Drake Ascendant (Dragon's Oath Book 1) Kindle Edition
Ervig Greenfields, a young prison guard, seeks the dragons’ help to lift a curse that has trapped him in the form of a dungeon rat. The dragons offer him access to the Labyrinth of Times: a maze where dark magic can be purged and the curse lifted.
But there's a catch. To enter, Ervig must swear the Dragon’s Oath, a vow of secrecy that binds him to the dragons as a Drake Ascendant - a human imbued with dragon power, compelled to fight alongside dragonkind for centuries, never to return to his own time.
Slipping through a tear in time to the past, The Drake Ascendant becomes the seed of change risking everything to confront the spirits of the Book Darkmore—and the evil forces that cursed him. His quest will demand sacrifice, and unity between humans and dragons. But can the Thornose and Goldenhorn dragons trust each other—and trust humanity?
An epic fantasy adventure, DRAKE ASCENDANT is the first book in Donna Sundblad's Dragon's Oath series.

About the author

Originally from the Chicago area, Donna Sundblad now calls the foothills of Northwest Georgia home, where she lives with her husband, cat, and bird. Her love for storytelling began in childhood, entertaining friends and family with the vivid tales of her active imagination. By her teenage years, Donna’s passion for writing had taken root, and with encouragement from a supportive English teacher, she began to transform her imaginative stories into written form.
An avid reader with a broad taste in genres, Donna specializes in good versus evil YA fantasy fiction. Her stories are woven with prophecies, quests, and the timeless battle between light and darkness. The inspiration for The Inheritance came from her own spiritual journey to uncover Truth. Although raised in a religious home, Donna's transformative encounter with Jesus Christ at age 29 profoundly impacted her life and inspired her writing. Through this work, she invites readers to explore their beliefs and consider the nature of Truth, encouraging reflection on their eternal destinies.
In her YA fantasy, Windwalker, readers will embark on an epic journey with Manelin, a social outcast, and Jalil, a lame Jonnick girl, as they navigate ancient prophecies and a world teetering on the brink of destruction.
Her latest release, Beyond the Fifth Gate, takes readers on a thrilling quest as Elita, the Chosen One, faces a race against time to save her world and free her people before the mystical gates of Kamali's cycle close for another fifty years.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2025Drake Ascendant is an exciting dive into a world of dragons, magic, and unexpected destiny. From the very first chapter, I was hooked by Ervig Greenfields’ journey—imagine being turned into a dungeon rat and realizing the only way out involves making a life-altering pact with dragons! The stakes were high, and I loved how Sundblad weaved in themes of sacrifice and duty, making Ervig’s choices feel weighty and real.
What really stood out to me was the world-building. The Labyrinth of Times, the dragons, and the idea of an oath binding humans and dragons together—it all felt fresh and immersive. The pacing was just right, keeping me engaged without feeling rushed.
If you love fantasy with deep lore, strong character arcs, and a bit of mystery, this book is definitely worth a read. I’m already looking forward to the next in the Dragon’s Oath series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Start to a Promising Fantasy Series
Early Review – Drake Ascendant by Donna Sundblad
From the very first page, Drake Ascendant grabs you by the collar and yanks you into a fast-paced chase through shadowy alleys and whispered incantations. Donna Sundblad has crafted a vivid, gritty world that pulses with tension and magic. Her writing is crisp and cinematic—she doesn't waste a word. The protagonist, Nerius Azwix, is immediately engaging: a rogue with a heart, clever enough to survive, and flawed enough to feel real.
What stands out is how effortlessly Sundblad builds momentum—every moment drips with danger, mystery, and just enough magic to keep you turning the pages. It’s a rare treat to find a fantasy debut that’s both grounded in classic tropes and fresh in its execution.
Donna Sundblad is not only a skilled storyteller but clearly a kind soul who brings heart to her work. If the rest of the series carries this same energy, it promises to be a gripping ride.
Highly recommended for fans of fast-paced fantasy with roguish charm and just a touch of chaos magic.
