About A Secondary English Teacher that loves to read (and has done from a young age). Reading is used as a source of escapism and to experience things through others. I love to read and I am passionate about encouraging others to have a love for reading (especially my own children and the children that I teach).

I will read most genres of books, but like most, I have my usual ‘go to’ ones. I am passionate about staying up to date with YA fiction, so that I can give recommendations to my students. I also enjoy my students recommending books to me. One of my fondest memories was when I was teaching a year 9 class and I saw one of the boys crying. When I went over, I noticed that he was reading a book on his lap. I didn’t have the heart to tell him off for not doing the work set. I asked if he was okay and he said , “Miss, you’ve got to read this book!” (It was ‘All the Bright Places’) So, that weekend, that’s what I did...I went and bought it, read it and spoke to him at length about it!

To share my love of reading, I post regularly on my Instagram page and I am beginning to build up my following. I interact with both fellow bloggers, discussing their current reads and seeking out books to read next, as well as connecting with the authors of the book that I have read or am looking to check out.

I am also a member of at least 5 different book groups on Facebook where we recommend and review books. In one of the groups, we also swap books like for like. It’s a dangerous hobby, as your wish list can become obscene, but it’s worth it.

I am currently participating in the reading challenge on Goodreads and I am currently on book 26 of the year. I love to share my reviews of Netgalley books, as well as books/ebooks that I have purchased.

In addition to this, I participate in a work's online book club, where I talk with fellow professionals (on Microsoft Teams) to discuss books that we are reading. My colleagues and I are due to start reading, ‘The Choice’ by Claire Wade, having just finished ‘The Caretakers’ by Eliza Maxwell. I thoroughly enjoy reading books chosen by others, as it takes me out of my comfort zone.

Talking about books is something that I am deeply passionate about and I thrive on the interactions with others, especially when you can connect over a book that you have a mutual love and appreciation for.

With regards to audiobooks, they’re not something that I’ve tried before, but I’m not opposed to the idea. I’ve heard lots of great things about them and I would really like to give them a go. I heard they’re even better when it’s the author that reads them. I think they’d be good for when I’m driving or doing the housework.; I hate having to stop reading to do something mundane. I hope that this will be a new way to bring books to life!
