, is not without his own drama: he is not out to his family (though we will learn that his sexual identity is his worst kept secret), and he is attempting to pursue a music career, attend university, work at his family's restaurant, and build a relationship with an emotionally fragile Beau.
Our MCs arrive at their HEA after several incidences of miscommunication, a suicide attempt, and some conflicts.
What I liked:
1. First-person point of view
2. A realistic examination of addiction and its effects on family members.
3. Realistic depictions of survivor's guilt and the author's refusal to "resolve" mental health issues with a big red bow. The author's description of the work involved in maintaining good mental health through therapy and time was intended.
4. There are numerous approaches to internalized homophobia.
5. The matter-of-fact manner in which positive elements of the MC's life discussed their relationship.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very emotional
This is a complex and emotional, sensitive, painful and beautiful story... some people's lives are sometimes so dramatic, there's so much pain and despair and there's no way you can know it without feeling your heart break into pieces...💔 I just wanted to hug and cry with Beau, the beautiful Beau…💙
Kwan is a budding K-pop star, he knows and understands that artistic life is hard and often short, but even so, he is trying to have his big break. He's dealing with the expectations of his family, two bandmates who are loyal friends, Cho and Sammy, a partner who makes his life difficult Kasem, and the manager Saul...
Beau is, well… poor dear Beau is a mess. His sister is a resentful drug addict he tries to help over and over and over and over… and the boss is a scoundrel who makes things very difficult for Beau with threats and abuse… no more spoilers here!
The tension and level of anguish are high and disagreements are inevitable, after all, the two of them have a lot to deal with on their plates… We find the adorable Ziggy and Marc from the previous book and the couple Kenny and Ty, good friends besides Cho and Sammy, oh, and Hana, Kwan's sister...she's amazing!
When Kwan and Beau finally meet, it's beautiful, it's hot, it's perfect, it's life, it's finding yourself right there and finding your place in the world, having support and acceptance…and they're both deserve it so much!!💙

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing story!
Wow! Alex J Adams continues to show why she’s quickly become a one click author for me. She’s brought all of the emotions in Finding Beau, a perfectly balanced story full of feelings, struggles, and spicy scenes before reaching a hard fought happily ever after.
In Finding Beau, Book 2 in The Liverpool Boys series, we meet Beau, a young man struggling through life as he tries to make ends meet and support his sister Megan. He carries so much misplaced guilt over a tragedy that was not his fault at all and feels responsible for her life choices and addiction.
He ignores his own mental health issues and suffers through so much, making this a very emotional story that brought tears to my eyes and I wanted to reach through the pages and just hug him.
When Beau meets upcoming K-pop star Kwan, their connection is instant but neither know quite how to navigate the roadblocks in their way. Beau has never dated and Kwan lives hours away, balancing his music career and education and hasn’t come out to his band mates or family.
Throughout the story, I felt so connected to both Beau & Kwan, feeling their frustration as they deal with everything they have going on in their lives while trying to make time for each other. They seemed to be the calm in the storm for each other and my heart shattered for Beau when a series of events causes his mental health to spiral out of control.
Alex did an amazing job writing about some very sensitive issues in this book, subjects that I’ve seldom seen tackled so well.
I highly recommend this story, but be sure to check the trigger warnings.

5.0 out of 5 stars ❤️
This is a great follow up to Ziggy but I think it could comfortably be read as a stand alone. When we meet Beau he’s having a pretty difficult time and struggling under a heavy weight of guilt. This author has done a good job showing the challenges of living with grief, guilt and feeling worthless. It’s tough to read at times as Beau’s sorrow really drips from the pages. Kwan brings light and hope into Beau’s life with an instant connection and I loved seeing their relationship grow. One of the elements I loved the most about this story is that Kwan is in a Kpop group, it’s not something I’ve read in MM before I and really enjoyed their dynamic and have my fingers crossed for a Kings series!!!!!! Highly recommend this story 💕 five stars ⭐️

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional read.
Finding Beau is the second book in the series and it was emotional, angsty and gritty but so worth the read. Beau and Kwan are wonderful characters and so deserved their HEA together. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings
💕I have mixed feelings about this story. I truly enjoyed Beau’s character. His pain, his loss, his sense of hopelessness, his guilt. Yet, he tried to hold on to those little rays of hope, no matter how small and insignificant they were.
I was really looking forward to an Asian MC in Kwan, and maybe that’s where I feel this story lacked. I wanted so much for him to shine, but his story fell a little short. I wanted more depth to his character. He was good when he could have been great.
Overall, I still enjoyed the story.
