About the authors
I am proud to be the Founder of StoryShelter.com. For those of you who aren’t familiar with StoryShelter, it’s a fantastic (and free) website where people can share their life experiences by answering fun writing prompts or writing in their online journal. StoryShelter has been a labor of love ever since I started working on it on grad school at NYU. What started out as an exciting idea has materialized into something that has surpassed my expectations – and there’s so much more to come.
With so many amazing stories on the site, we decided to collect some of our favorites and create a book - I Am Here: The Untold Stories of Everyday People.
I hope you'll check it out and enjoy it!

She believes that we are best off turning painful experiences into something useful through the act of creating - and helps people learn how to do that for themselves as a creative facilitator and coach. http://www.kerrilowe.com

- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2015It's one piece after another of people putting onto paper their most memorable stories. A slew of writers manage to pack major moments of revelation into only a few pages each. Many of these occurrences will be familiar; others will offer an unexpected glimpse into the lives of "everyday people." A fast, easy read, full of all sorts of variety.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2015Whenever we encounter an obstacle, a trauma, a hardship, or any negative aspect to life, we often feel alone, as if no one else has gone through what we are facing. This compilation of true stories should help alleviate that feeling.
Written from the heart of the forty-two writers that contributed their stories, this book covers a great many of the experiences that life throws at us. Their ability to overcome is inspiring and serves to remind us we are not alone.
The stories come from the web site StoryShelter.com, and while each are compelling, they are also well written. Some are humorous, some sad, but all are worth the time to read, Each story is short and could almost be used as a devotional, reading one each day.
This is a book that would be good to have next to your bed so you could read a story before drifting off. And no matter what is going on in your life, no matter what kind of day you may have had, you will be reminded, you are not alone.
This one gets five stars
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2015I Am Here makes entertaining light reading. It consists of stories written by a selection of amateur authors, so the content, style and skill varies. Nevertheless, there are some fascinating stories and it achieves its apparent objective (from the title) to give us insight into the everyday (and not so everyday) events or problems that face us humans. Subjects as varied as having oversize breasts, running naked on a beach and saving a man from drowning.make a satisfying short read before turning out the light and pulling up the bedclothes.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2015This is a riveting anthology of survival stories. The tales are unique because they are reminiscences of average, not prominent, people. These overcomers are inspiring because they had no more resources than you and I. They weren’t famous, powerful, and wealthy. They conquered tremendous odds through will power and the occasional miracle. There was no other choice for them: fail or fight.
The uplifting cases mentioned include examples, such as:
• Overcoming illness, mental blocks, and stereotypes
• Accepting and believing in yourself
• Strengthening family ties
• Finding heroes in unlikely places
The main takeaway was a feeling of empowerment. I thought, “If they can do it, I can, too!” My miracle must be out there somewhere!
I’m so glad I was led to this feel-good book! I recommend it to all readers, especially those who want to boost their faith.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2015I just finished reading I Am Here and it was truly a wild ride! The range of life experiences and ages of the people in the book meant that every story had a unique viewpoint and something different to illuminate about living. One thing the stories made me think about again and again was taking risks in my life. Some risks that people took worked out really well and others didn't, but still, reading their perspective on it now was interesting because whatever the outcome, they were grateful for the experience. It made me think about all the little joys in life like family, and nature, and being true to yourself. I'm sure I'll go back to some of these stories when I need some inspiration. I highly recommend I Am Here!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2015Real life experiences told in Vignettes by everyday people that have been moved to share themselves with the world. The stories are not all well written, and Their lifestyle choices or attitudes may not be yours, but they certainly are worthy of your consideration!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2015If you're looking for an easy thoughtful read for travel or for the beach, i would highly recommend grabbing this book. Storyshelter - to me - is like a long form of Humans of New York, instead of pictures annotated with short blurbs, it goes a level deeper. This book is a selection of stories from the site that vary from inspirational(A high School Drop-out with a Masters) to that which will put you in tears (It's alright to cry), to stories that sound like a secret told to a friend (Special Ugly Duckling). Adorable, emotional, and personal, these stories are thought provoking in way that is perfect when you're in that relaxed vacation state.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time
These stories were so uninteresting and dull. I kept hoping some of them would be better, but I eventually gave up and just stopped reading and wasting my time.
