Back Country (Country Duet Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 204 ratings

The gripping conclusion of Hunter and Dave's story.

There's only one place that has the power to heal Hunter Yates. Sweetwater Ranch. His sophomore year of college was a wild adventure.

He found everything and lost it all in the blink of an eye. With Dave in decent shape for the moment, Hunter travels home for the summer. It's just what he needs. Time to clear his mind.

He should feel settled, fulfilled, and at peace now that he's home on the Ranch. But he doesn't. The dull ache in his chest too overwhelming to ignore. The natural high he always experiences while on horseback no longer exists. The grass no longer green in his eyes. The world is just that-the world.

His drive and determination have vanished. Teale Wickett destroyed him.

The thing is life goes on one meaningless day at a time. Timing has never been on his side and this time there will be no turning back this time. Dave's health declines, leaving Hunter lost.

Will his country roots be enough to keep him grounded?

The heartwarming conclusion to Wild Country. (You really do need to read the first book before this one.) If you haven't already, after reading this duet, you will most definitely want to get yourself a country boy like Hunter. :) These books are partially about the romance and partially about an unusual and unlikely friendship. It's full of all the feels. There are a few humorous moments, and a few panty-melting ones as well! ;) But the one element that runs through it in it's entirety are the heartfelt emotions. It's such a sweet story. I know it's based on a true story, and that may be the reason why, but my only complaint is that it skipped over some events that I would have enjoyed knowing about. Such as (SPOILER ALERT) the proposal. Like the first book, this one reads pretty quickly. It isn't full of sex, and only some mild language, so I would say it is safe for teens and up. A great read if you want something with a little more heart! =)

when I finished Back Country, the second book in the Country Duet series by HJ Bellus, I was profoundly moved to know that people like Luke really can be found in this world we live in. So much bitterness and violence seems to dominate our news so how refreshing to read the true story of a genuinely good person, Luke, and the ill grouchy man, Dave, who brought out these qualities in him. The writing talent of HJ Bellus highlighted the development of their relationship and I will freely admit I had tears in my eyes when I read that Dave insisted that Luke be called his son.
Ever the romantic, I was very pleased to see the healing between Teal and Luke. I love a soulmate theme, and again, Ms. Bellus does it so very well.
Finally, just to keep some balance there was some great humor -- think Dave with a cell phone -- plus a reminder that Luke really was a young man when he made the less than brilliant decision to ride his motorcycle alone in the mountains. For me these parts of the book made both Dave and Luke even more human.
Back Country is not a stand alone. Please read Wild Country first.

Where to even start. I am glad that when I got book 1 I waited until I had them both to read back to back. My heart was broken for Hunter at the end of book 1 and the start of this book. Dave what can I say about a man who know's what he wants and gets it. To be a mentor to a person and for Hunter to never walk away from him. Baker is such a little cutie, she is a spit fire that is for sure. I am glad we all learned the truth about everything. I was happy with the whole book. I will say there was a couple laugh out load moments. Thank you for a great story

As I sit here and write my review I'm writing it through tears. This book wrapped up a story that I fell in love with. Dave was a hoot, and I knew I'd love him to pieces. Hunter is a strong man with a huge part and more people in this world needs to have a heart like that. Heidi did a phenomenal job writing Hunter and Dave's story. I'd give more stars if I could, but we all know how Amazon works.

This duet (Wild Country & Back Country) is thought provoking. I absolutely loved it. It is so nice to know there are such good people in the world.
This is a true story of a remarkable young man & his relationship with a very difficult old man. I highly recommend reading it. There is some profanity and IMO mild sexual scenes. I hate to see the reviews of people bashing this wonderful duet of books because they were offended. It is a heartfelt story that I highly recommend.

This is an amazing story. Filled with heart and truth. I would have given it five stars if not for so many typos. A line editor makes a big difference. You're too good a writer not to use one.

I loved both books after it totally pissed me off with a cliffhanger I didn't initially expect. You fall for the first book and then have to BUY the second in order to find out the rest the story. I was angry enough that it took me a while before I left my GLOWING recommendation. H J Bellus, please don't do that to me again or I might have to start avoiding your books.

Beautifully written, Hunter was an amazing young man, but Dave had me laughing and had me tearing up, it was great reading a book about kindness, love, respect, patients. A tonne of patients the world would be a better place if more of us were like Hunter taking time to help someone less fortunate even when they are rude and crude at times, the story was written so well I felt every emotion. Congrats on a brilliant story. 💖
