Stigma Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

In the United Kingdom, glowing red letters are appearing above the heads of some of the population.

In a tense and gripping thriller, Stigma takes readers on a chilling journey through a United Kingdom gripped by fear and uncertainty. Glowing red letters hover ominously above the heads of select individuals, marking them in ways that society can’t ignore.

For Orville, the prospect of his secret being revealed forces him to flee the only home he’s ever known. Meanwhile, ruthless gang member Michael sees a chance to use the letters to take control, finally getting the power he craves.

Amidst the turmoil, Prime Minister Samantha Graveson finds herself cornered by an electorate that demands answers she cannot provide. Father Steven, a priest, on the verge of leaving the church, grapples with the appearance of the letters. If this is divine intervention, why punish the innocent?

As the letters spread, they ignite a nationwide crisis, leading many to question everything they thought they knew about their family and friends.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Every good novel needs a hook. And Stigma by Mark P. Haskins has a wonderful hook - glowing red letters begin hovering over individuals, marking them. But why? I love that! What follows is a tense, suspense-filled drama/thriller which skips between characters and settings all over the UK.There were a number of elements to this novel I particularly enjoyed. Firstly, the writing style is highly accessible with short chapters, and the pacing is excellent. As a result, there's never a dull moment, and the plot, although complex in parts, is understandable and never frustrating. Secondly, it's all very thought-provoking, the characters wanting to know and often debating this 'stigma' and why it's there. Is it the work of God? Is it a punishment? And thirdly, although there is a large cast of characters, this first-time author works hard to develop them; in fact, he seems determined that the reader will know them as thoroughly as possible.I'm very happy to recommend this book to fans of thrillers and character focused dramas. I think most readers will enjoy trying to work out what the letters represent, and they'll thoroughly enjoy the fast pacing. If you enjoy gritty dramas with a hint of the supernatural, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping sci-fi plot, great read!

Second read of the year and what a great one at that! There are multiple storylines happening simultaneously, but because of how the chapters are named and arranged, it was super easy to follow all the storylines. The plot makes one think about society and morality, and if such a thing were to happen in real life, what would you do!
The way the story followed, it was almost like watching a thriller/sci-fi mini series, rooting (or not rooting) for all the different characters.
Few grammar mistakes here and there, but hopefully they will be removed in future drafts of the book.
Definitely left me a happy reader!

A very original story. A number of characters affected in different ways by the stigmas keeping the reader hooked. I agree with other reviewers that it would make a great TV series or film. Thoroughly recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping story, making morality a questionable theme throughout. The characters are all believable and attention to detail excellent. A page turner for me, I didn’t want it to end!
