Frozen in Fairyland (More in Heaven and Earth) Kindle Edition
Sophia Edwards has spent her entire life trying to forget her fall into fairyland as a child. Between being chased and terrorized, her memories of all she went through, as well as the images of the witches frozen by an evil queen, won’t leave her nightmares.
But now as an adult, after years spent failing at every job available at the Magical Council, powerful sorcerer and Council administrator, Tillie, has recruited her for a brand new role as an investigator. Even more terrifyingly, Sophia will be partnered with the famous, and much too handsome, Jackson Allan Poe.
Not helping her fears, Jackson is no more certain about their new partnership than Sophia is. After years of having odd rumors told about his adventures (“Jackson took on an undead army with only a singing spell and a basket of mints! Jackson rescued the leprechauns’ princess with nothing but a rhyming madness spell and a smile!”), he feels far too old to take on a complete newbie, especially since he’s still in mourning for his last partner.
But Tillie’s not a woman to be denied, and nothing about this mission will be what they expect--because an evil queen is calling Sophia again, and this time she won’t stop till she has her soul.
With the help of an odd band of companions, including a friendly dragon, an elven lieutenant in the Fairy Watch, a three-eyed fairy cat, several unicorns, and a talking raccoon, can they take on the evil queen to rescue the kidnapped mundanes, save the frozen witches, and keep Sophia from being pulled back into fairyland toward a terrifying, and fatal, fate?
Frozen in Fairyland is a perfect introduction to the More in Heaven and Earth universe. Continuing readers will delight in visits from a few old friends, while new readers can easily enjoy the loads of quirky humor, romance, and suspense of this fun contemporary fantasy, complete with a trip into fairyland.
On a Katherine Gilbert wackiness scale of 1-to-10 sarcastic talking cats*, this one is a 7.
*Warning: Not all stories contain talking cats. Wackiness may take other forms.
The More in Heaven and Earth series is all set in the same magical universe filled with angels, witches, werewolves, demons, vampires, ghosts, and many other supernatural creatures. These intriguing tales can be read in any order or as stand-alones and will introduce the reader to a variety of fascinating characters throughout the many unique locales of this exciting world.

Don’t Know Which Book to Start With? Try These Suggested Reading Orders!
The books in the More in Heaven and Earth series are stand-alones and are designed to be read in any order you choose. Still, I’ve had several requests for a suggested reading order. This is not always easy to give, but here are a few suggestions:
If you want to read everything, here's the order of events: Unearthly Remains, Protecting the Dead, Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic, Cursed in White, A Wild Conversion, Children of the Gods, Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships, Pride, Prejudice & Penguins, Postcards from Another World, Shadows from Another Life, The Spectral Circus, The Eternal Hunt, Witches, Werewolves & Wombats, Frozen in Fairyland.
Books which directly build on each other:
- Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic, Sorcerers, Spirits, and Ships, and Shadows from Another Life
- Cursed in White and Children of the Gods
- Pride, Prejudice & Penguins, The Eternal Hunt, and Witches, Werewolves & Wombats
- Postcards from Another World, Shadows from Another Life, The Spectral Circus, and Witches, Werewolves & Wombats
Books Which Introduce Characters Who Will Go On to Appear Many Times: Unearthly Remains (introduces Supernatural Oversight), Protecting the Dead (introduces The Lady), Moonlight, Magnolias, and Magic (introduces The Magical Council)
If you'd like to read them in order, you can have fun as characters return again, and the world grows larger. If you'd like to start where you please, you won't be lost and can go back to other books as prequels. Wander into this world as you wish; read in the order which appeals to you, and enjoy.
Also, if you’ve read one of the books and want to see some of the characters again, here are some charts where you can track where to find their other appearances:

About the author

Katherine Gilbert was born at house number 1313 and then transplanted to a crumbling antebellum ruin so gothic that The Munsters would have run from it. She has since gained several ridiculously-impractical degrees in English, Religious Studies, and Women's Studies. She now teaches at a South Carolina community college, where all her students think, correctly, that she is very, very strange, indeed. - Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2025OMG what a fun read that was totally different than anything I have read in a very long time! And there is a three eyed purple kitty in the story. It was the cover that pulled me in.
The characters were well suited for their roles. Even the parts that seemed a bit odd when you read them fell into place as the story moved forward.
I have a number of the books in this series but this is the first one I have read. Clearly I was missing out on a great author and series.
There is no cliffhanger ending, I so appreciate that.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2025Frozen in Fairyland is a perfect introduction to the More in Heaven and Earth universe. If you have had the opportunity to read other novels by Katherine Gilbert you will find some old friends in this series. If you are new to the works of Gilbert you will be delighted to discover lots of quirky humor, romance, and suspense all of this wrapped in fun contemporary fantasy, all of this wrapped in a trip into fairyland.
All of this includes t the help of an unusable band of companions. Among this groups will find a friendly dragon, an elven lieutenant in the Fairy Watch, a three-eyed fairy cat, several unicorns, and no less a talking raccoon. The question is can they take on the evil queen and rescue the kidnapped mundanes. The story continues with joy and finesse. Can they save the frozen witches, and keep Sophia from being pulled back into fairyland trapping her in a terrifying, and fatal, fate?
I received this novel as a gift the author with no request of providing this review.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2025I don’t think there’s much missing from this Romantasy tale. There’s a bit of everything from goblins and imps to purple three-eyed cats and talking racoons. However, this wouldn’t be a Romantasy without love and there is plenty of that. Really, there’s no way anyone cannot simply adore the over-the-top spells, curses and even the “fairy cat naming ceremony” that they hold for the purple three-eyed cat. There is just so much humor in this story that I was laughing out loud more often than not. However, there was a lot of growth in Sophia’s character as the story progressed. I cannot recommend anything Katherine Gilbert has written highly enough!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025This book is part of the More in Heaven and Earth series. This s a fun and “wacky” fantasy romance. This book has strong, well-developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. Great characters that make the story come alive. Pain and passion radiate from them. The plot draws you in so that you can’t put the book down because you need to know what will happen next. This review is based on an early review copy I was sent by the publisher, but this didn't affect the content of my review that I am voluntarily providing
