I Wanna Dance: A Second Chance At Love Novella (A Modern Vintage Romance) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 580 ratings

She Wants To Dance With Somebody Who Loves Her.

Five years after her divorce shattered her world, Leah Stahl is still piecing her life back together. Betrayed by her husband’s affair and estranged from her children, she’s channeled her pain into a new career as a divorce attorney, fighting to help other women get the justice she never received. But even as she builds a new life, her heart feels stuck in the past—until a surprising Christmas gift sets her on an unexpected path.

Marco Cabrera has been a widower for nearly three years, burying himself in his work to avoid the ache of loss. At the urging of his two caring but persistent daughters, he reluctantly agrees to step out of his comfort zone and take salsa classes. He never expects to meet someone like Leah: strong, guarded, and yet brimming with a quiet vulnerability that mirrors his own.

As Leah and Marco begin to find solace in each other—both on and off the dance floor—their connection deepens. But just as Leah starts to believe in the possibility of love again, her ex-husband returns, stirring up trouble. When her doubts tear them apart, it takes courage, honesty, and the support of those who love them to bring them back together.

Have you ever wanted to dive into a heartwarming, sweet romance featuring two incredible characters who navigate through some challenges? "I Wanna Dance" is the ideal book for you! The romance is beautifully crafted with a hint of drama. We are also fortunate to experience both characters' perspectives throughout the novella, adding significant depth to the story.

Leah and her ex-husband (Kevin) are first introduced in "A Kiss From a Rose," one of my favorite works by Maya Alden (if you haven’t read anything by her, you are missing out, she is an amazing author). While it's not essential to read "A Kiss From a Rose" first, it does provide valuable insight into Leah and features another fantastic story you won't want to miss.
Leah and Marco’s story begins with them meeting at a salsa dance class, where they are the only attendees who are not part of a couple. Initially strangers, they end up pairing up since both are single. Marco's daughters had encouraged him to join the class, as he hasn’t dated since his wife passed away three years ago. Meanwhile, Leah's friend has signed her up because she hasn't felt confident enough to date following her divorce five years prior. As they glide through the class, their connection deepens. Just when Leah starts to embrace the idea of love once more, her cheating ex- husband reappears, causing chaos.

Will her insecurities create distance between them, or will they overcome the obstacles in their path? I’d highly recommend you snuggle up in a soft blanket and explore the journey of Marco and Leah- you won’t regret it!.

Sweet, charming, funny story about finding love later in life after a devastating, toxic relationship that makes you doubt yourself and your ability to be loved. Once again, Maya has taken characters and given them life so vivid you can feel the heartache and pain while you read. I can sympathize with all of Leah's feelings of not knowing how to believe in something so wonderful after being married to someone so horrible. And while you are in the horrible, it's hard to see just how horrible it is because you become so accustomed to the negatives.
Leah and Marco meet in a dance class and start to date - each having their own "baggage" - Leah - toxic ex who is so bitter he can't stand anything good happening for her and Marco, the death of his first wife - letting go and moving on is something they both need help with - and finding each other accomplishes that!
It's a sweet, enjoyable romance...minimum drama with each other. I love how Marco's daughters talk to him and help him understand women - specifically Leah!
The bar showdown...chef's kiss. Beautiful! Loved it!

This was a quick, short and sweet story. Although the main characters have some emotional struggles to wade through, there wasn't a lot of conflict as we've seen in her other books.

A sweet novella about finding happiness and love later in life. There are a couple of dark moments that are dealt with fairly quickly! If you read Kiss from a Rose by Maya(and if you haven’t you should), then you already met the heroine Leah. She was the friend of Rose who was handling the divorce paperwork for her. So we do get to see a little bit of Rose in the story!

Ok, first let’s go through the blurbs checklist:
🪭 Second Chance At Love-✅Marco was married for over 20 years and would still be married if his wife hadn’t died from cancer. He isn’t really looking for love, but his two daughters would like to see him move forward. Meanwhile, Leah, is divorced(5years) from her cheating narcissistic husband who for some reason got all the money, friends, and even the grown children in the divorce. He also took some of Leah’s self worth.
    🪭 Later In Life-✅mid/Late 40’s
🪭 Other Man/Woman Drama✅-Well not your typical drama. Kevin, the ex husband stirs up trouble by making the h doubt herself and therefore makes her think that no one would ever stay with her. He also tries to plant seeds of doubt with Marco, but Marco wasn’t having any of it. Marco meanwhile grapples with the memory of his wife. Sex is one thing. But is it disloyal to build your life with someone new?
🪭 No Cheating-✅Absolutely no cheating, not even a hint of it! (Except for the fact that Leah’s ex cheated on her years ago.
🪭 Complete Standalone✅-Short, Sweet, and Complete

I have stated this before, when I pick up a story where one of the main character’s spouse is deceased, I never want the new love interest to come out as second best. The romance between Marco and Leah is believable. I do not feel that she comes off as 2nd best. I think Leah actually says it best when she says,
“Marco you don’t have to let Camille go. Love doesn’t work that way. You can love her and still move forward. You don’t have to choose one or the other.”

It helps that his grown children are in full support of their father moving on. People who read Kiss from a Rose may want to know about Leah’s children, but I am not spoiling their roles in the story here!

I was lucky enough to get this book as an ARC.

We first met Leah in Kiss from a Rose and I was so hoping that Maya Alden would write Leah's story. This novella is about healing and a second chance at love for both Leah and Marco. Marco is a widower who was very much in love with his wife and Leah is divorced from her cheating husband. They meet during dance lessons there were gifted to them for Christmas. We follow their story as Leah learns to survive the trauma of her divorce and Marco learns that he can move on with his life and find love again.

Give me a Maya Alden book any day and I’ll read it in one go! Her characters are always complex and full of depth. Leah, could be any of us with her doubts, insecurities and broken by a toxic marriage. When she meets Marco, she can’t believe that a successful, handsome man would want her. It was so satisfying reading how his love brought her back to life and rediscovered the strong woman she had
    always been!

Society is so quick to write off women of a certain age. While men are allowed to age like fine wine, a woman over 40 is made to feel past her prime. It was so impactful and relatable witnessing Leah walk this chapter of life. We all our own baggage and trauma as the years pass and Leah had her own scars to heal and overcome. I loved the steadfast support Marco nurtured Leah with and watching them fall into each other was absolutely beautiful.
