The Roaming Adventurer: Colter Sons Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 25 ratings

I won’t be bridled by anyone…
or so I thought.

All I ever wanted was to focus on my career as a surveyor. Build up my business. Explore the wilderness. Then I met her, and she lied to me, putting me in a difficult position. I ought to let her deal with the mess she made.

But Mama raised me to make honorable choices. If I do, are we gonna be stuck with each other until death do us part? Will that come sooner than I think?

Only thing I know for certain, 1890 will change my life in ways no one could have foreseen.

The 1880s and 1890s bring dramatic changes to the Colter family in Prescott, Arizona Territory. Family secrets, secret identities, and blind ambition threatens to tear them apart and stretches their faith to the limit. Will adversity bring them closer together? Or will family dynamics scatter them as these five brothers move into manhood? Will they remain Colter strong?

I love writing. Whether it is contemporary cowboy romance or historical fiction set in my beloved state of Arizona, my novels always tell an engaging story of flawed characters in needed of second chances, redemption, or they must overcome personal trials. I love finding ways to weave real history and real settings into my stories.

My husband, Jim, and I live in Gilbert, Arizona with our two dogs, Bella and Daisy. We enjoy traveling throughout the state finding new adventures which often end up influencing the stories I write. We also are very active at Rock Point Church in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Another super romantic story! Boone and Jacklyn survived so many trials and storms of life… but it was also what drew them closer together ❤️

This was an amazing story. The author includes so much in this one book. Boone just had me holding my breath with his many dangerous episodes. Jack who happens to be a girl throws a wrench in his fun and crazy actions. This book has it all and you might want to have a tissue or two handy. These characters will steal your heart. Great author.

    The Roaming Adventurer
    Colter Sons #2
    Karen Baney

Boone Colter has finally decided to open his own office as a surveyor and needs to hire a crew. Time is of the essence as he has a job that needs to be done as soon as possible, routing a new railroad line. When Jack Bennett applies for the job, he seems a perfect fit with his experience. There's just one problem "Jack" is actually Jaclyn.

Jaclyn's plan is working perfectly, and her disguise has fooled everyone. Until she gets hurt and her secret is revealed. With Jaclyn's reputation ruined, Boone does what he can to protect her by offering to marry her.

Marriage wasn't something either Boone or Jaclyn was contemplating when suddenly it was thrust upon them. Can they make it work, or will the entire situation make them resent one another and their marriage?

The Roaming Adventurer is the second book in the Colter Sons series, and it picks up a couple years after The Reluctant Cattleman. It is interesting to revisit the Colter family and see how it has changed. The relationship between the brothers is definitely a tangled mess, and one has to wonder just what makes them each the way they are. Overall this is a good story with emotional peaks and valleys as life unfolds.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Boone Colter is the third son and he a wild one. I got many chuckles reading about his parents struggles with him and all of his shenanigans. So, his career choice of a surveyor suited him well. He liked to live life a little more dangerously than the rest of his family. Working for his brother James as a surveyor for the railroad brings him across a certain young lady, Jaclyn Bennett. Or as Boone first knows her as Jack.

Jaclyn has worked since a young age with her father as an assistant surveyor for him. Now that she is of marriageable age, her father would like her to forget that life and settle down as a married woman. Not so for Jaclyn, as she has an adventurous streak as well. So, she hires herself out to Boone's team disguised as a man.

Well, obviously things don't go as planned. Accidents happen, truths come out, and to protect reputations an unplanned marriage takes place. Boone and Jaclyn must learn to navigate their wills, wants, and needs now with one another. I think Jaclyn was a great match for Boone's adventurous streak. I really enjoyed their romance growing as a married couple with all life has for them, in joys and heartbreaks.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

TRIGGER WARNING:Deals with miscarriages and traumatic injuries resulting in death.
Boone and Jack both love the job of a surveyor and have no desire to settle down. Boone is impressed with how good Jack is at the job, but there's something that's not sitting right with him about Jack. It's not until there's an accident and Jack is injured that he figures out what it is. Jack is actually Jacqueline!!! He hired a female to be part of his crew unchaperoned!!! Now they have to get married to save their names. Will they be able to make a life together? What will their families say? Can she continue to do the job now that he knows the truth? When tragedy strikes will it draw them closer or apart?
I received a copy of this book from the author in both ebook and audio. Review voluntarily given.
