When life gives you lemons, burn the whole tree down!
Samara Yancy has tried her best not to start another Great War. To defeat her enemy, she’ll need more defensive Combat Mages to fight by her side. But they’re scattered, some behind city/state dampening fields, others miles away on The Mainland.
Meanwhile, her Psi ability continues to develop in strange ways. When it gives her cryptic clues about the source of all the unrest plaguing her world, she needs to learn more about her kind. Oddities who were both admired and feared.
But the universe keeps messing up her plans. After another strategy goes sideways, Samara finally understands the source of all the terror attacks. The ensuing fight will test her wit and will to defuse the ticking time bomb, set to trigger another class war.

About the author

Jan believes the real world is much smaller than it should be, so she writes fantasy.
Her exhausted parents were happy all their fifth child wanted to do was create elaborate stories involving a pretend cattle ranch guarded by vegetarian dinosaurs and go on adventures with her stuffed teddy bear, creatively named Ted. She had the freedom to let her imagination run wild, and the savvy six-year-old took full advantage of it.
After winning the high school senior class title of 'wittiest' and getting out of college in four years (both equally astounding feats) she began her 30+ year career in advertising and marketing. Extensive work travel allowed her to indulge in her reading habit. It also sparked her first series idea: Rock, Paper, Scissors. A Young Adult Urban Fantasy which takes place in an alternate United States. All 4 books are chock full of action, a bit of snark and a hint of romance.
Now a full-time writer, she lives in her hometown of New Orleans. The city is its own character in the 22 book paranormal romance books she's presently writing. It features a variety of Supernatural creatures: Shifters, Weres, Vampires, Witches & the Fae. An enchanted deck of tarot cards adds a unique twist to the interwoven storylines of her G.R.I.T.S. series.
All Jan Mau Hill's books are fast-paced reads featuring smart and feisty heroines. If you like that sorta thing, these books are for you.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2023I've been a dedicated fan of this series from the very beginning, and I'm thrilled to say that Book 4 has exceeded all my expectations once again. The story continues to captivate and enthrall, and I couldn't put it down until I read to the very last page.
Samara Yancy, our fierce protagonist, is back and better than ever. Her character development throughout the series has been nothing short of remarkable, and in this installment, we see her facing even greater challenges. The way she handles these challenges with her newfound Psi ability is both inspiring and incredibly well-written.
The world-building in this series has always been a standout feature, and in this book, we delve even deeper into the intricacies of the universe. The blend of magic and technology, along with the unique political landscape, creates a rich and immersive backdrop for the story.
The plot is fast-paced and filled with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. The cryptic clues, the source of unrest, and the ticking time bomb all come together in a brilliant and satisfying climax that left me eagerly awaiting the next book.
If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend picking up the first book, because it's a journey you won't want to miss. And for longtime fans, Book 4 is an absolute must-read. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with magic, betrayal, and the kind of epic showdown that will leave you breathless. Mon Ami, this series just keeps getting better and better!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2023"Rock," "Paper," and "Scissors" could only be followed by "Throw," but perhaps it should be "Throw Down" because our favorite sarcastic brawler, Samara Yancy, is back—and this time, her Sai Blades glow, thanks to her new-found magical powers.
Having saved her foster parents but lost her grandmother in the process, Sam is grieving, but there's no time to mourn when terror attacks threaten to spark another Great War. Defensive combat mages known as "Mirrors" are the answer, but they're scattered across a divided land. Can Sam round them up in time to save a mad world on the brink?
In this series finale, Jan Mau Hill brings the saga to an exciting finish with Sam fighting for a peaceful transition to equality in a politically treacherous and deeply divided dystopia—a theme that's never been more timely. My only crit: with Sam's scooby gang now up to 24 distinct characters, it's a bit of a brain strain to remember who's who.
That said, "Throw" is a fun and fitting conclusion to a compulsively readable, action-packed, page-turning urban fantasy series that has a lot to say and always says it with sass. Looking forward to the next big thing from Jan Mau Hill!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2023While this is not my go-to genre, every once in a while I enjoy a fantasy or military sci-fi. Jan May Hill is an excellent wordsmith ( adrenaline and anger continue to burn like twin flames within me. ). and keeps the action moving forward. I enjoyed the ‘contemporary/dystopian/Game of Thrones vibe. A fun escape.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2023Sam's journey for justice is riddled with betrayal, dampened by loss and sprinkled with revenge, but her love for her family trumps all. Using all of her powerful skills, she takes us across the country and sets wrongs right. The carefully crafted settings, the family dynamics, the fast-paced action sequences, and the humor in all things makes book four a delight. Despite shifting loyalties and goals, Sam comes to discover the true value of family, friends, and fellow citizens in her young life.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2023I really enjoyed the first three books in Hill's début series... The fourth and final installment is no different. The characters' friendship is the icing on the cake for me. I love how the storyline wrapped up to put an exciting stamp on the ending of the series, and I'm already looking forward to the author's next undertaking in her writing journey!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2023Jan Mau Hill delivered with the conclusion of her Rock, Paper, Scissors, Throw series. I won't give away any spoilers, but you can be sure to enjoy the entire series from start to finish!

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Wrap-Up to a Kick-Ass Series!
Throw, book four of the Rock, Paper, Scissors Series, rocks! Samara's got her magical powers growing, tackling enemies with style. The story dives deep into her powers, and you can't help but root for her.
Samara's crew adds awesome flavor to the mix! The author is a talented storyteller and sets a nice pace, keeping things dynamic, engaging and nicely unpredictable.
The showdown? Totally worth the build-up. The plot ties up neatly, and you're left with that satisfying feeling of 'Wow, that was one epic ride.' The author adds a nice mix of humor and heartfelt moments, making the series hit close to home.
