CC Sullivan Interview On 19, Mar 2021

"A writer from Toronto, Canada, CC Sullivan writes in the fantasy, women's fiction, and romance genres. She spent all of her childhood summers in the northern part of Provence. Sullivan's debut novel, Masters of the Elements transports the reader through time, with the detailed descriptive narrative. She also enjoys reading books from all genres, painting, and traveling in her spare time."
What is a childhood memory that makes you smile?

I spent all of my childhood summers in the northern part of Provence (France), so my childhood memories of running through fields of lavender always make me smile.

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?

I read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe one summer and coincidentally had a cupboard much like the one described in the book. I used to imagine climbing into it and crossing over to other worlds.

As a teenager, what were you obsessed with?

Hmmm... boys, the beach, music, dancing, travelling, drawing, painting, hanging with friends... among other things.

What got you interested in the fantasy genre?

As above, possibly reading L, W, and W. However, I like other genres as well. Masters of the Elements falls into the time travel portal fantasy because of its storyline, not necessarily because I love writing fantasy.

What inspired the plot of your book, Masters of the Elements?

A couple of things: I visited Florence when I was in my early twenties and never forgot my short weekend there. Later, when I returned to upgrade my Communications and Design diploma to a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, I studied the history of the Renaissance, and it inspired me to write the story which blossomed while I daydreamed about the past.

What challenges did you face while designing the book, Your Personal Tarot Journal?

I honestly did not have any challenges designing it, but if I had to pick an element, it would be the amount of writing space available in the journal.

What is the best writing tip you ever received and who gave it to you?

I recently read Ray Bradbury's Zen in the Art of Writing, and everything he wrote in that book about writing was inspiring. One of my favourite quotes is:

"He/She must ask himself/herself, 'What do I really think of the world, what do I love, fear, hate?' and begin to pour this on paper." -- Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing.

How is tarot reading useful?

Tarot reading is useful on so many levels, but I find it most inspiring when learning about one's self—the light and the shadows of our inner world. Those insights are life changing.

As a published fiction writer, what are some of the most touching reader/ fan interactions you've had?

The reactions which my readers have had to my story are heart warming. One of my readers has called my book, her "comfort" book. What's not to love about that?

What is the hardest part when you start drawing?

Deciding which drawing tool I want to use. :-)

What is some good advice and tips for traveling alone?

Be as careful as when you are at home. Don't let your guard down and keep your eyes open, but enjoy yourself.

If you were to be a world famous painting, which painting would you be?

Oh, this is a difficult question; there are so many. My choice is not a painting but a sculpture: The Kiss by Auguste Rodin.

Which is the next book that you are writing? When is it due for release?

I'm writing the second book of the Elements series, Warriors of the Elements, and I'm hoping to have it due for release in November.

How has your experience with AllAuthor been?
