BIOGRAPHY

Award-winning author Debby Grahl writes contemporary romance with elements of suspense -- and sometimes ghosts or witches. She lives on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with her husband, David. Besides writing, she enjoys biking, walking on the beach, and a glass of wine at sunset. Her favorite places to visit are New Orleans, New York City, Captiva Island in Florida, the Cotswolds of England, and her home state of Michigan. She is a history buff who also enjoys reading murder mysteries, time travel, and, of course, romance. Visually impaired since childhood by Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), she uses screen-reading software to research and write her books. Her latest book, Mountain Blaze, was released November 2, 2020. She is working on Island Heat, the second book in her Carolina series. Her other books are His Magic Touch, Decorated to Death, Rue Toulouse, and The Silver Crescent. Debby also has stories in several anthologies.

Do you have a simple childhood memory that you could never forget?

This would have to be the day my dad took the training wheels off my bike. He ran beside me as I peddled telling him not to let go. Little did I know he already had and I was riding on my own.

Do you enjoy biking more on flat terrain or where there are hills?

Definitely flat terrain. I like riding along enjoying my surroundings.

What is a childhood ambition that you had?

I always wanted to be an airline flight attendant. I thought this would be a great way to see the world.

Are you fond of reading romance novels?

Yes! I enjoy historical, paranormal and contemporary romance.

What is the significance of the title of your book, Mountain Blaze?

The book takes place in the mountains outside of Asheville NC. When I was researching the book, there was an incredible sunset, a blaze of colors.

Who inspired the character of the demonic witch, Adam Montief?

This character is from His Magic Touch, not Mountain Blaze.

How many books do you plan to write in The Carolina Series?

I plan on writing four books. Island Heat, the second in the series will be released on May 1st.

What do the adjectives "award-winning" and "prestigious" mean to you?

Any time Award Winning and Prestigious are used to describe me and my writing, is thrilling Knowing readers enjoy my stories that much.

What are some of the kinds of conflicts you can use when writing a romance novel?

A couple of examples would be, different personality traits, leary of another relationship, class differences, wealthy-poor.

What’s the typical structure and plot for a romance novel?

This would be boy meets girl. There’s either an instant attraction, or an instant personality clash. The plot must keep bringing the two together until they finally solve their differences.

How likely is it to become an author without a literature degree?

I don’t have a degree, so it can be done.

The readers are eagerly waiting for the sequel to "Mountain Blaze"? When can we expect the release of the same?

Island Heat will be released on May 1st.

When did you join AllAuthor and what are your opinions about the website so far?
