I love writing. Whether it is contemporary cowboy romance or historical fiction set in my beloved state of Arizona, my novels always tell an engaging story of flawed characters in needed of second chances, redemption, or they must overcome personal trials. I love finding ways to weave real history and real settings into my stories.

My husband, Jim, and I live in Gilbert, Arizona with our two dogs, Bella and Daisy. We enjoy traveling throughout the state finding new adventures which often end up influencing the stories I write. We also are very active at Rock Point Church in Queen Creek, Arizona.

    I enjoy Christian Romance books. I also enjoy books with a Western theme. Falling for a Shy Cowboy is Book 2 in the Vargas Ranch Series. I read Book 1 in this series and was excited to read this book!

    The 2 main characters in this book are Dylan Vargas and Brisa Franco. Dylan's friend and co-worker, Adan, sets Dylan up on a dating service site. Dylan is matched with Brisa, who happens to be his childhood crush and the sister of his best friend, Adan. Brisa has come back to Arizona with her 4yr old son who is disabled. Brisa discovers that one of her first assignments at her new job it to help Dylan overcome a speech impediment. Brisa isn't exactly sure if she is ready to move forward with a new relationship due to past relationships. Will Dylan and Brisa connect and begin a relationship? Can they both overcome the things holding them back?

    WOW, this storyline captured my attention from the very first pages and I could not put the book down. I really LOVE that Dylan and Brisa were bought together not only through the dating service, but also the fact that they are both helping one another with life struggles. I also LOVE how they are both strong in their faith and rely on God's timing for life. I truly enjoyed reading being back at Vargas Family Ranch in Book 2. The book is about Faith, LOVE and Following God's Plan and not our own. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enoys Christian Romance. AWESOME BOOK!

    Dylan was almost saintly compared to men his age these days! He’d never kissed a woman, let alone date.

    Brisa lived with her boyfriend for several years, but only a few months in, the relationship changed drastically. Thankfully, she and her young son found sanctuary at Vargas Ranch.

    I wanted to give this five stars, but I couldn’t understand how a 31 year old man had to hide the fact that he loved his best friends sister. Adan warned Dylan back in high school that Brisa was off limits, but that was because she was a sophomore and Dylan a senior. That situation was just a tad too prevalent throughout too much of this story.

    Other than that, it was a very good read.

    I liked this story for so many reason. First I loved Dylan and how shy he is. He has tried all his life to overcome stuttering but as he grew up it continues especially when he gets nervous. Being a worker at his family’s ranch, he encounters people who come out for riding lessons. I felt so bad for him when he tried to help a group but gets frustrated when he struggles to talk. Maybe it’s time he gets some help to overcome this problem that affects his speech. Having this fear of being judged all his life has given him a lack of confidence. I laughed when his friend has this great plan to help him overcome his shyness around women.

    Brisa is a good character who finds herself working at the ranch that Dylan’s family runs. Thanks to her brother who works there she is offered a job that will give her a fresh start. I couldn’t wait to find out her back story and how her sweet four year old ended up in a wheelchair. There is also history between her and Dylan which will play a big part in this heartwarming story.

    The story is emotional at times where we see our two main characters overcoming their past. They are vulnerable yet ready to be set free from things that have held them back. Guilt, insecurity and finding faith again brings this story a much deserved five star rating.

    Falling for a Shy Cowboy is a contemporary Christian cowboy romance by Karen Baney. It is the second book in the Vargas Ranch series. Continuing the story of the Vargas brothers and their family ranch near Wickenburg, Arizona, this book focuses on Dylan Vargas, a shy cowboy with a stutter. Things get interesting quickly when you add his feelings for his best friend’s sister.

    Adan, Dylan’s best friend, harbors feelings of guilt regarding the abuse of his sister Brisa Franco. When she moves home to Wickenburg and takes a job at the Vargas ranch, things take a dramatic turn for her and her young son, who lost both of his legs in an accident.

    This book will keep you reading, including a dating app and some other interesting twists. The author moves this story along excellently and includes touching and faith-filled storylines that kept me reading.

    While you could read this book independently, I recommend reading the books in order. I will be reading the rest of the books in this series. The Vargas clan and the other characters in this series make the books come to life and keep you reading.

    So, if you are looking for a Contemporary Christian Cowboy Romance, check out Falling for a Shy Cowboy and the rest of the Vargas Ranch series by Karen Baney.
