This is my first Karen Barney book and I really enjoyed it. This is a contemporary Christian romance and includes passion, desire, and the struggles that real people encounter, including Christians. The imperfect Christian life and consequences of our choices, including those made prior to becoming a Christian.

The characters are very likeable. I love reading a book and feeling like I wouldn’t mind actually knowing the people and being friends with them.

Kyle has been attracted to Niki for a very long time, but had some very unlikable ways of showing it. He’s made mistakes in his past that he’s still paying for – even after becoming a Christian. And even as a Christian, his fears keep him from doing what he should/when he should. It seems he makes one blunder after another; don’t we all feel that way at times?

Niki lost her parents when she was 14, then loses her only brother when she’s a senior in high school. She’s afraid to even think about falling in love, believing that she would just lose that person like everyone else in her life. Niki lives with her best friend Marcy, who is trying to play matchmaker – quite unsuccessfully.

Even after Niki finds God, her life is very stressful. Her go-to stress reliever has always been work – burying herself in her job. But now her work life is very stressful as well.

I loved watching/reading how it all works out. Many times I thought it would go one direction just to see it take a different turn. And in the end, I found myself not wanting the story to end. ;)

I enjoyed this book. It was a great love story. Two people who have been caught up in the past and trying to overcome those differences. They have a great group of support from friends and family.

I wouldn't say it was an unusual story, as to me it was pretty typical for a romance. However, there were different events within the book that made it different enough that I enjoyed it. It does have a lot of religious actions and events. To me that was the point of the story, finding Jesus, and other ways to deal with hard times and events that we may not understand.
I enjoyed Niki's character. She is a workaholic which is understandable, but amazing that she has accomplished so much. Kyle was also very likeable and a well developed character. I was a little annoyed with the off-side romance/relationship for Marcy and Chad, but not so much that it ruined the story.

This is a very well written book with great characters and events. The author did not go into too many details of the country, but enough that I could envision what the area looked like.

Verdict: 4 stars. Even though it was a typical romance, there were enough different events and interesting events that I enjoyed the story.

Recommendations: To anyone who likes romance or anyone who likes to read religious books.

Niki Turner thought she had life all figured out. When God took her parents and her brother Jack, she felt that if she just didn't keep anyone close, she wouldn't lose anyone else or have to deal with the grief that has bound her personal life for the last 8 years.

She has vowed to just remain friends with her room mate Marcy and focus the remainder of her time at her job, Hamilton Production Solutions, as a software engineer. But Marcy had a goal this year, and that was to make sure that love found it's way into Niki's life. After all , all work and no play, makes for a very dull and boring life. She vowed to make it her New Year's resolution to find Niki a man who would love her, fall in love and live the proverbial "happily ever after" life!

However when a dream job at Heliotronics is offered to Niki, she sees this as a confirmation that she's been on the right track her whole life. However when Kyle Jacobs is assigned to work with her, she begins to question God's sense of humor after all. Kyle Jacobs, Marcy's older brother, has been the person she dreaded her entire four years of high school. He made it his mission to torture her no matter what opportunity presented itself and now here she was, stuck at her dream job with her worst enemy. But Kyle is a changed man, one both physically and spiritually, and now he has to find a way to prove to Niki that the past is really in the past.

In the newest novel from Karen Baney, Nickels, is her first contemporary fiction about second chances and seeing what God's plan is for us in life instead of what we perceive it's all about. I received this wonderful eBook compliments of Karen Baney and was more than delighted with this wonderfully, well-written story of dealing with the loss of loved ones and finally finding a way to move forward. The journey isn't an easy one but teaches us the value of God's unconditional love for us and the meaning of having friends along the way. I rate this book a full 5 out of 5 stars and am so excited to be able to share this review with my readers. This is one you won't want to miss out on. Well done again Karen!

It's hard to trust. I was with Niki at every turn. It was especially good to read about the friends who saw her through the most difficult times in her life; the loss of her parents; the tragic death of her brother. But then, Niki rides the rollercoaster of emotions when someone from high school comes back into her life, in a way completely unexpected. Your heart will be warmed by what follows from there. There are many lessons about forgiving and accepting someone else's forgiveness. Well worth reading. The book is so heartwarming.

5.0 out of 5 stars then Kyle enters and I enjoyed the interaction between the two of them

I could not put this down, probably the hopeless romantic inside of me, but once I became invested in the two main characters I had to know that things worked out. I wasn't sure what to think of Niki in the beginning but as I got to know her more I felt drawn to her, then Kyle enters and I enjoyed the interaction between the two of them. The quips back and forth between them were great. I liked how Kyle tried to draw Niki out of her shell without being pushy about it, he was patient when he needed to be. I liked how the characters around Niki not only told her about God's love, but also showed it in their actions. The author does a great job a taking a very technical job and writing it in a way that those not involved in the field can understand it. I would read more from this author. I enjoyed the setting of Arizona, as I am currently planning a trip there, it was fun to read a bit about the area.

This is a clean Christian romance that stands alone. I wasn't sure I would like it at first because I'm not into computers or code but I absolutely loved this book! It drew me in from the start and kept my attention throughout the whole book. I loved it. I will definitely seek out more books from this author. I read it all in one sitting.
