Carl Alan Smith was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His father is Clarence H. Smith, a 29 year retired Army Master Sergeant. After the death of his mother, Willie Mae Alan, Carl and his sister Marie and little brother Michael resettled in Columbus, Georgia. before moving to Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

He graduated from Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tennessee in 1971. Carl worked at a variety of different jobs before deciding to attend Columbus College in Columbus , Georgia. It was here I began writing my first short story, 312 6th Street.

In 1972, Carl was one of the last generation of young adults during the Nixon era eligible for the draft.

In 1973 at the age of 19, he enlisted into the United States Air Force as an Administration Specialists. After completing Technical School, Carl received his first assignment to Clark Air Base, Philippines where he lived from 3 years, 3 month and 17 days. It is here where he continued to pursue his interest in writing.

It was also at this point in Carl's military career that he mastered the nuances of creative writing which enabled him to develop his craft.

Carl's life-long goal was to write short stories and eventually have them published. He has been writing unpublished, challenging short stories since junior high school. His educational background in Administration and Business have provided him a broad base from which to approach many topics.

In October 1995, Carl retired from the United States Air Force. He settled in Arizona where he attended the University of Phoenix pursuing a degree in Business while continuing to produce some of his greatest essays, letters and short stories.

Carl married Eula Ann Baldwin in 1974. They have a daughter, April

Tenee Smith. Carl and Eula reside in Surprise Arizona.
