One moment of weakness. One chance at redemption.

Single mom Kelly Sutton thought she had left her past struggles behind, but starting over in Arizona brings them rushing back. In her darkest moment, help comes from an unexpected source—Matt Dixon, the kind yet overburdened roommate of her ex.

For Matt, juggling a demanding career, seminary classes, and an internship at church leaves little room for distractions. But when Kelly’s vulnerability sparks something deeper in him, his perfectly organized life takes a sudden turn. Can he find space in his heart for love without sacrificing his calling? And can Kelly trust herself—and Matt—enough to embrace a second chance at happiness?

I love writing. Whether it is contemporary cowboy romance or historical fiction set in my beloved state of Arizona, my novels always tell an engaging story of flawed characters in needed of second chances, redemption, or they must overcome personal trials. I love finding ways to weave real history and real settings into my stories.

My husband, Jim, and I live in Gilbert, Arizona with our two dogs, Bella and Daisy. We enjoy traveling throughout the state finding new adventures which often end up influencing the stories I write. We also are very active at Rock Point Church in Queen Creek, Arizona.

This book is written from a Christian perspective, which I enjoy. No foul language or explicit description of sexual activities. The book is well-written by Karen Baney, easy to read, and keeps the reader’s attention.

Good book, especially enjoyed the quoted Bible verses as well as the blessing of redemption. Even when we stray, God still loves, cares and provides for us.

I enjoy Christian Romance books. I have been enjoying books by Karen Baney recently. I had the opportunity to read The Air I Breathe, which is Book 1 in the Steadfast Love Series.

Kelly Sutton has just made a major move to Arizona to be closer to her daughter's father. She has been overwhelmed and Panic Attacks have started for her. She doesn't know many in the new town, but her daughter's Dad sends over his Roommate to help Kelly come through her panic attack. Matt Dixon and Kelly become fast friends. Matt is a Hardworking man, Financial Analyst by dad and Seminary Student by Night. He dreams of becoming a Youth Pastor and is currently doing an Internship at a local Church. Will Matt and Kelly have a relationship? Will Matt continue on and become a Youth Pastor?

The storyline of this book captured my attention from the very first chapter. I really LOVE how Kelly moves so her daughter can be closer to her Dad. Kelly also wanted to leave her past behind and start anew. Matt is a GREAT character and friend for Kelly. I enjoyed the fact that Matt has care and concern for Kelly, knowing she is in a new town. The friendship was so precious, especially as they are able to talk about their pasts, which helps the friendship move forward. I LOVE they both rely on God and Faith to help them. The book is about Faith, LOVE and Second Chances. FANTASIC BOOK!

Strong second chance, starting over, Christian book. Thoroughly enjoyed. Couldn't put down.

Wow. I was not expecting such an emotional roller coaster as this story is. The author delivers characters that are realistic with problems some readers can relate to. It is important to grasp the concept of this message with a pure heart. We all sin and in those dark moments we feel alone, but there is always hope.

Kelly thinks she has finally started to get her life back on track as she decides to move to where the father of her child lives. With renewed hope she starts a job and begins to adjust to seeing her ex as he connects with his daughter. I did like how the author shows us how temptation can happen and how it can affect our lives. Kelly was so sure she would not make the same mistake twice but when you are insecure and wanting to feel needed, it is hard not to give in. I appreciate the author also illustrating how panic attacks happen and how important it is for Kelly to deal with what is causing her attacks to start happening again.

Matt is one of those people who you can count on. He is a hard worker, goes to seminary school and works with the youth at church. When he encounters Kelly she is in crisis. Matt’s compassion and patience shines as he befriends her. I did enjoy watching them share about their past and how they each had to forgive someone that has hurt them. Matt’s life takes a sharp turn that leaves him having to make hard decisions.

The story does deal with sensitive issues such as panic attacks, drug abuse premarital sex and affairs which could be a trigger for some readers. They are hard topics but the author uses them to show how God forgives us and learn to trust Him. Forgiveness plays a big part in the story and I liked how the characters dealt with their hardened hearts.

Throughout the book we see how the different characters think that they can never be used by God again. They are ashamed and feel like they don’t deserve to be forgiven . Isn’t it comforting to know that we can be redeemed, forgiven and begin again?

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

The Air I Breathe by Karen Baney is a contemporary romance. It serves as the first book in the Steadfast Love series. Kelly Sutton uproots her and her daughter’s lives when life forces her to make tough decisions. Moving closer to her daughter’s father seems like the right choice. However, the stress causes her to have panic attacks.

Enter Matt Dixon, a financial analyst by day, seminary student, and intern at his church in his remaining time. As a roommate to Kyle, Kelly’s daughter’s father, he is the only one who can help Kelly when she has her first panic attack.

This book illustrates the costs and difficulties Christians can face daily. Karen Baney does an exceptional job creating characters I wanted to get to know and see overcome their past. Forgiveness is an easy word, but living it is much more difficult. This book will keep you reading with twists, turns, reconciliation, and more.

So, if you enjoy contemporary romances, check out The Air I Breathe by Karen Baney for yourself. I definitely recommend it. I personally recommend it and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

The Air I Breathe is a sweet contemporary Christian romance novel all about second chances at life and love. It read quickly. The characters were relatable and loveable. They were flawed but that’s what makes them so wonderful.

This is book one in a new series so look forward and watch for the next instalment!

There are some hard topics within the book. Like unplanned pregnancy, abuse of drugs and alcohol, affairs, etc. But it also shows how God can redeem and forgive them all.

Kelly and Matt are great relatable characters. You’ll enjoy getting to know them and watching them grow together.

I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
