About the author

I love writing. Whether it is contemporary cowboy romance or historical fiction set in my beloved state of Arizona, my novels always tell an engaging story of flawed characters in needed of second chances, redemption, or they must overcome personal trials. I love finding ways to weave real history and real settings into my stories.
My husband, Jim, and I live in Gilbert, Arizona with our two dogs, Bella and Daisy. We enjoy traveling throughout the state finding new adventures which often end up influencing the stories I write. We also are very active at Rock Point Church in Queen Creek, Arizona.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2013I thoroughly enjoyed this series. The Anderson's, Colters, and Larsons were brave people who left their homes to go begin a new life in the Arizona Territory, settling in the Prescott, Arizona area. They came for various reasons. All had difficult circumstances to overcome..widowhood, loss of children, abuse, divorce, and victims of revenge. Many of the characters had a strong faith, but some had lost their faith because of tragedies in their lives. But God worked in their lives to restore them to Him. The storylines are interesting and hold your attention. If you object to spiritual content, these books are not for you, but if you enjoy books with a spiritual message, this series is great. Well worth the price.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2014A very nicely written series of romances. But if you think of romance literature as vapid and overly emotional, that is not what this collection is about. Karen Barney writes of trials, failures, abuse and of faith, trust and forgiveness. It is her ability to take the story from mere entertainment to heartfelt life lessons that make these books exceptional. Knowing God, trusting God, living for God, talking to God, submitting to God... these are eternal themes in a historical perspective.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2013I like historical fiction as it teaches us more about the period of history we are reading. I thought Karen Baney opened up more this period and the story ( 4 books each building from the last one ) a very interesting and exciting tale, and kept you wanting to turn the page. Her characters were people facing challenges and having dreams of a better life though having to face risk beyond their imagination. You deveolp a real closeness to these main characters. She also wove it into a Christian theme which I like today because so much of our secular fiction is about lust , greed and selfishness, and there seems little moral fiber to their stories. Karen showed how a believer has to grow and experience all sorts of trials yet the difference is a better position in life with God at your side. I will read more from her.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2024Excellent continued stories of members of a large family, sharing all the trials and tribulations, successes and love and happiness. This writer made me feel I was part of the family. I could most feel myself as Betty. I could relate to many of the younger family members' experiences as well. Lots of drama and adventure. I love stories of the old west more than any other time in history. Highly recommend this series for anyone who shares my love of pioneer history.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2014These stories - really one big story - are great. The history is all very accurate seeming, as well as the behavior of the fictional characters. If you read a lot, this bundle will be perfect for you. I started it when my power was out for 3 days and I had nothing to do. Even after all that reading, I had plenty left. This is four full length books in one and all the stories are very captivating. There are a lot of characters, but they're introduced well and individually, so you don't have a problem telling who everyone is like in some books.
There are no sex descriptions, but there is a lot of religious talk. Some Christian romance has way too much preaching for me, but in the 1800s these people would have been this way. It's accurate, and doesn't get in the way of the story. In fact, there are some good life lessons in there about forgiveness. I am not a follower of organized religion and never have been, but some of the advice given to the characters is good life advice. For anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2012I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series, and am anticipating the release of the next book. I feel that a little more time should have been taken with proofreading and error correction, but I was glued to the storyline. The twisting of events was a thrill, and I found myself talking to myself, on more than one occasion. A definite well made purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2013If it hadn't been for the vivid descriptions of his getting his revenge in raping his sister, beating women, descriptions of the lust of the men toward a woman they were with, going into soil doves rooms to satisfy themselves, beatings, killings, the story would have gotten a five.
The last story was brutal. Yet it was the conclusion of the series. I was ready to give up at story three it was so long.
It did have a lot of faith talk, but the other could have been left out, and still have a good story. I wish I knew where to turn it in that it doesn't belong in the Christian category.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
I've just begun the second book in this series. It's a lively look at Pioneering life in the 1800's. A host of families and politicians move out to various places, one of them named Prescott, to begin new lives. Two of the leading families are the Larsons and the Colters. I'm really enjoying these stories. There are some sad and shocking scenes, but these books are a true delight, so far. Threaded throughout is the faith that holds everyone together.
Very well researched and written.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole series - couldn't wait to start the next book when I finished one. In fact was disappointed when I was finished the series. It is good to follow characters all the way through.

4.0 out of 5 stars great reading
Enjoyed reading all four books .. Not being a religious person, the God thing became very tedious much too much
Not needed in my opinion however great reading making you want to read more .. If the rest of this authors books are as
Heavy on the religious theme I would think twice about reading any more ....
