Saving Ziggy (Liverpool Boys Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 340 ratings

Leaving home four years ago was the best thing I could have done. Selling myself on the streets for the past two years, the worst, but what else was I to do? All I truly wanted was someone I could love and someone to love me in return. Was it really too much to ask?

Meeting him, the most handsome man ever, I thought all my prayers had been answered…..until they weren’t.

That man was almost the death of me.

I survived though, it’s what I’d always done and now I needed to try and rebuild my life.

Marc saved me, was with me every step of the way, showing me that finally, good things can happen. He thought I was damaged, and I probably was, too many emotional scars that would take time to heal.

But Marc had them as well and together, I knew we can find the love we both deserved.

Saving Ziggy is a darker MM romance about a male prostitute and the paramedic that saves him.

Please heed the trigger warnings: This book features abuse, both verbal and physical and sexual assault.

Alex is an MM author from the NW of England. She's married with three grown-up sons and two Tamaskan dogs, her night time companions when she's writing into the early hours!

She writes gritty, realistic, mainly contemporary romance but always with a happy ever after.

Her tagline? Finding Forever - One Chapter at a Time.

An avid reader, she started writing one lunch break, writing her first book in no time at all. From there, her passion grew and The Nava Dance Studios series was born. Ziggy stole my heart! I wanted to reach into the book wrap him in my arms and take care of him myself. I've never wanted to dislike a character as much as I do Damian and his friend Stuart. I wanted to reach into the book and punch them. The way these two treated Ziggy was hard to wrap my head around. Hard to believe anyone could treat another this way.
You ever have that gut feeling you need to protect someone or care for them even after just meeting them? Here is where Marc comes into the picture. From the moment Marc layed eyes on Ziggy there was a connection. A need to be there for him. Knowing Ziggy is fragile emotionally and physically Marc is careful with the way he helps him. I loved the patience and understanding Marc has with Ziggy.
This story will have you feeling every emotion possible.. anger, joy, frustration, scared, protective, and so many more in-between. Make sure you have tissues ready because you're going to need them. This book is gripping and will tear your heart out. But will be put back together by the end. Alex did a phenomenal job with Marc and Ziggy's story. The way their story unfolded was perfect. From the moment you start reading you will be hooked. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. It deserves so much more.

The book kept my interest the whole way through. However, I wish we had more of Marc and Ziggy. I know we needed the beginning to understand Ziggy but it didn't need to be so long. It was half the book and it left me disappointed in the real love story.

Overall it was a good book that kept me reading, it's just not my favorite.

There is a lot unsaid in the blurb. A LOT. I was shocked going into the book, unprepared for the BDSM elements and “relationship”.

Ziggy is a homeless sex worker. Dameon is a rich man. Dameon has Ziggy move in with him, then begins the emotional and mental abuse that slowly turned Ziggy compliant and blind to the truth. The relationship has non-consensual BDSM elements, with Ziggy being a boy and Dameon the untitled Daddy. Its a complete 100% non-consensual total power exchange.

Around 35%, Ziggy almost dies and is in the hospital for 2 week. Marc was the paramedic who was called to the scene and felt an instinct to keep an eye on Ziggy. No BDSM elements in this relationship.

Take note of the Trigger Warnings - its more graphic than it seems.

Between the Cover and the name of the book, I was completely intrigued and couldn't wait to find out what Ziggy was all about. Ziggy was very touching, broken in a way that connected you with him and wanting to see him be the strength he portrays, with a shy weakness that is endearing. His choices not always working out, being the punishment from others lives, but pushing himself forward. Then meeting the one person that comes with more than he ever imagined, a family that accepts him and falls in love with him. Marc was an amazing personality that could see beneath the broken and want more, needing to prove himself and show Ziggy there are still good people in the world. Having his fair share of bad choices, he knew what he wanted and melded his way showing Ziggy they could find and be what they both craved the most, trust, love and courage. I truly loved this story, being able to connect on a personal level with both characters. Great job to the author on such an emotional and gripping story.

I read this book on the advice of the author before I was going to read and review Loving Liam, and I am so glad I did. Besides learning Liam’s backstory, I was so drawn into Ziggy’s traumatic story, I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. The blurb tells the highlights, but it doesn’t get into the nitty gritty of Ziggy, the things that shaped him and led him to his bad first choice of someone to love him (even with all the “street smarts” he had), how he was tricked, used and abused, then found his salvation in Marc. I am afraid of how many young kids like Ziggy have gone through similar things in their lives, the homeless kids on the streets, the unloved and unwanted, and what they will do to not only survive, but to find the same thing we all want, that one person to love them. Trusting and still hoping must be so difficult, with no guarantees, maybe even more so for them. His story is heartbreaking, but also hopeful and promising as he learns to trust, to communicate, to lean on someone else, and to love the right person. A beautiful book, well worth the read, and a new author for me to follow.

This book deals with some pretty depressing, dark, and severe emotional and physical traumas. None of which bothered me. However, the lack of follow-through after said traumas really did. Several aspects seemed to have been completely forgotten or simply went unaddressed, which for me made the read feel superficial and emotionally inconsistent. The introduction of a second [insta] relationship halfway through after the MC suffered such a traumatic experience also fell flat and diminished the emotional sincerity of the first half of the book. I felt there were several missed opportunities to create a much more authentic and complex storyline. With everything happening in this book not enough time was spent on important details to fully satisfy me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ziggy and Marc

Ziggy's story, what he went through so early in life hurt my heart. How unloved and unwanted he felt by his family. Having to do whatever he could to survive, only to be used and left for dead after opening himself up and trusting someone.

The way Marc came into Ziggy's life was unexpected. The way Ziggy managed to grab a hold of him so quickly without speaking a word was just amazing. Marc has such a big heart, doing everything for a man he knew nothing about was so sweet.

    I loved this story.

This book is absolutely perfect, lot of drama, lot of pain, lot of growth, Ziggy is unloved and betrayed in many ways throughout his life, but after a terrible event, he is saved by a paramedic, also slightly injured. ...the Marc. With Marc he finds a love to live and trust, friends that will be more like a built family, (best kind of family in my opinion), and a life to build with strong and secure bonds filled with love and care! Highly recommended!! 5 ⭐

4.0 out of 5 stars Reading red flags
Reviewed in Italy on October 13, 2024
A difficult read, with the first quarter of the story peppered with red flags a discerning reader will recognize and fear.
The trigger warnings might be spoilers, but should be taken seriously.
The climb from the depths during the rest of the book isn't bad, although slightly more optimistic than might seem possible. However, the strength of human spirit is never to be underestimated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark & Beautiful

Yet another beautifully written book by Alex J.Adams, but don’t be fooled this is not a light or fluffy read. This book tackles some hard hitting topics, sexual & physical assault as well as coercive control.

We see very quickly how tough life is on the streets ‘hustling’ to pay the bills & keep a roof over your head & having no family supporting you; & therefore how easy it is to believe & hope your future is looking brighter when someone tells you “I Love You” & initially appears to be supportive & doting. How wrong could Ziggy be? The scenes between Damian & Ziggy make painful & heartbreaking reading.

Alex then introduces us to Marc, bringing hope, life can change & be turned around. Watching Ziggy & Marc learning to navigate their budding relationship, overcome their fears & supporting each other without wanting to control the other is powerful & emotional.

Alex hasn’t lost her knack of peppering snarky humour throughout which gives us some relief from the hard truths we are faced with. The supporting cast are wonderful & add so much depth to this story. Pat in the sex shop still makes me laugh out loud!🙈🤣

Alex skilfully weaves a hard hitting tale of sorrow, desperation, sheer grit & determination but also self doubt, low self esteem, self reflection & ultimately survival leading to a hard won HEA.
This book will stay with me for a long time!

This is the first book that I've read by this author, but I really enjoyed their writing style and the overall story of this book. I was really rooting for Ziggy throughout and was just so pleased for him at the end and I loved so many of the secondary characters and am hoping to see more of them in future books.
I didn't give it 5 stars just because I found the first part was a bit slow to get into, but as soon as the story picked up, I couldn't put it down!
