      • I've always written in one capacity or another for as long as I can remember - and as I'm now 51-years old, it's been a while. I was always a voracious reader who was already reading books like Bronte's Wuthering Heights and Dickens, Great Expectations by the time I was 7-years old. If I didn't have a book in my hand, I had a pen, rewriting the stories I'd read to alter them to my own particular tastes. I love writing and reading for the same reasons, pure escapism, to be transported to other places and times if only for a short time. Sometimes the voices in my head would be so loud I had to write it down just to get peace. I stopped writing when I had my children as not so much free time when they were young, but I continued to read books. I'd also tell my children stories I made up on the spot, or alter the ones I was reading from - I guess I couldn't quite let go of my writing bug. My altering stories confused the hell out of my children though once they'd learned to read themselves - nothing matched what I'd been reading to them. I took up writing again about 18-year ago when I became ill. At one point my memory was so badly affected, I couldn't even remember by own address; to a house I'd played in as a child and had lived in for over 10-years as an adult. When I could not longer even read to escape the pain and confusion due to being unable to retain any of the information or even recognise certain words. Well, lets just say, between losing most of my ability to walk and not being able to read it was a dark time for me. At that point I decided to treat reading and writing as an exercise, something I had to relearn. I'd learned how to walk on my own two feet again - even though I don't have full feeling - so decided I'd retrain my brain also. I began writing again, I would write anything that came to mind. Yes, it was a slog with my word recollection issues and no, I certainly didn't always get it right, but I persevered. I published my first book 4-years ago next month and haven't stopped since. I don't write every day as my illness doesn't always allow it, but I do write as often as it does allow. So now, even on those days when I can no longer get out of the house, I can still escape either into a page or onto a page...
